Memories of Mortals and Gods

This is a collection of different short stories/events that my mind makes up. This is aimed to make my writing better and not for a connected storyline. hopefully this will encompass a wide variety of tags and genres in the stories. I want to try my hands with battle scenes, horror, romance, possible smut(in future), wars, adventure, mystery and everything else. most stories will be unconnected but some characters/settings might make a reappearance. Use it for your Dnd storytelling or perhaps some bedtime stories? anyway this one is more for me than you the readers. Will appreciate any feedback and interactions :)

The drowning water god

The world of cultivation and dao was infinite. Mortals aimed to become cultivators, cultivators to immortals and immortals wanted to be gods.

Among the infinite worlds and dimensions there was a small world with only a handful of immortals in recluse. There were cultivators and mortals with aspirations to be one of them. But not Hong shui. He was born in a mortal family and managed to start cultivating at a young age of 11 years old. He unlike his peers had no grand ambition to rule the world. he never liked violence and was adverse to the way of fighting the cultivators used to grow stronger but alas it was the only way.

Hong shui avoided combat. He didnt try to join any sects hosting tournaments to recruit young geniuses, and even if he did he was no genius. Having average talent and hatred to combat he was not cut off for that kind of life. Instead he decided the nature to be his guide and teacher. nature has everything, from law of jungle filled with violence to the nurturing trees whom feed and provide shade. Alas he was no genius so his progress was slow. By the age of 12 he refined his blood, bones, muscles, organs and skin to complete mortal refinement realm. At a pretty average speed. He took 2 years to reach the peak of ascendant disciple stage a bit slower than the average. He had long left his home behind to roam the world. Not like there was anything to leave behind at his now empty home, his parents passing away from a fatal infectious disease.

For the next few years trying to forget the pain of his loss he roamed the world trying to find solace and peace. He enjoyed the vibrant sun, the cool wind, distant rumbling of thunder and the beautiful rain it brought every time. In his journey he found love and he also lost it. He found friends, he made enemies. He found joy and sorrow. His journey ended when he found the boundless ocean. Uncaring of the world the ocean was limitless and beautiful. It was cradle of life and at the same time had the peace that Hong shui craved. He was now a young man aged 19. in the past 5 years he had broken through and cultivated further to reach the peak of awakened realm, the realm after the disciple realm. Upin gazing on the boundless ocean the seed of Dao he needed to ascend to soul birth realm started forming. while he was meditating on the shore, his enemies found him. Having avoided fights all his life hong shui decided not to gove in to the devilish world of humans and decided to give up on it. He entered the deep ocean before his foes could reach him.

Hong shui was drowning. As an awakened he could last without air, water and food for a month and that deadline was approaching. for the past month he was constantly swimming down. He had decided to give up on the violent world and would embrace the ocean. He didnt care for his own life. But he was not an Idiot nor out of options. Infact he melded with the ocean for an ultimate goal. If he manages to complete his seed of dao and enter the soul birth realm, he will be free of his mortal constraints of air, food and water. He would be able to survive on the ever present Qi surrounding him while being in embraced by the ocean.

Slowly but slowly his lungs were running out of air. and atlast out of options he started choking. his lungs exhaled last bit of air while getting filled with the water. Miracle happened the moment he was about to lose his consciousness. With no air and even his lungs filled with the water he gained enlightenment. And suddenly his dao seed was formed with the concept of water. His soul strengthened to form a core hence he entered soul birth realm. Finally able to survive he closed his eyes and started his meditation. He was in a strange state of cultivation and enlightenment where Hong shui lost all feelings. He lost the concept of time and self and became one with water. He cultivated subconsciously and his dao strengthened on its own. Years went by with Hong shui flowing with the water.

He understood the essence of life, water, closer than anyone in the world ever did. Its ability as a solvent, with salts and air dissolved in it. The 'flow' of water. The waves. The density. The depth. The vastness. And The Eternity. And with eternity suddenly Hong shui was an immortal. An immortal who almost drowned now was the immortal who closely understood the water itself.

Immortal hong shui didnt stop his meditation. With nothing to do with human world anymore he continued his cultivation now with infinite time on his hand. He knew everything about the element of water. He understood it and became it. Hence he now meditated on how the element reacts with the rest of the world. He felt it reaction to heat and cold. the frozen ice to the boiling steam. the absolute zero temperature where it lost all the energy to cease from existence to the pure energy like nature at infinite temperatures. He felt the growth and the ebb. He created it out of nothing and destroyed it into nothing. He transformed water into everything and everything into water. He created life itself and destroyed it as well. He created world out of nothing and that day he became a god. the first god of this world.

Hence was born the legend of Water god who drowned.

Authors Note: I wanted to write a very abridged version of a cultivation novel character. I didnt want to commit to a 3000 chapter novel so instead opted for 1 chapter one. I am not sure how readable, understandable and enticing the story was but hope it was all that. Hong shui was a type of character i wanted to write for a long time. Basically an average dude with no advantage, no fated chance, no luck, no plot armour, not even a battle genius just a person who was driven to his goal with single minded focus. He was a nobody who made it to the peak following his passion and i wanted to give readers and the other cultivators hope that they can reach the top as well as long as they are always taking small steps to improve themselves constantly.
