"I-I don't know anything," Jun stuttered, stepping back from them.
"That's right. I called everyone here not to throw accusations, but so we could leave," Kaneda said. His steely tone and a hand on Masanori's shoulder finally made the man step back and unclench his fists.
"I want… I want to help you find Emiko-san. Or what h-happened with her," Jun said. "Maybe she's still alive, just escaped s-somewhere."
It was doubtful. More likely she died and her corpse was carried away to be eaten. But no one wanted to speak against that shred of hope.
"You better hope she is!" Masanori snarled before turning and storming away. "Gather your things quickly!"
It didn't take more than ten minutes for everyone to pack up. They were ready for something like that—but also, not quite. The rangers' faces were as dark as the night outside, lit only by the fat moon and the bright stars.
