Chimwemwe Pov
I was currently in his room still in his pjs currently talking with Will and Nova through facetime on his laptop. He had recovered a significant amount\ and now just had bandages on his arms.
"And so, Nova over there flipped right into the garbage bin." William laughed and Nova was fuming a little.
"It wasn't my fault I did know it was there when I jumped!" Nova attempted to defend herself. "But anyway, I got a good routine for the union muungano day in two weeks."
"Are you part of the parade or something?" I asked.
"Well, that's a surprise." She winked trying to be all mysterious.
"Just say yes or no." I rolled and turned to Will. "Is she going to be part of the parade?"
"Well, her mom is going to light the umoja torch this year so maybe she will." He guessed.
"Well, your dad is also having a performance this year so aren't you also going to be a part of it too?" She shifted the focus towards Will.
"W-Well I-I don't know I don't think I'll be cut out to be on that huge stage and basically the whole city looking at me." He said sheepishly and Nova rolled eyes a little.
"Hey Chimzey are you coming to Lilongwe for the festival?"
"Probably not, I mean the ceremonial torch is going to be all the way in Lilongwe and I'm here in Lusaka." I explained.
"Oh well but make sure to keep your eyes on the news next Saturday you're going to be surprised." She grinned brightly.
"Man will you just tell me what you're going to do." I asked a little more frustrated and all she did was giggle.
"Roar!" There was a soft lion's roar that got our attention.
"What was that!?" Will asked.
"Relax, it's just my grandma calling me." I reassured them.
"Oh, right, you told me that your grandma had a lioness-like quirk."
"Wait but didn't you say that your aunt has a cheetah quirk so how does that work. Was your granddad also a cheetah?" Nova asked.
"I don't know if quirks are weird." I said truthly.
"Roar!" Agogo roared a little louder this time.
"Well, I'll see you two later." I said my goodbyes and switched off the laptop.
I went downstairs to the living room and found some nsima, huge pieces of chicken with soup and vegetables on the side. Auntie wasn't around and as she went to speak with Mr. Mutale she'll have to go to Mrs. Sosala's organisation so she'll probably won't be back today.
"Wow Looks amazing agogo." I complimented as I went to watch my hands at the sink.
"Thanks cub." She nodded and I sat down then we said our grace then began to eat. "Are you sure you want to go to that training thing tomorrow?" She asked, a little worried.
"Yeah, they sent me a message saying that they remodelled the place so I want to go see what's new. Plus, I'm all healed up now." I flexed my arm a bit.
"Barely a cub." She chuckled. "By the way has your hair been getting a little darker over time?"
"Yeah, I noticed that." I answered. Over the years my light brown hair had been getting darker and darker over the years.
"You know those are the signs of a healthy and strong lion with good genes."
"Wait but I thought that you said I would be a leopard, Jaguar?"
"Well quirks are very strange mdzukulu but I know someone who might help you so if your aunt doesn't throw much of a fit, I'll take you there soon."
"Speaking of which agogo can I talk about something?"
"Anything cub."
"Well, you remember my friend Lusungu right?"
"Yes, the boy who was one of the main reasons for you ending up almost dead." She scowled a little.
"Yeah, right take it a little easy on him but do you think I should have done more to help?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well ever since I met him, he has always wanted to be a hero like his idols All Might and Inkosi but the day he got his quirk it really didn't match well with hero work and a good number of people told him that being a hero was not possible."
"Did you tell him that too?"
"No, I never told he couldn't be a hero but like I said I didn't think his quirk meshed well with the hero 's work." I sighed and continued. "The reason he was even doing the whole vigilante and drugs was that he was desperate to be a hero and prove mostly to himself that he could still be one. But seeing my mutation showing more and more I think that maybe it was the same for him like him growing a stronger body to match his elephant head or maybe getting enhanced memory or something.
So maybe I could have brought him to Miss Matilda's gym to help him out or something." I finished.
