Summary: He'd know you for years, centuries really, you weren't quiet a human, but you weren't an quiet angel either, at least not like other angels. After the ordeal with Cain, he needs the distraction, and figuring out what you are seems perfect. If only he wasn't using you as an excuse to forget about his own troubles.

The sound of gunshots echoed around them, nearly drowning out all other noise. Bullets flew across the room and Lucifer flinched with every one that sunk into now bloodstained wings. He cradled Chloe close to him, wings spread around them in a futile attempt to protect her from the hailstorm of bullets.

The fainest sound of glass shattering could be heard over the gunshots, and he absentmindedly noted the shards of glass hitting his back. However, the gunfire began to quiet, replaced instead by the sound of men shouting in pain, and various items breaking across the room, he lifted his head.

"What..."

Cain hit the wall with a deafening thud, and Lucifer slowly uncurled his injured wings. Just in time to see you bring your foot down on the cursed human's head, effectively knocking him out. Although you added a few extra kicks out of spite.

"Y/N?"

You turned to the devil, your angered expression morphing into concern.

"Oh Luci..."

You stepped around the mess of bullet shells and feathers, reaching a hand out towards him.

"I'll be fine, take the Detective somewhere far from here." He said, rolling his shoulders a little.

"But Lucifer your-"

"Please Y/N."

You pressed your lips together but did as he asked, taking her from the building, to a nearby roof, far enough away for her not to affect Lucifer but close enough for you to help him if he needed it. Although you knew he wouldn't. You sat down beside the unconscious woman, staring at her for a few moments.

"He'd go to war for you." You smiled a bit.

"Chloe! Detective wait! You shouldn't go in there Lucifer is-"

You tried to explain the situation to Chloe when she'd woke but she was determined to find Lucifer. Your words fell on deaf ears as you rushed after her. You would have applauded her for how easily she'd tracked him down, if only she hadn't walked in on him standing over Cain's lifeless body. Devil face on full display for her to see.

His expression had nearly broken your heart when she left. The fear in her eyes, the rejection, it was as if someone had taken his heart and shattered it like glass.

"Lucifer, just wait, maybe it's not as bad as you think..."

You tried to comfort him as he left in a hurry, but he was having none of it.

"Not now Y/N! I just... I need a drink..."

So you helped him home, letting him lean on you as the pain of his injuries finally caught up with him. You got him home, you sat him down and you silently groomed his wings. Plucking the ruined feathers and carefully cleaning the blood, from the once white wings.

"She'll come around Lucifer..." You spoke softly, a bloodstained feather floating to the ground.

He scoffed but said nothing in return and you frowned as he practically chugged the contents of the whiskey bottle in his hand.

"If she's anything like you told me, you haven't lost her."

That caught his attention and he stood, causing you to jump back to avoid being hit by his wings.

" Did we not see the same thing? If I recall correctly she ran from me, far away if she's smart."

You opened your mouth to try and reason with him but he shook his head.

"Save your breath my dear, your words of comfort are empty gestures at best."

Your hands dropped to your sides and you took a step back, eyes down cast.

"I'll go out and get you something to kill the pain."

Lucifer sighed, turning to apologize for his rudeness but you were already gone. He frowned a little, there was never any flutter of wings, or even a gust of wind when you left, you simply vanished, as if you'd never been there in the first place.

You lingered longer then necessary by the store, trying to think of the best way to get through to Lucifer. You knew he was hurting, knew how much that human woman had meant to him, he'd always rattle on about her when you came to visit.

You chose to walk back to his penthouse, although wanting to be there for him, you weren't exactly eager to deal with his unwarranted anger towards you. In fact when you did finally return you silently prayed that maybe, just maybe the elevator would stall.

"Lucifer, I got you some good stuff! I'm not sure what it is but the guy on the street said it'll help with the pain!" You held up the little bottle rattling it a bit.

"He also said you might hear colors so maybe just take half of one..." You mumbled.

When you received no response you looked up from the odd pills. Lucifer was gone, leaving a mess of feathers and dried blood where he sat before.

"Lucifer?"

A worn looking book slid across the floor, hitting your foot as it stopped. You frowned, looking towards the library where Lucifer stood, leaning against the door with his arms crossed.

"You see, I've been very curious about you lately, so I did a little digging. Interesting read there my dear, a bit old but very informative."

You sat the pills on the piano, bending down to pick up the dusty old book. As your eyes skimmed the old, and probably forgotten, language on the page the color slowly drained from your face.

"Oh..."

It was the only thing you could think to say.

"Oh indeed, who would've known my father had himself a little side project before he created the universe, or should I say our father? Just how long have you been pretending to be my friend? Spying on me for that old bastard."

You closed the book, slowly setting it down. You had no words, what where you supposed to say to him?

"Father was a very busy bee wasn't he? I'd call you the first angel but you're not quiet an angel are you? An interesting little experiment Father made to be the perfect little soldier for him."

You stood there silently, waiting to see if he was finished with his rant.

"Are you done? Good."

His shocked expression when you slapped him almost made you feel bad, but you were seeing red and you were angry.

"I know you're angry, and I know you're hurting. I know you're looking for a way to distract yourself from your pain, but I'm not going to be the lightning rod for your anger."

Lucifer took a catious step back when you approached him fury in your eyes.

"Yes, I'm your sister, half sister if you want to be technical, and since we're on that topic I hate your mother. But let me make one thing perfectly clear, I am not anything to God, he disowned me, he tried to earse me from existence, I am a failure in his eyes. I'm not spying on you for him, I'm not his little anything, what I am is a sister, worried about her brother."

"Y/N-" Lucifer began but you weren't finished.

"I don't have to be here Lucifer. I don't have to care. I don't have to be here for you right now, I can leave you, , to wallow in your misery." You warned.

"Then why don't you?" He challenged.

You sighed, shoulders dropping.

"I guess I'm kinda fond of you, you're the only one in our family who's treated me with any sort of respect, like I wasn't less then you."

Lucifer stared at you a moment before clearing his throat. He looked away, almost ashamed as he realized how unfair he was being to you.

"Yes... well I suppose perhaps I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions."

You smiled, shrugging a little.

"You needed the distraction, but distractions are temporary Lucifer, you'll have to face it eventually."

"And what if I can't?"

You had wandered towards the bar, pouring both him and yourself a drink, handing him the extra glass.

"Then you have me, we'll figure this out Luci, you just need to trust me."

You held up your glass and he smiled a little, tapping his own glass against yours.

"You haven't really given me a reason not too."

"Exactly, now let's get you the girl."
