"Lucifer!"

Lucifer stopped walking, looking around for a moment until he saw you on the other side of the street. You waited patiently for the light to change before jogging across the street.

"I'm beginning to think you may be stalking me darling." He teased.

"Of course I am, someone has to keep an eye on you." You joked.

Lucifer smiled until he saw the hospital bracelet on your wrist. You noticed his smile fall and followed his gaze.

"Just a doctor's appointment." You assured him.

Your smile didn't falter and he nodded slowly.

"Did you just finish that case with Chloe?"

He knew you were trying to change the subject but chose to ignore that.

"Yes, the butler did it, rather mundane and cliche if you ask me. I believe your sister figured it out before me though." Lucifer waved a hand dismissively.

Chloe was your older sister, by only a few years, but was still viciously protective of you. You had always been...less than healthy, for a lack of better wording, and as such Chloe tended to be a little overbearing at times. You loved her regardless and it never bothered you much. You and Lucifer walked side by side, you weren't really sure where you going, just following him.

"Isn't it always the butler? I'm sure you've seen a lot of things during your centuries roaming earth." You laughed.

When Lucifer first told you he was the devil, it wasn't like he was keeping it a secret, your reaction hadn't been exactly what he expected. You didn't laugh and roll your eyes, you didn't call him crazy or brush him off. You simply said and left it at that. You didn't disagree and you didn't try to disprove it, you merely accepted it as truth. After that Lucifer had grown very close to you and you to him.

"How did the appointment go then my dear? Good news?"

Lucifer watched your reaction carefully, noting the subtle way your shoulders sagged a little. If he blinked he would have missed it, you were back to smiling within a few seconds.

"Yeah, like I said just a routine check up is all." You shrugged.

"Trying to lie to the devil? You even thought it might work, honesty darling, the !" Lucifer feigned shock and you rolled your eyes playfully shoving him.

Your phone chimed, and you glanced down at it. Your fingers tapped at the screen for a few moments before you looked back up at Lucifer.

"Chloe just invited me over for dinner, but I'll see you tomorrow Luc." You said.

He was about to reply when you suddenly tugged on his shirt. He stood there in stunned silence when you gave him a quick peck on the lips and started walking away. Lucifer was still processing what just happened when he heard your voice again.

"I got tired of waiting for you to do it you idiot!" You called over your shoulder.

~

"Lucifer!"

There was your voice again, saying his name in a way that made him want to smile. He turned to face you as you walk down the stairs of Lux. Your smile faltered when you saw Lucifer's disheveled appearance.

"Are you drunk?"

He laughed and lifted his empty glass in the air slightly.

"No, that pesky supernatural metabolism of mine tends to get in the way. Doesn't stop me for trying though, care to join me my dear?"

You pulled the bottle away from him, and he sighed walking around the bar to grab another one. You grabbed that one from his hands as well, flashing him a cheeky smile when he glared at you.

"Are you going to do that every time?" He growled in what he hoped was a menacing manner.

You didn't blink, your smile remained.

"Yes."

Lucifer sighed and walked out from behind the bar.

"Now isn't a good time love, maybe come back next week?"

Your eyes followed him as he stumbled over to the piano.

"It's been a Lucifer you haven't responded to Chloe's calls, haven't talked to me. Did I make things weird?"

He turned his head to look at you, staring at you in disbelief.

"No, of course not."

You leaned on the piano crossing your arms.

"But?"

Lucifer scoffed mindlessly playing a few keys.

"I didn't realize there was a but, to that response."

"I could tell by how your voice sounded Luci, so out with it."

He was silent, and you had almost begun to think he wouldn't answer you.

", you don't want to be with me, not really, I'm a monster Y/N."

It wasn't often that you got angry or even upset with him but that comment struck a nerve with you for some reason.

"I don't think you're a monster Lucifer I never have."

Lucifer stood, walking over to the bar, grabbing a bottle yet again, this time, however you didn't stop him.