"I see so you think that if you helped him with some hero training then maybe he wouldn't have gone down the path he did."
Here in this era of the MHA world being a hero was a highly valued job and most kids wanted to be heroes. So, for someone to say they couldn't be a hero it was a real gut punch. I bet all Matthew wanted to hear was that he could be a hero too, something which I couldn't do.
"Mdzukulu." Agogo called. "I'll be honest with you told me that your friend has a mutant quirk which gave him an elephant head right?" I nodded. "Well for one quirk can be quite random so sure he could have received some additional abilities like me and your auntie but then again maybe he wouldn't so you can't really fault yourself for thinking the way you did.
The hero industry has gone through a huge boom over the recent years and people especially children just want to be heroes because it just looks cool which is a mistake. People tend to forget the horror, sacrifice and hardships which come with the job. That's why most pro heroes in this anyway mostly quit in their rookie years or they go and find smaller or easier missions heck majority are killed those years. That's why they don't encourage borderline forbid quirkless or people with quirks not meant for hero work not to be heroes for their own safety.
Look I don't know about your friend and I'm not going to tell you some nonsense like he could become a hero with his quirk and was him turning to vigilantism and drugs wasn't your fault it was his own doing for easily giving into them. But what I'm getting at here is that your friend is in a vulnerable position and he needs someone for support not to tell him some stuff like could be a hero too but just someone he can turn to a little. " She finished
She had a point since the pillar project I had spent less time with Matthew plus I plus I wasn't really mister social. I was 17 when I died and had some pretty bad experiences with the friends I made in secondary school and a handful of them had ended because of arguments or points on things. With that I had developed a friends come and go mentality.
"Guess your right I'll see what I can do." I said and I finished my food.
"Anyway, how's your guitar practice going?"
"Not great, I don't think it's meant for me."
"I'm sure you'll get it just keep practising. Now watch your hands and help me with the dishes."
"Roger."
Since my arms got better agogo had been teaching me the guitar just to pass time.
A little time later
Agogo and I were outside in the yard.
"The sun feels great today." She said as she began transforming and in her place was now a giant lion and laid on the grass.
"Why do you do that every time you are outside in a green area?" I questioned as I sat and leaned on her.
"It makes me feel more natural." She chuckled and licked me a bit.
"Gross, don't do that." I chuckled. "By the way don't you have a time limit for that form."
"Yes, but after a long time due to my years of practice and training."
"So, what happens when you hit your time limit?"
"Well, I might go crazy and start killing everyone around me till I run out of stamina. So, remind me when it's about to hit 6 hours while I'm still like this or I might eat you." She said bluntly but she was also joking.
"Speaking of which, when I fought that buffalo man, he said the name Nala. Do you know her?" I asked and she paused a bit.
"So, you finally asked huh. Do you really want to know?" She asked seriously.
"Ago that man was attacking me because he thought it was this person or her son so I can assume she's family because auntie seemed to also know who it was."
"Okay you're mature enough to know and I know that daughter of mine isn't really going to tell." She sighed. "Nala is the name of your aunt and she was the one who murdered your mother." I was shocked by the revelation.
"W-wait w-what why. If she was family then why did she kill my mother then!?
"It's just a complicated cub." Agogo struggled a bit to answer. "Nala was just a very strong person with an extremely powerful quirk but she had a high bloodlust and loved fighting a lot. But she loved battling with your mother the most. But one day Nala came to my home and told me that she had killed your mother and then disappeared before I could properly react." She said with anger and sadness in her voice.
"W-Where is she now." I asked, trying to process everything. Both in my old world and here I was taught a lot of the values of family even though you might argue with them or have a fallout with them. Family will still be family and to hear that a family member killed my mother struck me.
"I went to the tribe and demanded her father to tell me her whereabouts, he told me that she gave herself up and is now at the max secure prison." She finished.
I leaned down on her and she wrapped tail around me a little and I just tried to process everything she told me.
