They were responding to the goblin attack with far more force than was necessary, and rightly so.
Already they were parading the head of the first goblin around – a silly thing. Goblins were dangerous – yes, to farmers they were as dangerous as bears when encountered alone, and when they were found in packs, only the soldiers could deal with them. But they were also a staple part of life, a rather common occurrence, not something for a whole town to unite against.
