The Kingdom of the Malaise (7)

'So this is the set effect of the Shadow set huh?'

In terraria, there was a thing called set effects that appeared whenever an entire set of armor was completely worn on ones body.

In basic terms you needed all the components of an armor for the set effect to appear.

In this case it was the Hood, Chest plate and Greaves.

'How very confusing' Currently, I was experimenting with the Shadow set and was looking at the effects it was giving me.

The most noticeable one was the distinct afterimage that appeared whenever I moved my body.

Of course there were several other effects that the armor had that were slightly more hidden and would need some more experimenting to confirm their effects.

But the one I was confirming was the after shadow effect that the armor had.

Like a ghost, whenever I moved my arms or legs, an image of the place where said limb used to be was left behind before it moved to join the rest of the body.

It was honestly extremely confusing seeing my limbs linger in their previous positions before following where my limbs went like a bad case of game lag.

'I have no doubts my enemies would be more confused though'

Grinning underneath the hood of the armor that somehow gained the characteristics of cloth while still retaining it's complete hardness.

I adjusted the face mask that was a part of the purple hood and opened my inventory.

'To celebrate the acquisition of my armor I should put it through the test and find out what it's capable of'

Taking out the blood sword that was my sharp companion in this small hellscape.

I opened the map and looked for my position on it before my legs brought me to the unexplored areas.

---

I held my sword across my face as I felt my muscles ripple as a great force was transmitted through them.

Swinging the blade I manifested the Broadsword in my free hand and brought the blade down, crushing a green zombie underneath it's weight.

A small grin rose on my face as I threw my hand at the zombies comrades.

Simultaneously Ice formed at the tips as they skewered the Undead Archer and Grenadier.

Feeling the back of my neck tingle J leaned forwards into the falling corpse of the zombie and dismissed my weapons and brought out a bow.

And just as I rolled away and pulled a bow from my inventory, the three arrows already nocked as I turned in a crouched position.

A shield bearer came in charging and swung it's wooden shield in an attempt to hit me.

A mistake the monster would've never have made if I wasn't there.

Seeing the shield pass through an intangible after image I grinned upon seeing a loom of confusion pass by it's eyes before several arrows flew through the air and ended the creatures confusion.

Keeping the grin on my face the tingle in my head appeared from my right and I used the shield of Cthulhu to drag me out of the dangerous situation and brought more arrows out of my inventory.

Turning around mid air arrows flew and landed at the heads of the monsters that were trying to eat me alive.

Quickly brining more arrows out of my inventory and mocking it onto the bow, I pulled the strings back on the purple bow and quickly assessed my surroundings.

Nothing but the familiar stone walls, iron chains, iron bars and several infected corpses greeted me.

Seeing no further danger to my being I put my weapons away.

Only to quickly throw a dagger at the shadows that were hiding a nefarious occupant.

Scrreeeek!

Hearing the unfamiliar voice I grinned.

Although I quickly lost my grin when the occupant exploded.

'What the fuck!?'

Hurriedly bringing my arm up and manifesting a shield, it blocked whatever deadly juices that the monster was shedding from its explosion.

If there was one thing I had learned during my time in this hell hole was that nothing could be trusted.

'... No acid sizzling sounds I expected so that's good'

Gingerly looking over the shield I looked at the place the dagger had pierced and found the occupant the dagger was stuck in.

A green bat had the dagger stuck in its head on the ground while bleeding green blood.

A burst sack was underneath the corpse and from it green liquid was leaking out of it.

'...'

Staring at it for a while I smiled.

Since I was seeing something else for a change instead of the four undead I was fighting usually.

I was finally seeing something new for a change.

'And that means...!'

Walking forwards with hurried steps I finally reached a different place instead of the dull prison scheme I was used to watching.

Instead of the square doorways that I was used to facing that separated the prison complexes, even more used to breaking them.

Presented in front of me was a stone archway that was emitting a green glow.

Beyond it was a flight of stairs heading downwards.

Focusing on the archway a new set of words appeared in front of my eyes.

[Toxic Sewers]

Seeing the unfamiliar words in front of me I was filled with an unprecedented joy.

---

That joy quickly disappeared though

---

"As you know, people of Tordell a few days ago our city faced an unprecedented crisis that came in the form of an unrelenting Horde of monster that had only appeared a few times in our long history."

A man in fancy blue attire stood on top of a wooden podium in the middle of a city, facing a veritable crowd of people that was strangely silent.

Facing this silence with ease the man in blue took in a deep breath before speaking again, his voice carrying across the crowd that spilled from the alleyways and manned the roof tops.

The voice of the man carrying an unnatural lilt and tone to it that inevitably attracted the people to listen.

"Caught off guard, the monsters lay siege on our renowned walls that were painstakingly crafted by masters from all over the land."

Hearing those words a slight buzz rose in the crowd before it was quickly fueled by the man's following words.

"It was a crisis on a level that we have never seen before and called for all the able bodies to fight back."

However, the buzz the man created that was rising to new heights quickly quelled itself as it fell silent at his next words.

"BUT! Despite the many losses our people have suffered, one brave A rank adventurer, despite the harrowing horde that was assaulting our walls"

He pointed to a distant set of stone walls, quite a few people following his finger and seeing the smoke that continued to rise from it.

"He faced the horde alone with nothing but his body and blade, slaying many a corrupted creature."

A sad look appeared on the man's face.

"Sadly, the one brave man couldn't hold against the horde of corrupted monsters alone and eventually succumbed to the horse, perishing within it."

He closed his eyes as his face fell even more.

"So terrible and harrowing was the horde that nothing was left of his body by the time the battle was over, the only signs of his existence on this battlefield being the myriad of corpses he left behind and this"

Gingerly taking out a blue blade with great care from out of a small casket in front of him, he held the broken blade for all to see.

The blue blade glinted under the sunlight that hung on the sun's apex, the man holding it up had a worshiping look on his face.

The blood that dyed the blade a slightly different colour stood stark against the blue blade, the dried black blood clinging persistently to it.

"The man was so brave that even your mayor, me, the mayor of Tordell couldn't help but be moved..."

He closed his eyes with reverence and placed the blade back into the casket.

Before abruptly opening them again and gesturing to the giant clothed thing behind him.

"... AND that is why, as your mayor I had something commissioned by master craftsmen to make!"

Quickly walking to the cloth a smile so blinding the light reflected off his teeth and into the crowd appeared on his face.

"So as your mayor! I present to you!..."

He tore the cloth off the unknown item and revealed it to the sun rays that beamed down from the skies like heavenly messengers

"A statue of the brave saviour!"

Standing proudly underneath the sun was a large ten meter tall statue.

With blazing long black hair, a wide grin and a wild aura to it.

A statue of Slade himself stood upright while wielding the same sword that the mayor had reverended before it broke.
