“Cat?” The pimp’s voice cut through the clear night. Mathias made a mental note not to forget her name this time. “You okay over there?”

“Just fine,” she called back over her shoulder. Her eyes were jumpy when she turned back to Mathias. “Just go. You’re only going to make things worse if you don’t.”

“Story of my life, luv.”

Letting her go, he pushed open his car door, pocketing his keys at the same time. Buzz straightened from where he was lounging against the building, his eyes narrowed and dull in the dim light. At his elbow, Cat clawed at his arm, trying to stop Mathias from approaching, but he pushed her off, his unsmiling gaze locked on his target.

“You’re not Henry,” he said casually. For some reason, that name he remembered. “I dealt with him last time.”

“Henry’s on a permanent vacation. You want a date with Cat, you deal with me now.”

She darted around Mathias, placing herself between the two men. “Not this guy, Buzz. He’s bad news.”
