Hunter

The first time I saw her was when she was running in the woods. She looked breath takingly beautiful. I would have kept looking at her if I never noticed someone chasing her. Usually I wouldn't care for things like this, but I couldn't leave her alone.

So I swooped down from the tree branch I was crouching on. I fell onto my hind legs behind the man chasing her. I grabbed the man and snapped his neck. He was dirty and nasty which means his blood was tainted. Blood that had been tainted didn't taste so good so it wasn't much of a loss. But I did enjoy killing him nonetheless, because I did it to keep her safe. After I killed that man I climbed back up the tree as high as I could and started following her every move. Right now she was crouched under a hut holding her knees and crying.

I automatically felt her pain as if it were mine alone. I wanted so badly to just go down there and hold her, but the crying session was done as fast as it came. She then stood up and walked further into the town before camping out in a little allyway. She crouched down with her head low hugging her knees as she fell asleep. I didn't want to leave her but I also didn't want her to be cold out in the open. So I went back to my house which was a mansion of some sort.

I made sure no one saw me as I jumped to my window to enter my room. I grabbed my cover from my bed and left to go back to her. When I came back to the allyway she was laying on her side and that's when I saw her long beautiful red hair. I have never seen anything like it before. I swooped down from a tree and gently placed my cover over her shrivering body. Then I jumped into a tree just above her and watched over her body.

I woke up to her scent that smelled like sweet flowers. I felt her fear and then hunger. I watched her face while she was contemplating over something. Then I watched as everyone including her watched some commotion go down. When everyone's attention were on them though, I saw her reaching for some bread. I could have helped keep the owner from noticing her but I wanted to see what she would do. If she got caught then I would help her. But she out ran the owner and slipped away into a different allyway.

I smelt the danger she was in before she even knew she was in danger. I watched as these two girls grabbed her. I saw one chick punch her in the face and that's all it took for me to intervene. I felt so angry I wanted to rip them apart, but there were people around and I definetly didn't want to scare her. As one girl was dragging her away I jumped down from a tree and grabbed her from the girls hands.

"Leave if you know what's best for you." I said in a deep voice, I had no problem showing my fangs to them to get my point across. I watched as the two girls ran away in fear. I looked down at her to see blood running down her mouth from her nose.

I made sure I covered her hair with her hood before I walked away with her in my arms. At this point she was unconcious. Not having anywhere else to take her, I took her to my house. Again I made sure no one saw me as I sped through the house and into my room. I placed her gently onto my bed and rushed to the bathroom to get a warm wet wash cloth. I rushed over to her afterwards and washed the blood off of her.

After the blood was gone, I tipped her head up a little to stop the blood completely. Yes her blood smelled sweet, a little too sweet. And yes I wanted to taste it, but I live with a bunch of other vampires. Her safety was more important than my desire. I had to make sure no one around me smelt her intoxicating blood.

Afterwards I sat down in a chair with my sleeves rolled up my forearms, as I watched her sleep. I then fell asleep as well. I woke up hours later to her moving around in bed. Shit she's waking up. How the hell am I going to explain this without her freaking out.

I thought to myself. She then wakes up and looks around the room. I felt her heart speed up till her eyes rested on mine. She then tried to scream but I was in her face and covering her mouth to stiffle the screams. She started kicking, scratching and punching me. None of it hurt of course but damn she's a fighter. I held her down tighter never moving my hand from her mouth.

"Shh, its ok. I'm not going to hurt you. I saved you earlier from those two girls in the allyway, remember?" I say really fast. I watched as she remembered the events earlier. She calmed down a little but her heart was still beating fast. I lifted myself off of her and took my hand from her mouth and backed up a little.

"Hi, my name is Hunter. What is your name?" I asked. She just looked me over before answering me.

"Scarlet." Is all she said clearly not wanting to say anything more than that.

"Where were you coming from when you was running in the woods?" I asked and I regretted asking that question as soon as the words left my mouth. Her heart started to speed up again and I saw the terror in her eyes. Shit, damn, I scared her again. I can be such a dumbass sometimes.

"You was following me?" She asked while getting off the bed and backing up to the window. I could hear people from outside my window and I knew that if she got any closer they would see her hair.

"I was already in the woods when I saw you running from that guy." I say to calm her down and to stop her from going any further to the window. She didn't though, she made it to the window and I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her into my chest.

"Don't freak out. I told you I won't hurt you. You can trust me, but you can't go near that window." I said while giving her a hint by looking at her hair. I saw her pull her hand out of my hand to place it over her head. Once she realized her hood wasn't covering her hair she quickly pulled it back over her head. I wanted to grab her hand again to hold it, but thought better of it.

"Thank you for saving me earlier, but I have to go." She said while moving away from me and towards my room door. She didn't get far though, because one of her knees gave out and she fell. I caught her fall before it made a thump sound and someone from below heard it.

