“It’s gonna be hot as hell this summer if it’s already this hot in April.” JD wipes at his forehead as we take batting practice.
“Ain’t that the truth? It was even warm down at the Gulf in February.” I whistle as one of our rookie’s hits one out of the park.
“On your honeymoon” He stretches the word out, hitting me in the shoulder. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell anybody about it, man. Ya know we all woulda been there.”
Many of my teammates have come up to me, saying the same thing since Malone and I got married. To be honest, I didn’t realize they thought so highly of me, but it makes me feel appreciated. Truth is, I wanted to make sure she had no reason to back out. More than anything, I wanted her connected to me, for fear that she’d run again.
“We just wanted to get it done, ya know? We wasted so much time in the first place; we didn’t want to waste anymore.”
