"Darius," Alpha Beowulf began, his voice resounding a hint of pleading, "it would be more beneficial to have Rhett with us. His keen senses and sharp mind might come in handy."
What in the seven holy hells was that?
Did the Alpha really need to sound like he was going to have Rhett stay back if Darius said no? There was more to this relationship between Darius and Beowulf that exceeded being just in-laws.
Later, when some of their problems were solved, he would look into this; Rhett affirmed internally to himself.
Darius was silent for a moment, his gaze fixed on Rhett like a predator assessing its prey, sizing him up from top to bottom. Rhett really hoped he'd do something stupid and he'd finally have his punch delivered but he was disappointed.
"Very well." Darius grudgingly agreed.
Rhett saw how Farkas and Bain exchanged surprised glances but none dared say anything.
