The True Start - Part 1

There was no System announcement this time, but that was unmistakably at least a derivative of the System's voice. It was deeper and far more powerful, akin to the voice that Vol had heard when he'd slain the Hobgoblin, at the System's asking. No, now, it was greater than even that. It rumbled in his ears, matching the thunder that he'd heard overhead.

He flinched. A foreign emotion filled him. His axe was up before he knew what he was doing, and metal rang out against metal.

Chapter 33 – The True Start

Fear gave Vol the energy he needed to save his own life, now that anger had run out. Not fear of death. Some part of him would have been content with the tranquillity that death promised.

No, his was the fear of the voice that radiated through his ears.

"WEAK? DO YOU KNOW WEAKNESS, FOOLISH MORTAL? DO YOU JUDGE ALL THAT YOU SEE WITH YOUR EYES? DO BELIEVE ALL THAT THE OTHER FOOLS SPEAK?"
