Chapter 41 : The Arduous Drive

Mila

A snowflake managed to insinuate itself between my collar and my neck. I yelped as it turned to water and ran down my back.

“Cold! So cold!”

I practically leaped into the truck in an effort to get out of the snow. While it looked lovely, and added a strangely soothing blanket of silence to the world, the snow was just too damn cold for comfort.

This right here is where I miss Texas.

I rearranged my scarf so I wouldn’t have a repeat experience of snow down my back. Dr. Ethan got into the truck and quickly closed the door. He turned to me, his face a grimace.

“Brrrr.”

I laughed at his single word reply.

“Not just brr, but fucking brrr. I didn’t think it could get this cold.”

“At least it’s just snow and not ice. Lucas was telling me about an ice storm they had two winters ago. It knocked down power lines, snapped branches off of trees, and a couple of people died when their power went out and they ran out of firewood.”

“That’s awful.”
