Those weren't empty words. Ruddock was always a man of action. In delivering them, he was already set towards his next attack. He put the full force of his Command into his trusty horse and initiated it to a sudden acceleration, even quicker than the likes that Vol could achieve on foot, with his impressive agility.

Both horse and horseman were above him in a second. Whatever retort he might have sent was replaced by the crushing need to stay alive. A glaive descended on him. One filled with both strength, and with will. As though Ruddock had intended to teach him that very lesson, Vol could feel the difference in the blow.

He put his hammer up to defend against the blow, but it was far from quick enough. Ruddock wielded the initiative as expertly as he did his glaive. He thrived when he was in the driver's seat of combat.
