Chapter 23
Laura drove over to Chris's parent house by herself without her driver, she packed her car outside then proceed to walk inside.
She feels very angry with what his mother did the last time but she understands that she must be angry with her because of what she did in the past. Their mothers were best of friends and they both got married to a man against their families wishes but her mother was lucky that she is the only child so her parents has no choice but it was different with Chris's mother
Laura got to the entrance and knock on the door gently, she wanted to use the opportunity to apologize for her attitude to their family in the past and try to get along with her if possible
She stayed at the entrance without anyone coming to open the door for about five minutes before she knocks again, soon she heard a familiar voice talking and the door opened
Laura is quite surprised to see Mira putting on an apron and holding some apple in her hand, she blink her eyes to be sure that she is not seeing things. Why would she ask her over if Mira is there
"Come in, why are you staring at me like that?" Mira said rudely and left the door
"Mom, she is here!" she called out to Chris's mother who also came out of the kitchen looking distraught
"You are here already? I thought it will take you about two to three hours to get here, I see you are not that busy" she stated and dropped the rolling pin in her hand then remove the apron
"I thought its something urgent, what are you doing?" Laura asked ignoring her words
"We are trying to make some pizza but mum can't even make them properly" Mira answered
"That's because it's been long since I last prepared it" she defended and Laura laughs silently
"Why don't I help you to prepare it then, am quite good at it" Laura offered and the both of them looked at her in doubt
Laura move forward and took the rolling pin on the table then she entered the kitchen and they both followed her curiously
Laura saw the state of the kitchen and the mess the both of them has created everything, she sighed softly and put on an apron then get to work.
She start by cleaning up the mess before beginning the procedure of making the pizza
Mira and Chris's mom stare and watch her for a while, then they helped her with some other small stuff and soon the pizza is ready to be eaten
Laura took off the apron after cleaning her hands and drying them off then turn to see Mira and Chris's mom staring at the pizza hungrily
"You can help yourselves" she said and Mira quickly took a plate and serve herself and Chris's mom then she turned to Laura to ask if she wants some also
"No, am good" she replied
"Are you going to say we made you do all the work then eat everything by ourselves, you should have some" Chris's mom said and took another plate out for her.
The three of them start to eat after sitting in the dinning room and soon finish, Laura offered to pack the plates but Mira refused and packed everything to wash, Chris's mom cleared her throat to talk after she left and Laura turned to her
"Am sure you must have guessed why I asked you to be here" she begin, Laura puts on a smiling face
"Not really"
"Well, it has to do with Mira and Chris. Your relationship with my son will soon be over and I hope you can end things properly with him then and let him go"
"Did Chris tell you that?" Laura asked, the smile is no more on her face and she looked a bit pissed
"He doesn't have to tell me, am sure you remember our two families meeting on my birthday to discuss about them and the only obstacle in the way is your fake marriage with him so I hope…"
"I get it, please tell Chris I understand and won't be a problem for him, once everything is done we won't have any reason to come across each other again"
"I like how sensible you are, you see Mira and Chris has been.." She continued and Laura felt like she might burst out if she continues to listen to her after all, she knows what she is trying to do.
"I will take my leave then if that's all" she said not listening to her anymore and stood up then picked up her bag
"OK..okay then, thanks for the pizza" Chris's mom replied and watch her leave in silence.
She except her to disagree or argue with her but she just agreed, could what Mira told her be false? she still feels bad and wants to start having a second thinking about it but Mira suddenly jump out in front of her and the guilt disappeared
"Mom, you are done talking to her?" Mira questioned eagerly
"Yes, she is gone"
"But I didn't even hear you talking at all, I said you should warn and scare her a little" Mira reminded sitting down in front of her
"There was no need for that, she agreed immediately" she told her
"What do you mean there was no… She agreed! Really?" Mira shouted surprised and also in disbelief
"She did, stop shouting in my ear"
"But did I see wrong then?" She asked herself
"I told you there is no way an arrogant girl like her will ever like my son, you should have some trust in Chris. Their relationship is purely business"
"That can't be, am sure with what I told you. She has this kind of attitude whenever Chris is around and she even allows him to take care of some business and they watch the business news together" Mira recount still not believing that Laura doesn't like Chris at all
"Just be calm and wait, am sure he didn't ask you to leave because of her" she assured her and Mira nodded in agreement.

Laura didn't go back to the office after leaving Chris's house, she went back to sunflower house and start to take care of the flowers.
It's her mother's favourite place because of her love for the flower and there are like a zillion flowers there.
Although her nanny protest for her to stop and leave the work for the gardeners in charge but she continued till very late in the night and only stopped when it's around ten at night.
Her nanny came out to meet her when she saw her sitting on the floor and bought some water to her, Laura took it and gulp down the water in a matter of seconds, her nanny ran back in to get her another glass which she drank in the same manner.
Laura gave the glass back to her and lay down on the floor then she suddenly scream scaring the old woman
"Laura, what is wrong with you?" She queried placing her hands on her chest in a fright
Miss Steven bend down to her and hit her lightly to get her to stand up from the floor
"You can't just lay down on the floor like this, stand up and go clean up" she said and repeated when Laura didn't make a move
"What is wrong with you? Should I call Avan over?" She asked worried
"Don't call anyone" Laura spoke lowly and stood up weakly
"I'm just a bit stressed with work" she explained and drag her tired body into the house while Miss Steven followed closely and wanted to follow her to her room but Laura stopped her and told her to leave for the day then shut her door
Miss Steven was so worried about leaving her alone like that and went to the kitchen to prepare some food for her then wait for another hour but she wasn't coming out so she decided to call Avan over to take care of her hoping that he will be able to get her to talk then she left the house…

Chris finally decide to call Laura's office after waiting for her to come back for days now, the both of them needs to talk about the contract renewal between hers and Avan's company and apart from that he is getting really worried and lonely about her not being at home
Clara picked the call after trying for a long time only to inform him that she is not available in the company and without any useful information of where she can be from her, Chris hang up the phone and decide to wait till tomorrow.
The meeting tomorrow will surely happen and he will surely see her then, not to talk that he has a lot to tell her concerning her previous contracts with him, he wonder if she didn't read the contracts before agreeing to them and signing them or maybe she trusts him too much
Everything in the contract and reports on the business transactions between them is not measuring up to each other and the contract is completely different from what Laura gave it to him which make he believes that everything has been tampered with behind her back.
He called in his secretary and let him leave with others while he continues to dig into it and get to the bottom before the time for the contract signing tomorrow.