"You lost quite a bit of blood earlier and you haven't eaten or drank anything either." I said while picking her up bridle style and placed her back on my bed to lay down. She tried to get up but I made her lay back down.

"I'll go downstairs to get you something to eat and something to drink as well. Just stay up here and don't go near the window." I say, pleading with her to do exactly what I told her with my eyes before leaving the room. I walked down stairs and into the kitchen to put something together for her. As I was done making Scarlet a sandwich I felt hands go around my torso and slide down further south. I knew exactly who it was.

I moved her hand off of me, turned around, and stepped away from her. She then gave me a angry glare.

"What's up Juliana?" I say not sounding interested at all. She caught on and started to pout to try to win me over. It didn't work though and she gave me an angry glare again.

"Why do you have a sandwich?" Juliana asked looking confused.

"I just feel like eating human food right now."

"You never eat human food."

"Well I am today." I say while grabbing a drink. I walked past her to go back upstairs not wanting to keep Scarlet waiting. As I was passing Juliana she grabbed my arms to stop me.

"I smell a human here and on you."

"I don't know what you are talking about." I say while moving my arm from her grasp and walked away. I walked back into the room and thank God she was still laying in my bed.

"Here eat this, it should make you feel better. We have to leave afterwards as well." I said. Scarlet gave me a confused look, but then she looked at the sandwich and started to eat it.

When she finished her food and drank the water I gave her we left out of my window. I had her around in front of me while legs were around my waist as I jumped from tree to tree till we were far enough away from my house. And trust me it wasn't easy. We faught about the fact she had hold onto me till I heard Juliana coming up the stairs. So I grabbed scarlet, placed her around my waist, and jumped to the tree that was closest to my room.

We made it back into town. We have been walking in circles for thirty minutes now.

"Do you know where you are going?" I asked while I stopped walking.

"Yes." She lied and I knew she was lying because every time she does her heart speeds up.

"Then tell me." I watched as her face turned red, as red as her hair.

"Why don't you just leave." She asked me.

"I can't do that."

"Why not?" she asked while turning to face me. She tried to pin me with her orange eyes I guess to be intemidating, but it didn't work on me. I smiled at her and saw how frustrating she was getting.

"Listen I don't need you to follow me around, I'm okay on my own." I snorted at that statement. I saw her get into more trouble than I do in one day, and she really wanted to stand here and tell me she will be okay on her own.

"Yea you proved it to last night and today. Just face it you need me, I already saved you twice. You might as well Just make me your knight." I say while smiling, but then I saw how nervous she became after I said the word knight. I found that strange but brushed it off.

"I don't need a knight. Just leave me alone."

"I can't do that."

"Why not!"

"Because you will slip up and get into trouble again."

"I won't, now leave." She said while walking away. I followed her though, it'll be stupid of me to leave her alone. Ten minutes of knowing I was following her, she then broke out into a run. I snickered because this is such a pain in the ass. I ran after her in human speed which was more annoying. I rather use my vampric speed but I can't.

I can't risk her knowing what I am yet. Just as I was catching up to her, someone grabbed her. Shit, not again. I say feeling even more annoyed. I sniffed around not noticeably of course. I needed to catch her scent. Once I caught her scent though I used my vampric speed to find her. Which I did. I found her being dragged onto a boat. Curse her damn hair. I whispered to myself. I snuck up on the guy who had her and punched him in the face. Blood instantly shot from his nose.

"I'll be right back. Go over there and hide behind a tree. And cover your damn hair." I growled out. I took the guy and ran to the forest on the opposite side of where I told her to hide at. Once I was sure she didn't follow and we were in fact alone. I grabbed the man by his throat and sunk my teeth into his neck. I was beyond annoyed and angry, I sucked his life away. When I was done I let his lifeless body fall to the ground. I wiped my mouth so there wasn't blood on it and started to look for Scarlet. I usually don't kill my victims but he had it coming.

I made it to the spot I told her to hide at just to find it empty. I cursed even more feeling even more angry. I inhaled the air to find her scent. She was just a little ways ahead. I used my speed till I reached her. I spun her around and trapped her against a tree.

"What part of hide behind that tree didn't you understand?" I said in a loud growl. I watched her face go from angry to fear in an instant.

"Your eyes." Is all she said. Shit. I said to myself. Without letting go of her I turned my face away from her to get control over myself. Once I felt calm and knew my eyes turned to its natural color , I looked at her again.

"What are you." She asked trying to get away from me. I held her in place though.

"I'm just like you."

"But your eyes."

"I'm just like you. Its no different from your eyes being orange." I lied. She didn't look convinced but she didn't press me about it anymore. I let her go and she started to walk away while covering her hair with her hood. I followed behind her and we walked like this for a while in silence.
