CHAPTER 4: RUINS PART 1

Once Noctis made it back to Cobalt city. He went to the inn he was staying at for the night and decided to come back in the morning to turn in his quest as well as see if Goblin Slayer and Ruri were back or not.

The Next Day

Noctis made his way to the guild again. When he entered the guild he did not see Goblin Slayer or Ruri. He figured that they must still be out doing their quest. It was a whole fort of goblins so it might take a whole night.

He went up to Lucy and handed her the quest.

Lucy smiled "Good to see you back."

She then handed Noctis a paper "Make sure to fill out your report on here."

Noctis sighed "Lucy you know I hate paper work. Can't you just push it through for me."

Lucy gave an evil smile and the aura around her changed it suddenly became cold "No."

Noctis held his head down dejectedly as he went away to write his report. He could hear Lucy giggle as he walked away. He started to fill out the report as people rushed around as the new quests for the day started to come in.

Once he finished the report he went back to Lucy and handed it to her with a tired expression. If there was one thing so far he did not like about this world besides monsters it was the fact that he had to fill out these reports after each mission.

Noctis asked "Lucy can I rank up yet."

Lucy shook her head "Not yet Noctis. You have only been steel ranked for a couple days."

Noctis sighed "I know but I do all my missions solo an I clearly have the skill set."

Lucy nodded "I know but ranking up is not just about how skilled you are. It's also about…."

Noctis continued her sentence "Missions done and mission completion percentage."

Noctis then said "I know I know. But I do have a one hundred percent completion percentage."

Lucy smiled "You just need more missions."

Noctis was about to continue but then three people walked in. It was a green haired elf, a dwarf an a big green lizard man. They came up next to Noctis and Lucy.

Noctis immediately recognized them and knew what they were here for but wanted to wait it out. Noctis looked at the High elf for a bit and was lost in thought he thought she was more beautiful in person.

The three then came up and the high elf immediately asked "Is there someone called Orcbolg around here?"

Lucy was immediately confused since she had never heard that name "Ordbolg?"

The high elf shook her head "Not Orc. Orcbolg is there someone who goes by that around here."

The dwarf butted in "You dumb elf that is not what he is called in human tongue. We are looking for some called BeardCutter."

Lucy was even more confused "BeardCutter?"

Noctis tried his hardest not to laugh at the ridiculous names. The Lizard man then moved the two to the side "I'm sorry for my companions rowdiness. I believe in human tongue he is called Goblin…"

But the Lizard man was cut off as Goblin Slayer and Ruri stepped through the door and Lucy smiled and said loudly "Goblin Slayer."

The three paused talking as Goblin Slayer started to make his way to Lucy. He went right past them and cut in front of them the high elf got annoyed and said "Hey you…"

But she did not even get to finish as Goblin Slayer started to talk to Lucy "We finished the quest and the goblins in that area are taken care of."

Lucy put on a bright smile "Well done. Welcome back Goblin Slayer."

This caused the three non humans to gasp in shock. Noctis lost it and started to die laughing. At the three this whole time Noctis was trying to hold it in but it just came out and he could not stop.

Then Goblin Slayer without missing a beat asked Lucy "You mentioned goblins where are they? How many?"

Noctis really lost it this time he was rolling on the floor. This guy cares about goblins so much he did not even pay attention to a high elf, dwarf and lizard man. Only humans are ever around in this town. Lucy pointed to the three "Well you should ask them."

The lizard man then asked "Sir Goblin Slayer may we have a moment of your time there is something we would like to discuss with you."

Goblin Slayer nodded "Fine."

Lucy smiled and said "There is a meeting room upstairs that you can use."

Goblin Slayer started to walk towards the room and the other three followed. Ruri was told to wait and Noctis was slowly getting up from the ground.

Noctis decided to go and look at the quest board. After awhile he could not find anything that he wanted to do. None of the quests available mentioned any kind of monster slaying. He looked over and saw a purple witch talking extremely slow to Ruri.

Noctis walked up to Lucy and started to complain "Lucy there is no monster slaying quests on the board."

Lucy looked at Noctis and then back at the paper "Maybe if you spent less time laughing at people and more time looking for a quest you would have found one."

Noctis hit his head on the table. "Lucy is so mean."

Lucy sighed "Why don't you ask Goblin Slayer if you can go with him. If those three silver ranks are going to give him a quest then he will probably need help."

Noctis smirked under his mask "It sounds like you just want me to go with him to make sure he is safe."

Lucy blushed a bit "Of course not I'm telling you to go with him so you will get out of my hair."

Noctis snickered "Sure sure whatever you say."

Goblin Slayer then came back and went in front of Lucy "Talk to the three about payment. I need to go kill some goblins at some ruins."

Noctis then said "Oh that sounds like fun. Goblin Slayer please let me go with you I want to kill some monsters."

Goblin Slayer looked at Noctis and paused "Fine."

He then turned back to Lucy "Give me the pay for the last quest I'm heading out."

Lucy said "But you haven't filled out a report yet…. Well I guess it's okay since it's you Goblin Slayer."

Noctis's eyes widen "What kind of favoritism is this."

Lucy then handed Goblin Slayer the money who left a portion of it on the table "Give the rest to Ruri."

Lucy tilted her head "Are you going without her?"

Goblin Slayer nodded "She needs to rest."

Ruri then said loudly "Goblin Slayer. You received a quest right?"

Goblin Slayer nodded "Yes slaying goblins."

Ruri smiled "I'll get ready immediately then."

Goblin Slayer then said "No. You need to rest."

Ruri looked down at the floor "You could at least discuss it with me."

Goblin Slayer said blankly "I am."

Ruri then was confused "This is a discussion?"

