Chapter 6
Are you going somewhere?
"Then get ready to die if that is what you choose!" Leonardo lowered his head and said it coldly.
Paw!! A resounding slap landed on Leonardo's face.
That was his mother.
She had to draw back the moment she heard that disgusting statement being uttered.
Leonardo never knew that she was still hanging around when he made the statement.
He thought she should be in her room already.
"How dare you talk to me like that? I conceived and carried you for nine months, so I decide what is good for you and what is not." She declared and spat on the floor.
Leonardo placed his palms on his chick, focusing a fiery look at his mother without saying a word. He took a step to move out.
"Stay back there!" His mother blocked his way out.
"You don't have any rights whatsoever to walk out on me, Leo. In fact, I want to see you in the upper room, now!" She declared.
Viola stood helplessly, watching mother and son having a misunderstanding.
Viola's life was shattered. Why did Mrs. Vans decide to despise her so much? Did she do something wrong?
These questions revolve through Viola's mind with no one to answer.
She sat down on her bed that night, giving a second thought to all that happened because of her.
She had developed feelings for Leonardo even before he professed love to her. She was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to capture his heart completely.
Little did she know that Leonardo was having irresistible feelings for her as well.
Since then, Leonardo cannot spend a day without creating time for them.
A garden that he rarely visits once in a week became his centre of relaxation because of Viola. He makes sure he stands and supervises her as she works, and when she's done, they'd sit down under the nymn tree on their mat, having good moments.
"I pity that gardener girl, you know. I don't know how foolish she is to think that she has found love."
"You're right, she doesn't know that she's digging her grave with her hands."
Viola was heading towards the mansion when she overheard two of the maids discussing her.
Little did they know that she was approaching from the back.
Immediately she heard that, she decided to hide where they couldn't see her so that she could eavesdrop.
"She thought that Sir Leonardo loved her, if only she knew the class of girls that he has. foolish girl, he'll only use her to warm his bed, and that's all," one of the maids said.
"I hate her with all passion, you know. Look how she's busy throwing herself around him, as if we that have been here didn't notice that a handsome dude was in the house," the other responded.
"Bet me, this relationship would not last. For the past ten years I've worked here, I've never seen Sir Leonardo entangled with one woman up to six months."
"Even if he does, trust me, his mother would never settle for a poor girl like her to be a daughter-in-law. She only needs children of the rich cadres for her son."
"Never mind. It would be like a movie to her when she falls victim to his deceitful love. Until she joined the que of those ladies he had denied knowing them when they claimed to be pregnant for him, then her eyes would clear."
The two maids discussed at length about Viola's relationship with their master, until they were interrupted by a sudden call from Mrs. Vans.
Viola slowly marched back to her room, her heart pounding on the words she heard earlier.
"I need to leave; I need to get myself out of this place immediately. Besides, my mission here is accomplished. My mom's health is restored, and I've repaid the loan." She said to herself and instantly started folding her clothes into her bag.
She had planned to leave the next day, early in the morning before daybreak.
She had explained everything to the gatekeeper and pleaded with him to open the gates and let her out as soon as she knocked on his door.
"I don't have to let anyone know when I'll be leaving." She told herself.
After taking her bath around 4:00 am, closely watching at the tickling of the clock on the wall so that she'll leave once it's 5:30 am, she was tranced out of her sober moments with a knock at the door.
Gripped with fear, she slouched to the door and asked, "Who's there?"
"It's me, Viola."
That was Mrs. Van's voice.
"What did she want from her in this early hour of the day? Shouldn't she be sleeping?
Or could it be that the gatekeeper had related the runaway plans to her?
Vera's thoughts couldn't figure out any possible answers to the questions running through her mind.
"A minute, please," she said softly and hastily took off her clothes, putting back her nightwear on her body.
"Oh, sorry, I woke you up from your sleep." Mrs. Vans said with a smile.
"Isn't this the same woman that told me yesterday that my sight disgusted her? And in less than twenty-four hours, she's smiling at me." Viola thought and lacked a perfect explanation to give to such action.
"I was actually awake before you knocked, ma'am." Viola responded with a faint smile as she let her in.
"Viola, my dear. I know you must be wondering what brought me here this early morning. But I just want to tell you that I'm very sorry for yesterday. I overreacted, and I know it's wrong!" Mrs. Vans said calmly, locking her palms into Viola's.
Viola opened her mouth, but her lip couldn't let out a word; she was stunned at Mrs. Van's words.
"Viola, please, don't go anywhere. I can see how deeply my son loves you, and I'm overwhelmed to have a daughter-in-law like you." She added.
Viola only smiled and nodded.
"Come," Mrs. Vanssaid and embraced her in a tight hug, and she squinted
.
"Wow! Your bags are well arranged; are you going somewhere?" Mrs. Vans asked casually.
