Chapter 32 : The Truce

Mila

True to their word, Luke and Oliver both gave me time and space. I tried to give myself time to think it all over, too. Time to absorb the changes in my life that being with both men had wrought.

I didn’t lie to them. I truly am not angry with either of them.

I just had to take time to adapt to my new world and its new rules.

I tried not to dwell on Chase’s lack of propriety. For one thing, he was impulsive in the extreme and probably hadn’t meant any harm at all, or even mischief.

For another thing, I’d begun to ponder the idea that, sooner or later, the truth would have come out anyway. I was certain Sophie would put a dastardly spin on the whole affair, which caused me more consternation than the news getting out did.

I didn’t go anywhere after Lucas dropped me off until it was time for me to return to work. I made sure to eat at home, and packed a coffee for the road, so I wouldn't have to stop anywhere.
