"Are you leaving?"
Even though it's a question, it sounds like an answer.
Jack's figure instantly froze. He wasn't surprised that Kara knew he was leaving.
After all, he had told Alex, and with the relationship between the two sisters, she probably told Kara long ago.
No wonder Kara had been refusing to go to Krypton for the past week, coming home straight after work to spend time with him.
She knew everything.
"Alex told me you were leaving. At first, I didn't believe it, or instead, I didn't want to believe it."
Kara's voice was calm as she approached step by step, her feet moving in time with her words.
Jack didn't turn around. He didn't know how to face Kara. Despite her calm tone, how could he not hear the trembling in her voice?
Suddenly, Kara's hands passed through his armpits and hugged him tightly.
"I hate you!"
Jack still didn't say anything. He didn't know what to say.
He held Kara's hand, and the two of them fell silent. The room was so quiet that they could only hear the ticking of the clock.
After a while, Jack spoke softly,
"If I had a choice, I'd rather not leave."
"But... I don't have a choice."
He turned around and reluctantly put his arms around Kara.
The past two months together had made him reluctant to leave.
He was surprised to find that the pain he felt when he had to leave Kara was worse than anything he had ever felt before.
Kara was special to him. He didn't know what made her special, but one thing was sure—they had met before.
That weird and scary dream seemed to be telling him where Kara was.
Why exactly?
Jack didn't know.
Perhaps he would find the answers later, but for now, he didn't know and didn't want to know.
In a few hours, he would be forced to leave. Maybe the next time he came, he would be able to find the answers.
After a while, Kara seemed to calm down. Her red eyes looked at Jack, but she remained strong and didn't shed a tear.
"I'm hungry."
Jack smiled and repeated the words he said almost every day, using the same tone as usual.
"I'll cook. You sit for a while. It'll be ready soon."
Kara obediently nodded and sat on the couch, turning on the TV to watch the news, just like usual.
Jack entered the kitchen and began preparing dinner.
Their dinner was simple—just three dishes and a soup for the two of them.
Scrambled eggs with tomatoes,
Stir-fried pork,
Stir-fried bitter melon,
And finally, seaweed soup.
Kara became obsessed with Chinese food after Jack showed her how good he was at cooking. She wanted to eat it every day, and it had to be different kinds each time.
Luckily, Jack was good at all kinds of cooking, so it wasn't hard for him.
In no time, the meal was ready and served on the table.
Kara had already sat at the table early, waiting for Jack.
Neither of them spoke, just repeating their usual routine—eating.
But this time, both Kara and Jack felt that the food had lost its taste due to their sadness at leaving.
During the meal, apart from the sound of chopsticks picking up food, there was silence.
Jack didn't like this atmosphere. He put down his chopsticks and looked at Kara across from him. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but at that moment,
Roar!!!!!
A piercing roar that seemed to come from hell resounded in his ears, causing his face to change instantly.
Jack stood up and looked around carefully. He used his biofield to scan the whole city, trying to figure out what caused that loud roar.
However, there was no result.
At that moment, Kara spoke.
"Jack, are you okay?"
Seeing Jack so nervous, Kara couldn't help but worry, walking over and supporting his arm, looking at him with concern.
"Didn't you hear?"
Jack looked at Kara in surprise. From her expression, it seemed she hadn't heard the roar just now.
"Hear what? I didn't hear anything."
Kara strangely shook her head because she didn't get it.
Jack was confused and thought he was going through hallucinations because he was going to have to leave Kara soon, but then the sound echoed again.
"No, this is not an illusion."
Jack confirmed that it was real, but it seemed that only he could hear it, and Kara couldn't.
What's going on?
Before he could figure out what was going on, the glass door of the deck suddenly broke, and a figure rushed in. It was Superman, Clark
But this time, he had a serious and even anxious expression on his face.
The news he brought left Jack and Kara at a loss.
"Sorry to interrupt your private time, but... I just received a distress signal from Krypton. They said Doomsday is back."
"?!!!!"
This news came out of nowhere and caught Jack and Kara by surprise.
Doomsday?
Is back?
Jack was the first to react.
He knew the danger of Doomsday better than anyone. At least the current stage of the rebuilt Krypton would not be able to handle this mess.
Not to mention that Doomsday was the true culprit behind the destruction of the ancient Kryptonian empire.
His arrival would be a nightmare for the entire multiverse.
Without thinking, Jack blurted out,
"What's the situation right now?"
"My father said that although Doomsday is back, it hasn't broken through the Phantom Zone. But his prison won't hold for long."
Hearing that Doomsday was still in prison inside the Phantom Zone, Kara let out a sigh of relief. Then she thought of something and looked at Jack in disbelief.
"He's coming for me!"
Jack nodded knowingly. No wonder he was the only one who heard the roar earlier.
This raised the danger level of this ancient Doomsday in Jack's mind even further.
The fact that his voice could be heard over dozens of light years showed that he was not to be underestimated.
"No, you can't!"
Kara strongly rejected his idea by shaking her head.
"I have to go, Kara."
Jack held Kara's face in his hands, looking into her eyes seriously.
"He's coming for me! And only I can stop him. Trust me, I can win."
"But..."
Kara wasn't easily convinced. But before she could say anything, she suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness before she could react.
Jack held Kara's body and gently laid her on the couch, covering her with a blanket.
"She'll hate me for this."
He lightly kissed Kara's furrowed brow, then took out a ring from his pocket and gently placed it on her ring finger.
"Hopefully, this will calm her down."
He stood up and looked at Clark beside him.
"You stay here and take care of her."
"Stay here?! But what about Doomsday?"
Clark asked instinctively, but he quickly realized
"I'll go meet him!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Jack's figure disappeared without a trace.
