CHAPTER 7

The sound of the wind dancing was music to the ear, the street was people free; probably at their workplace.

"I'm guessing you are heading to Berkeley's. The mere thought of being in the same space as that freak makes me shudder." Hermione said physically shuddering like she was disgusted, it was all a silly act.

" He's not a freak!" Sarah said defending him.

It irks her when Hermione does that, insulting Tom at every given opening. She's fully aware of her best friend's disdain towards him, but she did have to make it so obvious?

" You know, I've always wondered why you defend him..." Hermione said pausing for a second before she gasped.

"You like him, don't you... That has to be it!"she said shock and a hint of disgust on her face.

" What? Of course not. W.. W.. why would you even think that!" Sarah said lying through her teeth.

The response didn't seem to convince Hermione

"Then why did you stutter?"

"Hermione I'm running late, see you later." she said walking as fast as her legs could go to escape judge-y Betty. Her lips slowly stretched in a smile as she saw him through the transparent door, he seemed to be writing down something.

The bell atop of the door jiggled as she pushed the door open. He looked up at her, his eyes rather distant like he was in a dream or something. He hasn't even spoken a word to her since she walked in.

"HEY, HEY, Don't you dare zone out on me!" Her face unconsciously scrunched up in a frown as she tried to call his attention. He finally got his senses.

"Eh... sorry. What genre would you like to get Sarah?" he said a bit too loud for her liking. She looked up and down at him faking a disgusted face, her eyes scanned the shop, mentally checking for one she hadn't seen as the perfect alibi since she walked in here with no intent other than to see Tom.

"Hmph!

Any scary one you've not seen yet?" She said having no idea why she asked for a horror movie, she doesn't even like them! He seemed taken aback by her request, he's making her look like a crazy fella for asking for such. How dare he!

"You know what, I'd just check around myself." she said hitting the counter harder than she intended to.

What the hell is going on with her? It is him. He is making me act this way!

Sarah came to the shelf full of movies, pretending to search through them. She turned and snagged a glimpse of Tom soliloquizing, a smile appears on her face as he shook his head as if he was mentally canceling something. She cleared her throat getting rid of the smile and motioned to resume her search.

Picking up a movie and not caring to look at it, she headed for the counter. The pink flair material of her dress swirled from the waist below. The constant action of rubbing his hands over his face got her irritated, he could be transferring germs from all the stuff he's touched to his face.

"What's your deal? Ring this up for me." she said dropping the movie on the desk mentally apologizing for how rude she was being.

"Do not worry Sarah... this check's on me. Do en..."

"Don't, Don't, Don't! Just ring the fucking bill and quit being an idiot." she said cutting him off. Why was he trying to be nice to her? Does he by chance like me? No Sarah, don't get your hopes up, she thought. It'd just get crushed all over again.

She ignored the fact that she was being harsh and rude as she couldn't see through her rage at that moment.

She grabbed the bag, dropping the money on the counter when he was hesitating to take it. She was on the verge of crying. Discreetly, she pinched herself to halt the tears, she'd never cry in his presence, never.

"You are just as repetitive as this fucking town. Grow up already, you idiot!" She said with a shaky voice hoping he doesn't notice as she walked out the shop.

She let out the breath she was holding, welcoming the breath of fresh air. She rested slightly on the wall of the rentals feeling a familiar sting around her eyes as the once clear house in front of the rentals became murky and her throat clogged to the point of being painful.

She closed my eyes willing the tears to come forth as she was exhausted from holding back. The salty liquid rolled down her cheeks, crossing her slightly parted lips before getting lost beneath her jaw. She wiped the tears as she walked a few steps away from the shop then throwing the movie to the side. She wasn't interested in whatever it was.

"Screw you Tom." she said, feeling the ache in her chest, one that she was now accustomed to whenever she thought of Tom. She wished it was like a switch she could turn off, or something she could take a break from because she hated this feeling of uncertainty, she needed to know how he feels.