"I'm the devil, darling, it comes with the title, the man responsible for humanity's sins and troubles."

His back was to you and you slammed a hand down on the bar, making him turn to face you with surprise.

"Fuck them, you aren't responsible for shit, that's on them, you aren't a monster Lucifer, so what if you're the devil, it doesn't make you evil!"

You didn't tend to raise your voice at him, and the fact that you did just now stunned him. That didn't last long though, he glared at you and your eyes widened when his face contorted into something terrifying. You stood there, unable to form any words.

"I told you I was the devil, did you not truly believe me? Perhaps you're seeing me for the monsters I am now?"

His voice was cold and you stared at him with an unreadable expression. He wasn't expecting you to grab his shirt to pull him into a kiss. You didn't hesitate, didn't hold back, there was no disgust when you kissed him. You pulled back to look at him, smiling as you fixed his shirt.

"I always believed you were the devil Luc, I just didn't care."

When your eyes met his, he saw nothing but that usual warmness in them. You looked at him with the same love and fascination you always had.

It hadn't been long after that night that he had finally asked you out properly. No one had been surprised, Dan had even lost a bet to Maze over it. Everything had been going good, your life was perfect to you, but nothing lasted forever. Your heart got worse, and your hospital visits became more frequent. Lucifer fussed over you constantly, which normally ended with you playfully scolding him about smothering you. Today was no different.

"I'm fine Lucifer! I haven't had any chest pain in weeks." You laughed as he ushered you to the couch.

He gave you a look that said he didn't believe you.

"Humor me darling." He insisted.

You sighed, but picked up your phone to schedule a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. Lucifer smiled victoriously and walked into his study while you dialed the number. People often say when everything is going good, life throws you a curve ball.

Your chest had started to hurt, and so, you sat, breathing heavily as you waited for the pain to pass, like it normally did. Except this time, it didn't, it only grew worse. You wanted to call out to Lucifer, but you couldn't seem to get your voice to work. Your vision started to fade to black, and your head spun. You collapsed to the ground, your body slowly relaxing as you felt your heartbeat slowing. Then you felt nothing.

You never felt Lucifer, checking you for a pulse. Never felt the EMT trying to shock your heart into beating again. Never felt yourself laying in the coffin. Didn't hear the people mourning for you, or Lucifer kissing your forehead with tears in his eyes. You didn't feel it when they lowered you into the ground, and filled the hole.

Lucifer walked through the brimstone pillars of hell. Occasionally he'd stop for a moment and stare at new doors that weren't there before. One door in particular however caught his attention, it certainly wasn't there five years ago. He couldn't help himself, and walked through the door. He was surprised to find no one there but even more surprised to find it looked exactly like his penthouse.

"Lucifer."

His heart felt as though it stopped, and he stood frozen for a moment. That was your voice, saying his name just like you use to, as if you hadn't been dead for a year. He slowly turned around, to find you leaning against the bar, two glasses in front of you.

"You're late." You smiled.

He couldn't think of anything to say, couldn't understand what you were doing in Hell or why you weren't in a hell loop. You seemed to catch on to what he was thinking and held the drink out for him to take. He slowly walked over to you, accepting it.

"Heaven didn't want me, I think your dad frowned upon on our relationship." You shrugged.

Lucifer seemed to find his voice, and he stared at you as if you would disappear if he looked away.

"And Hell?"

"Well there was only one place left for me to go, but hell can't punish me because I wasn't really guilty, so it's kinda like purgatory in a way."

Lucifer smirked, and you raised an eyebrow.

"And your personal little room in hell happens to be my penthouse?"

You only smiled and walked around the bar to stand in front of him.

"I can't explain that one, but I'm not complaining."

Lucifer moved closer to you.

"You do realize this means you are stuck with me for eternity now my dear, I do hope you don't tire of me, forever is an awfully long time."

You held your glass out, clinking it against his own.

"To eternity then."

Lucifer pulled you to him making you laugh a little. You had waited so long for him to hold you in his arms again.