Noctis could not believe this he walked up to Goblin Slayer and patted him on the back "We need to work on your communication skills. Ruri come on he won't mind if you tag along so stop looking like your about to cry."

Ruri's mood did a complete 180 as she nodded and came over by them. Goblin Slayer turned to Noctis and before he even said anything Noctis said "With better communication you can also kill goblins more efficiently."

Noctis then jumped a bit he could have sworn he saw a glint of excitement in Goblin Slayers mask at the thought of killing goblins more efficiently. Noctis nodded "Well let's go."

With that both Goblin Slayer and Ruri started to head out the door. Noctis was following them but paused at the door and turned to look at the three from earlier on the stairs heading there way. Noctis smiled under his mask "You better hurry up or you will be left behind." Noctis then exited the building as well.

Later that night.

The group of six were currently surrounding a campfire at a barren desert. They had talk along the way and Noctis learned their names. The Lizard Mans name is Krox, the dwarfs name is Dain and the high elf's name is Fayeyor. Noctis decided to just call her Faye for short much of the time to her disagreement but she would have to deal with it.

In the circle it went Faye, Noctis, Ruri, Goblin Slayer, Krox, and then Dain. Dain had finished making a soup and it was being past around. Noctis decided to wait to eat. Faye also could not eat as she was a vegetarian.

Ruri then asked "So why did you all become adventurers?"

Dain immediately said "Well to taste the best food around the world of course."

Noctis frowned Dain then turned to Faye "What about you long ears."

Faye smiled "Well I wanted to explore the outside…"

But she was cut off by Dain exclaiming how good the soup was. Faye got annoyed "Hey."

Dain brushed her off "A vegetarian like you could never know the amazing taste of this meat soup."

Ruri then handed over a bowl of soup with no meat in it "Here you go Faye."

Faye gave a grateful nod "Thank you."

Ruri then turned to Krox "So what about you Krox."

Krox closed his eyes "I wish to evolve into a dragon."

Everyone just gave a blank smile and looked at Krox. Noctis then asked "What about you Goblin Slayer."

He then mumbled "I think I already know the reason though."

Goblin Slayer blankly said "To slay…"

Everyone said "We know to slay goblins."

Everyone began to laugh except Goblin Slayer who remained as neutral as possible. Faye then turned to Noctis "What about you Noctis."

Noctis smiled under his mask "Simply to fight. I want to become stronger. So why not just fight and go on adventures to get rid of monsters and scum alike."

Everyone nodded and Dain said "That's definitely one way to do it."

Noctis mumbled and no one heard him "Better then just doing it for food."

Faye then turned to Ruri "Well since you offered me something it's only fair that I do the same (Faye pulled out some food.) These are elven rations we are not suppose to share them with outsiders but I think it's fine."

Ruri had a bite of it and thought it was really good and that's when Dain decided to speak up "Well since we are all sharing how about trying this dwarven made Fire Wine."

Faye was confused "Fire Wine?"

Dain smirked "A long ears like you could not handle it."

Faye got annoyed and grabbed a ladle she quickly took a huge gulp. She coughed after drinking it then immediately became drunk. Dain started to laugh and looked over at Noctis.

Noctis rolled his eyes under his mask "I can handle it easily."

Noctis took off his mask much to the surprise of Ruri. Noctis paused before fully taking off his mask "Why are you so surprised Ruri it's not like I sleep with it on. Unlike Goblin Slayer."

Noctis then continued to take off his mask. Once it was off there was silence. Noctis smirked "Am I that handsome?"

Faye then said loudly "No. We can't even see your face with the hood still on."

Faye then reached over and pulled Noctis's hood back. There were many gasps Noctis smirked "I know I know really handsome right."

Faye and Ruri nodded their heads but then Faye said "What's really surprising is that you're an elf."

Noctis shrugged "It's no big deal. I'm actually a half- high elf."

Ruri was confused "A half-high elf?"

Noctis nodded and lied "My father was a high elf and my mother a normal human."

Faye reached over and started to feel Noctis's ears. Causing Noctis to blush a bit. Faye then said "Well your ears are high elf like but they go up instead of to the side like mine."

Noctis smirked and then lightly grabbed Fayes ear causing her to let out a soft moan. Noctis's eyes went wide as both Noctis and Faye were staring at each other holding each other's ears. Noctis's ears were far less sensitive then Faye's but it still felt weird for her to hold on to his ear. Ruri coughed causing the two to quickly let go of each and look around at everyone staring at them even Goblin Slayer.

Noctis pinched the bridge of his nose and thought 'Even Goblin Slayer was watching.'

Noctis quickly tried to change the situation and grabbed the ladle trying to get as much Fire Wine as he could. He filled the ladle and slammed it down. He did not cough at all or make a face instead he said "This is pretty good."

He quickly then drank another ladle full of Fire Wine. He then side glanced at Faye noticing that she seemed lost in her own world. Dain then laughed "You handle it pretty well Noctis. You might be able to out drink some dwarves back at my home."

Noctis smirked and turned to Dain "Thank chu berry mush."

Dain had a sweat drop go down his face "Maybe not."

The rest of the night went on with the group getting to know each other and telling their own stories. Eventually they started to wonder where goblins came from. But no one truly knew they each had their own theory's. Noctis's theory was much more graphic then the others so he decided not to share it. After all why would goblins do things to human girls if not to reproduce their kind. After everyone discussed their theory's Goblin Slayer passed out sitting straight up.

Noctis chuckled "Well looks like Goblin Slayer called it a night. We should get some rest as well. I will take first watch."

Everyone agreed to it. Slowly everyone went to sleep with a rotating watch over the night.
