The first thing that came to his mind was how similar she looked to Alice. The way she talked and even how she looked was uncomfortably close.
"If you don't answer me I'll have to take you in forcefully."
Snapping back to reality, the girl was just inches from his face.
"How about you back up first."
She hadn't realized that she had gotten so close to his face. Backing off with flushed cheeks, she continued to investigate the suspicious boy.
"Why aren't you in class?"
"I have the day off."
"Then let me see your ID."
"ID?"
"The keycard for your room not only acts as a key to your room but also as ID, didn't they tell you this at orientation?"
Pulling out his keycard, he gave it over to her. Taking it from his hand, she pulled out a device and began scanning the keycard.
"Let's see here. Jayce Price, 17 years old, human, oh here's the good part. Rank C, First Stage?"
She looked at it again to make sure she wasn't mistaken, but the device still said Rank C.
"You're rank is the same as mine." She said with a happy tone. "Which Guild are you from?"
"Rank? Guild?" Jayce had a confused expression as he wasn't familiar with any of these terms.
"Wait, I heard we had a transfer student coming tomorrow. Don't tell me you're him." She said with a worried tone as she gave him back his keycard.
Still being completely confused, Jayce decided to tell her what he did know so she would leave him alone.
"I don't know what you're saying but I just arrived today."
"And they didn't tell you anything."
"No."
Facepalming herself, she decided if they weren't going to tell him anything she would have to do it.
"Follow me, we can head to the library and I can tell you what you need to know."
Seeing this as his only chance of obtaining information, he had no reason to refuse. Following her into the Academic building, they headed up to the second floor. The inside had the same design Greeks had with pearly white pillars and marble floors.
Arriving at a door, she opened it to reveal a gigantic library with many floors. Just like his room, it was much bigger on the inside than on the outside.
Taking a seat at a table, a flying teapot and cups flew over to them and poured tea into two cups before landing in front of him.
Drinking a sip of tea, she started to explain the situation he was in.
"Before we start, tell me what you do know."
"I was told either have my memory wiped or join the Academy."
"Pretty much means you know little to nothing."
Sighing, she took another sip of tea.
"The world is composed of something called mana. Not all humans are born with it but when they are, they are classified as mages. Mages use this mana to create spells, they usually focus on one to two types of spells.
Animals can also be born with mana which evolves them into dangerous beasts but some races such as werewolves and vampires are dangerous in their own right, we call them supernaturals." Hearing that last bit, Jayce's hand that was under the table unconsciously clenched.
"A long time ago these monsters started to threaten the human population as they thought humanity was weak, not knowing of the mages in hiding, to combat this new threat, the mages of that time formed Guilds. These Guilds forced the supernaturals back into their realms."
Peeking with one eye, she could see that he was keeping up so far.
"To train future mages safely and discreetly from the outside world, they invented man-made realms.
"Realms are pockets in reality that can only be entered from certain coordinates, making them extremely hard to enter if you don't know where they are connected to and can be moved at any time."
"Most of the time they form naturally where there is an abundance of mana which supernaturals are drawn to. When supernaturals find a realm, they can populate incredibly fast inside of it, the realm is then known as a dungeon."
Before she could continue, Jayce was confused about one thing.
"What about those people living in the town, are they considered supernaturals too?"
"No, they are called otherworlders but most mages just call them Others. Sometimes when mana gathers, it becomes extremely violent, causing what we call mana storms."
"These mana storms, on rare occasions, connect our worlds to theirs. Others are people who were sucked into those mana storms and ended up here."
"The original owner of this realm felt pity for them and let them settle here. At the start, there were just a few Others but over time they populated, creating the beautiful town you see now."
"There are some mages that despise Others, saying that they don't belong here, some even go as far as to hunt them down." Disgust and anger could be heard in her voice as she took another sip of tea.
"After the supernaturals were forced back into their realms, peace was restored. With this peace mages focused on researching and creating new magic, leading to the discovery of black magic.
"Black magic affects someone's life force or soul, this also extends to creating contracts with demons."
Hearing the word demon, Jayce suddenly became more interested.
"When the major Guilds found out, they instantly banned it and arrested anyone who associated with it."
"But they weren't fast enough before one of them made a contract with a demon, in exchange for thousands of souls, he would be given immense power."
"The demon that was summoned was the Demon King, ruler of all demonkind. Once it was summoned it killed its contractor and opened a door to the demon realm, releasing his army of demons."
"This became to be known as the Demonic War. The war lasted for many centuries with humanity on the losing side, that was until he showed up."
The mage had mastered all types of magic, which was never seen before in the history of magic. Storming the demon realm by himself, he was able to defeat and seal away the Demon King but at the cost of his own life.
"With the biggest threat gone, the major Guilds were able to kill the rest of the demons lingering in the human realm."
"That mage would later be known as Merlin, the strongest magician in history."
