Prom Night

I am Beth Jones and I am 16 years old. Today is my very first prom and I can't wait. My best friend Darren is taking me. I was so happy that he asked me to go. However, I never expected it would be one of the worst and best days of my life. But I guess I should start at the beginning of this story. Please know this a hard story to tell because this is what happened to a best friend three years ago. The names in this story have been changed.

Darren 18 - "Hey Beth, do you have a minute?"

Beth 16 - "I always have a minute for you."

Darren 18 - "Listen, Beth, you and I have been friends forever and I thought since my girlfriend and I broke up maybe we could to prom together."

Beth 16 - "Really Darren, do you mean it!"

Darren 18 - "Of course, your my best friend, and I know how much you want to go to prom."

That day I would lose my best friend but gained a son.

Darren 18 - "Hey Beth, I know I said I would take you home but I really want to go to the after-prom party at Tyler's. "Will you come with me?"

Beth 16 - "I don't know Darren maybe you should just take me home."

Darren 18 - "Oh come on Beth please go with me. Just for an hour and then I promise to take you home."

Beth 16 - "Ok fine but just an hour, then you take me straight home."

Darren 18 - "Ok I promise."

But little did I know I would never make it back home that night. I would never have a best friend again. That night would both make me and break me.
