"And what makes you think you are in the wrong room?" Raymond sat on the other seat and crossed his right leg over his left, looking at Sophie with an indifferent gaze.
Sophie was left speechless. Just how do you expect me to reply to that? I wanna go home!!
"Well, I don't think that Mr. Raymond would need a matchmaking program to find a wife, so you might be here to discuss business with someone?" Sophie said as she looked up at Raymond's face. She did not raise her head, so the sight of her looking up in such a way suddenly felt inviting to Raymond. He wanted to pinch her cheeks but held himself back.
"What's your number?" He asked. His emotions were masked by his auto indifference.
Sophie was confused. Number? What number?
Seeing Sophie's blank eyes, Raymond felt like facepalming. As expected, this woman is as unreliable as always.
"I mean the number the receptionist gave you" He muffled in annoyance.
Sophie finally seemed to have been enlightened "Oh! I am number 25, I….." she stopped speaking all of a sudden as she looked at Raymond's expressionless face. How did he know about the number?
Her eyes suddenly widened in shock. Was he really here for this? How is that possible? He could easily get a crowd of girls that would fill two cities if he announced that he was looking for a wife. Why come here instead?
Raymond on the other hand casually rested his head on his knuckles and glanced around the room before shifting his gaze back to her.
"Take a seat"
Sophie did not dare resist as she felt like her body followed his every word on its own, she moved back to the seat and sat with a straight back, her front facing him but she did not dare look at his eyes. Instead, her eyes were roaming his perfectly chiseled face and sexy lips that were enough to drive any woman crazy; she was not an exception as her body wanted to kiss those seductive lips so badly but she did not have the courage to make such a move.
'I was really matched with him! My God! I got such a handsome and wealthy husband. The CEO of New Tech, my ex-boss, I'm going to be his wife! What luck!'
Sophie's thoughts ran amuck in her head. She did not even realize that Raymond's face had turned gloomy. He had been talking to her since she started her frenzied thinking so she was unable to reply, making it seem like she was ignoring him.
Tuck!
"Ouch!" Sophie yelped and held her hurting forehead.
Raymond retracted his hand. He had just flicked her forehead to bring her thought back to the present but he made sure to not hit her hard, he did not want her to turn more clumsy than she already was due to him damaging her brain unintentionally.
Sophie stared at her soon-to-be husband with teary eyes. Wasn't their first meeting supposed to be romantic? How did it end up with him flicking her head? But she did not say a word, lest he left her alone due to her annoying him; where would she find another rich and handsome husband like him?
"Tell me, why are you here?" Sophie was so brave that she had actually asked the ice cube in front of her such a question.
Raymond raised a brow and looked at her in confusion. Did he really damage her brain just now?
Sophie pouted when she saw the obvious stare Raymond was giving her. I'm not stupid, okay?
"I mean, why did you come here? You can easily get any girl of your choice with your status, so why come to such a place?" Sophie blinked at him with innocence brimming in her eyes.
Raymond did not reply, he was in thought. He could not tell her about 'that' right? Certainly not.
"You are not qualified to know yet, and I don't owe you an explanation for such a matter, do I? Whatever I do is none of your concern, or are you thinking of monitoring me already?" His words sounded like he was mocking her or teasing her, but one could see the seriousness and coldness in his eyes.
Sophie's body shivered. Talking to this man was as scary as ever. 'Why was he acting like I stole something from him?' she thought.
"You, tell me. Why are you here?" Raymond shot her own question back at her.
Her first instinct was to reply with the same words he had used to reply to her question earlier but she refrained from doing such. She still remembered how cold he was just now, so she did not want to make him angry by any chance.
'Annoy him, he might leave
That was her current theme.
She was about to say the reason she was there but paused again. Thinking about it, normal matchmaking should not be like this. They were supposed to get to know each other and then decide if they wanted to keep the relationship, but neither of them had raised any of the important matters since they met.
"Do…do you accept this?" Sophie asks weakly with her head buried low.
Raymond's patience was on the verge of running out. Was her brain really not damaged?
"Accept what?" He grunted.
"Do you accept this matchmaking? Do you accept me?" Sophie suddenly raised her head, her eyes were watery like she was on the verge of bursting into tears.
Raymond finally realized what she meant. Neither of them had touched this matter and had instead been chatting about random stuff.
He looked at Sophie's eyes, those eyes seemed to shield tears that had been suppressed from flowing. One glance and one would even feel the depth of her sadness and longing for comfort.
No man would be able to resist such a sight of Sophie's glistening eyes and pretty face. But unfortunately, Raymond was a different matter.
"Don't think too much about it, I accept the matchmaking, that's what you should be concerned about" Raymond said still yet with his usual indifference and stern voice.
Sophie still let out a smile even though he said he was accepting her because of the match, it was still enough for her; she would work her way to his heart sooner or later.
"Now tell me why you decided to come here?" Raymond demanded.
He believed that although she was not the most beautiful woman he had seen, getting a boyfriend would not be too difficult for her.
Sophie did not hesitate this time and told him everything, about her breakup, with Felix, and the bet she had with Amanda. She told everything in great detail.
Raymond's red eyes flashed and a frown knitted his thick eyebrows together but his face quickly returned to normal like his previous expression was just a moving mask that flashed by.
He did not say anything but he guessed that maybe part of her being her was his fault. If he had not fired her, maybe she would not be here.
Thinking about it, Raymond concluded that Sophie was not simple, she might not know but Raymond already did. Not counting Nero, this would probably be the longest conversation he had been involved in since he could remember.
Still, knowing this fact did not cause any change to his emotions.
"So. You came here for love?" He said with a deep voice.
Sophie nodded with a smile on her face.
Raymond shook his head "Then you found the wrong person" he said plainly. His expression was as stern as ever; it was impossible to know what was going through his mind.
Sophie blinked in confusion "What do you mean?"
"I don't do love. I accept this relationship like every other relationship but love….is not included" Raymond said coldly.
Sophie was baffled by his words. Was this one of those contracted relationships she had read about? Was he entering a relationship because he is being pressured?
"Why?" Was the only thing she could say as all other words suddenly seemed to have disappeared from her head.
"Because I can't fall in love, it's that simple," Raymond said plainly.
Sophie's eyes flashed and a smile crept up her lips.
'So that's why? Just wait, I will be the one to make you'
She said inwardly.
