chapter five I need grand children

Adrian woke up late the next day as he was exhausted the previous day due to late flight issues. He had decided on the last minute to go on this business trip, so all his preparations were made in a haste.

A call came into his phone and he realized that it is his mom calling .

"Good morning mom"

"Adrian there is nothing good about this morning, for how long have I been telling you to get married and settle down? You have the money, the looks, what else are you waiting for?"

" Mom, am waiting for the right woman who can move my heart".

"I know who you are better than you know yourself, don't tell me you are still hanging your hope on that lost princess of yours? That girls is bad news, she is a jinx".

" No mom, I will not allow you to talk about Eve in that manner", he became agitated.

" Oh, so that's the name. Eve..... really? It's not the latest news anymore"

"That what?"

" She led Adam astray, of course she has led you astray already. That girl is not a good one. Stop hanging your hope on her perhaps she is married with kids by now. She never loved you else she would have looked for you. It's been six years already Adrian, don't you get it? It won't work between the two of you, get married Adrian. I need grandchildren ok".

"Just stop it mom, stop it", he breathed heavily as the words echoed in his mind. "she never loved you else she would have looked for you, it's been six years already".

He broke down and sobbed, could Eve have done it on purpose? Of course why won't she do it? I was the delivery guy by then, did all sort of odd jobs just to make ends meet while she was the top dog.

Well, I guess the feelings were not mutual. ishe has succeeded in making me waste six years of my life. That's it then? Fine.

He opened his laptop and tried to find his way to the nearest shopping mall in town through the Google map. He needed some necessities like new towel and some new clothes. He took a shower, dressed up in a simple shirt and trouser and hired a cab to take him around the town because he needed to keep a low profile.

Eve had dressed up the two kids as she wants to get some groceries from the 24hrs convenient store. Their nanny had called in sick so she had no choice than to take them along with her.

Eve went through the fresh items section while the kids waited for her at the reception. She carefully selected the fresh items as she rolled the trolley, Eve had to hurry up as she couldn't trust the kids staying together without having to fight.

"Mark, I need to use the restroom. I want to ease myself".

"Wait for mom to come back, you are so troublesome".

"Mom will take sometime before she comes back and I would have wet my clothes by then", she pouted and started throwing tantrum.

"Fine , you win. Let's go", rolling his eyes at her childish behavior.

"Thank you Mark", she grinned while the later snorted in reply.

Mia jogged towards the direction of the restroom and soon bumped into a tall handsome man.

"Can't you use your eyes for once?", Mark scolded her.

"Uncle I am sorry", Mia apologized in her baby voice.

"It's ok, it's not her fault", he crouched down and observed the chubby little princess.

Mia was already smitten by him, Adrian smiled as he recognized that fan girl stare by Mia.

"Hello am Mia", she stretched her right hand for a handshake.

Adrian chuckled at her adult like behavior despite being a child.

"Am Adrian, Adrian Robert"

It immediately clicked in Mark's memory that he had at a certain time seen his photograph in his mom's wallet, what's the connection between him and his mom's?

"Hey I got to go now, see you around", he dropped his business card with Mia and bounced off.

"That uncle is so cool and handsome. I wish he was my Dad", looked at his direction with beaded eyes.

Mark rolled his eyes at her stupidity, "That uncle may be another person's dad for goodness sake wake up Mia"

"Really? Can't he be our Dad too? Mom can pay him", she panicked and tugged at her little gown.

Mark's heart ache for his little sister, ever since they could talk and walk they have never seen or addressed anyone as a father before.

Mia pouted and her eyes turned red.

"Where did you two go to? I was scared and worried", she looked scared.

She got a glimpse of the figure that just left and thought she was dreaming? Can that be true?

"Who is that man?" She pointed at the direction.

"Ummmh, he is just a passer by. He used the restroom", Mark replied on the sister's behalf.

"Did he say anything to you?"

"Mom, you are looking scared, who is that man? Why are you sounding so worried?"

"Did I sound worried and scared?" She wiped her face.

" You should have seen your face just now"

This kid has a sharp tongue, fine she gave herself away. She should try and be composed next time and stop sprouting nonsense.

"Ok, I have work tomorrow morning. Let's go, I ain done with my shopping".

"Mom, what about the doll I asked you to buy for me?"

" Mia, you have to understand that mom doesn't have the money now. When I have it probably soon, I will buy it for you"

" Then get my daddy to buy it for me including that princess ball gown".

Eve choked, Dad? She had never heard them mention the word dad ever since she cooked up a fairytale for them about the dad going on a business trip and will soon return.

What got into her this morning? Mia had always been a sweet and sensible child. She then turned to face Mark who looked nonchalant as his gaze seemed to say, you have to fix this issue.

Eve was tongue tied, she tried to find words to explain to the little girl whose face had gone red, she was still throwing a tantrum when Mark gave her a signal they both understand.

She immediately wiped her tears and followed the mom home.

What just happened? Eve kept wondering about their strange expressions and attitude. they seemed to be in synch with each other.

Theses two kids were like water and oil, they would never mix with each other.

At home after dinner, they both pretended to do their homework while urging the mom not to care about them. The mom took that liberty to rest because she looked so worn out.

They both sat infront of the computer and typed in his phone number and then dail it.

Adrian has just finish attending an online conference when another video call request popped up and he accepted.

Mia's fresh and beautiful face came up while the brother's aloof and handsome profile showed too.

"Mia, how are you?"

"Good evening uncle Adrian", she chirped and her eyes crinkled in excitement.

"Evening Mia"

"Uncle Adrian, can I call you handsome uncle?"

Mark looked at her in disdain, who was this person that loved and wanted Trent to be their dad? This girl is too superficial, Trent has been kicked to the curb when she found someone more good looking than him. Enh! He kind of enjoyed this Adrian guy's company compared to that perverted Trent guy.

Adrian liked the little girl's carefree aura and felt an unexplainable connection to the two siblings. He chuckled at the little girl's playful antics.

"Sue, why not"

"Yeah, thank you uncle handsome"

Adrian laughed wholeheartedly for the first time in the last few days.

Mark shook his head internally, she can see imaginary hearts shooting out of this girl's eyes.

"Can I say hello to your parents?"

"No, we only have a mother, no father but she is sleeping right now as we speak", he looked defensive and all. Why Is this young boy treating him like an enemy?" Adrian laughed internally.

It's not as if he would lower his status to chase after a single mother of two. At least he is yet to be over Evelyn's betrayal, one Eve is enough.

Mia looked at the brother and felt like this is the first time he has made a mistake, she had always looked up to him and regarded him as a semi god. She fidgeted as she was didn't know how to secretly bring the mom and this uncle handsome together.

The brother gave her a look which says that she should calm down and that they would discuss it later. Adrian as a shrew business man with his hawk like eyes he could see through what was happening.

"Uncle Adrian, we are kids so we will be going to bed now"

As if you are behaving like a kid. This boy looks interesting and the girl is fun to be with. He must commend the mother on the upbringing she gave them.

Wow wow wow, hold your horses boy. The girl looked reluctant to leave but Adrian was an adult and did not want to make things difficult for the brother so he assured her that they would communicate the next day by the same time.

Only then did she waved back with glee as the computer screen turned dark. She pouted and stamped her feet in anger as she head towards her bedroom.
