Amelie's eyes opened wide in shock. "Is Dad aware of this?." She asked in a low voice.
Calla sighed softly she knew that would be the little girl's next question.
"I would tell you about that next time." She smiled and playfully pinched Amelie's cheek. "As for now, go and have fun with your friends, practicing how to shoot."
The little girl rolled her eyes and crossed her arms on her chest. "Stop trying to change the topic, Mom." She pouted her lips. "Tell me, Mom, is Dad aware of your marriage to that man?."
Calla hated Amelie's stubborn side, why couldn't she just obey her like other kids do?
"I said I don't want to tell you about it now, once I am ready, I would tell you all about it." Her tone was a little harsh, the little girl was frightened by the tone of her mother's voice.
"Sorry, Mom, I shouldn't have asked in the first place." She sounded so sorry.
Calla's heart ached at the look on Amelie's face, she shouldn't have been so harsh on her.
"Sorry for raising my voice on you, darling, remember Mummy loves you." She pulled the little girl into an embrace.
"I love you too, most feared and respected one." They both laughed at the way Amelie addressed Calla.
Calla watched as Amelie retreated from the office to where her friends were training, she smiled inwardly, it had been three years since she started being Amelie's mother, the little girl had brought her nothing but joy, she loved her so much.
Inside Davis's car…
The atmosphere was chilly and silence reigned inside the car. Garcia knew his boss was in a bad mood and the only thing that could calm him down was to torture or kill somebody.
The car was not in motion, because Davis had asked Garcia not to move the car, they had been sitting there for about twenty minutes, and Garcia was already tired of sitting there and doing nothing.
"Boss, is there anything bothering you, you can tell me about it." Garcia mustered all his courage as he said those words to Davis.
He was fully aware that the boss didn't like it when someone spoke to him when he was angry but he had to try.
Davis gave him a cold stare. "To my in-law's house, now."
Garcia swallowed, the boss was really frightening, but instead of putting the car in motion, he hesitated. "Did you say your in-law's house, boss?."
Davis stared at him angrily. "I believe you weren't deaf when I said it the first time."
Garcia apologized. "Sorry, boss."
He immediately started the car and headed towards the house of the Millers.
'Why does the boss want to go to his in-laws' house all of a sudden, what happened inside that building?." Garcia thought to himself.
He summoned the courage to ask Davis about his sudden decision to visit the Millers.
"Boss, is there any reason why you want to visit the Millers? I mean is anything special happening there?."
Davis massaged his head as he heard Garcia's questions.
"Was there anytime that Calla was pregnant?."
Garcia's jaw dropped at the question. What on earth made his boss ask him such a question, did anything happen to her?
"No boss, I don't think she has ever been pregnant." His tone was certain as if he was sure of what he was saying.
"Can a seventeen-year-old girl adopt a child?." Davis's next question almost choked his assistant.
'Why the heck is he asking me all this?.' Garcia screamed in his head.
Garcia shook his head. "No, boss, it's against the laws, she wouldn't have the time and resources to care for herself and the child, except maybe in a situation where she is financially stable and the people in charge of the child were paid a huge amount of money to legalize the adoption."
Davis thought about what Garcia had said for some time before hitting him with another question.
"Do you think that Calla might have adopted a child at the age of seventeen?."
Garcia fell silent for a moment, where was the conversation leading to? He wondered.
"I can't say anything about it for now, because I haven't seen the facts. If there is something you want to know just ask me." Garcia said in a serious tone.
"Stop the car."
Garcia immediately obeyed him and parked the car in a corner.
"Today as I was about entering into my wife's office, I overheard Amelie address her as 'mom'." He sighed softly. "I first reasoned she must be Amelie's mother but then, the little girl is five years old while Calla is twenty-two, there is no way she could have given birth to a child at seventeen right?."
Garcia nodded. "There is no way she could have given birth at the age of seventeen." He paused and took a deep breath, he had to give his boss a reasonable explanation of the matter, or else he might go crazy thinking his wife had a child out of wedlock without informing him about it.
"There is also no way she could have adopted a child at the age of seventeen since she was still under her parents by then, but maybe she had adopted the little girl when she was three or four years old, by that time she was nineteen or twenty years old, making her legal to adopt a child, plus she also had the resources." Garcia reasoned.
Davis nodded slowly as if digesting all that Garcia had said.
'But why did have to adopt a child at such a young age, because she would get married someday and have her kids.' Davis thought to himself, he wasn't fully convinced that Amelie was adopted, so instead of going to his inlaw's house as he had planned, he decided to visit his friend who he could share his problems with.
"Turn the car around and head to Dylan's office."
"Yes, boss."
"I have to find out the truth before nightfall," Davis said with determination, his mind wouldn't be at rest if he didn't uncover the truth about Amelie before nightfall.
