The Next Move
No one talked at breakfast and I think part of it was from fear that it's got out that they mated at least once last night or in Damien and Ruby's case searched through my' things. As for me I'd read the report from the field team and it wasn't good. Now it wasn't bad but that still doesn't help what had to come next.
Now after breakfast Ray was getting ready to make the run into town when I got up from my desk and motioned for everyone to gather around including Ray.
"So the field team sent me the report on their findings last night. Now unfortunately they didn't find enough to keep the campus in lock down nor for me to keep you all here." I explain. "So in a little bit we will all load up and head into town. After that you'll return to your normal day to day lives with a few exceptions."
"First Jill and Ruby will head to the police station and finish their certifications to conceal carry a handgun. As for Dani she will wear a bullet proof vest at all times." I continue, "If you want to try for a gun permit Dani I'm willing to give you an advanced class for it."
"I'd rather not have a gun nor the bulletproof vest." confessed Damien looking a bit scared.
"Not to mention sir the department doesn't have an vest to spare." replied Ray.
"Mine should fit her fine and there will be no arguing about it." I demanded!
"Yes sir." sighed Ray as the others just stood nervously wait our next move.
"Good Dani come with me and I'll get you that vest Ruby can stay here and wait for us while the rest of you go with Detective O'Hare and return to campus." I order before leading the way to my room.
Once inside I head to the closet to retrieve my police issue bulletproof vest for Damien and get some answer out of him and why he's hiding who he really is?
"Lt. Squirrel sir you don't have to give up your vest for me." calmly and slightly nervously called Damien from the door way to my room.
"As an officer of the law it's my duty to keep you safe even if you want to hide the truth from me Dani or whatever you real name is." I reply once I'd heard the front door close leaving only me, Damien and Ruby in the cabin.
"What do you mean sir?" asked Damien worried and scared.
"Just take your shirt off and put this on." I order handing him the vest.
"Marcus you can just order a lady to undress in front of you." scolded Ruby only for me to shoot her a glare that told her I wasn't in the mood for games.
"I'm not making him undress completely just take his shirt off so it's not like he's showing me anything he wouldn't show at the beach." I scolded with my paws on my hips after Damien took the vest from me.
"This isn't a beach and..." started Ruby only to pause as the rest of what I said clicked. "Wait did you say he?"
"Yes. I know Dani isn't a girl." I replied with a smile.
"How long have you known I was a guy?" bashfully asked Damien as he started to take off his shirt.
"I should've known you would've realized after the DNA test." sighed Ruby, "I was stupid to think I could still fool you after that."
"Not really I'm a ballistics expert not a DNA specialist like you so you had no reason for me to believe that I could tell from his DNA that he was a boy." I explain as I go to help Damien put on the bulletproof vest only for him to pull away. "It only confirmed my theory that he was a he."
"So when did you first figure it out. Damien never came by except for that one visit and well that's when the DNA test was done?" confusingly asked Ruby as she scratched her head.
"Damien, I like that, its a beautiful name. As for your question Ruby, when he first walked in he was beautiful and though he was your roommate and pretending to be a girl which fit seeing as your university doesn't allow co-ed dorms it had me puzzled at why his scent was that of a man." I explained again offering my help to the still trifling Damien who this time allowed me to help him. "That's when I offered to show him how we test a gun. I purposefully got into a position that would allow me to press my sheath against his ass and when I placed my paw on his belly to check his breathing so he didn't hit a gas line he jumped and when he did I felt the tip of his penis brush my paw."
"So you knew the whole time and still wanted a date with him? Is that because you're..." started Ruby struggling to get the words out.
"Gay? No I think of it more as being Bi. Like I told you I think you're a lovely lady Ruby and I'd date you in a heart beat but I'm trying to clean up the department and can't break one of the rules I'm trying to fix." I explain, "As for asking you to set me and Damien up that was a test of my own to see if you liked me and since you were trying to play that he was a she I wanted to let you know that I'm open to the option of there being an us someday."
Just then as I fixed the last strap in place on the bulletproof vest I found our muzzles close together and couldn't help myself as I bridged the gap and gave him a kiss. To this Damien stumbled backwards into Ruby and I sighed before tossing him his shirt back. I then pushed past them.
"Sorry kid I thought there might've been something there. When you get back to the dorm Ruby can help you with the vest before and after showers." I called as I stepped outside my room and headed for the car.
"He kissed me." half shocked half excitedly replied Damien as he struggled to find the right way to put his shirt on.
"Yah I noticed." sighed Ruby as she looked at her feet.
"Hay Ruby he likes you too. It's just the rules." replied Damien trying to encourage her before he got a lightbulb moment once he finally got the shirt in correctly. "Why don't we study and find a way for him to date you without breaking the rule?"
"Why you and him can date no problem." sighed Ruby starting to walk away before Damien found himself stepping in the way and boldly placing his paws on her shoulders.
"One I fucked up. He kissed me and I pushed him away. Every time he gets close to me I still get scared and push him away." scolded Damien, "So I've more then likely thrown my chances out the window and ran them over with a bus. Second I'm training to be a lawyer I may find myself on the opposite side of the court room as him how well do you think that will work in the bedroom."
"Wow, who are you and what did you do with my little timid Damien?" teased Ruby as a smile began to form on her face.
"He grew up a little from hanging around Mya too long." joked Damien.
The two of them left the house laughing and joking while I waited in the front seat of the car. I motioned for them to sit in the back once more before pulling out of the driveway. Unlike the trip here I remained quiet while they talked a little but after a while they too fell silent and no one talked the whole way back to the campus.
Once arriving at campus Ray was kissing Jill good-bye while Mya and Mia where waiting for us but once we pulled up and the two of them got out without a word all the joy left the group. Ray wasn't happy that his sister looked hurt and was about to say something only for me to drive off once Damien and Ruby has gotten out and shut the door.
Not really wanting to go back home because of the thoughts of both my crushes sleeping in my bed last night only angered me more so I figured I best blow off some steam at the gun range. It didn't take long for me to make it to the police gun range and check in. I grabbed my service pistol and set it on the rail before taking a few breaths and unloading a full clip into the target's head.
"What your date with the college girls not go to Well last night?" mocked the captain of my precinct as he and those with him fired off a few rounds into my target. Now they used their personal handguns and not their service ones for some reason.
"It was a protection detail and if you don't mind I have some practice to get in before returning to the pile of your closed cases that I need to solve because you all have failed to." I snap which causes them to cuse a little before leaving.
Now when I'd finished a second clip something in my gut told me to pull the rounds from the wall and test them. It would give me something to do, what twenty-eight from my gun, six from each of theirs meant an additional forty so it would be a good days, day and a half of a distraction to keep me busy and get a little more ballistics training. So I walked to the target and started pulling the rounds from the wall and even found a few extras that were from someone before me. Oh well they were all police officer rounds and shouldn't come back to anything but I can still scan and check them to look busy so as not to have to talk with Ruby for some time.
Once Johnson got in I confronted him about his visits to the lounge. "Johnson am I and this department a joke to you?"
"No sir?" replied a confused Johnson as he enters the lab.
"Then why go behind my back and do what I've strictly ordered you not to do?" I ask with my paws on my hips.
"What do you mean sir?" asked Johnson probing for a hint.
"Your continued trips to the in house lounge." I reply as he slowly walks towards me but upon hearing my reply he straightened up now full of confidence.
"Because that order is stupid and petty!" snapped Johnson getting right up in my face.
With that Brown and Smith were taking bets who'd win in a scuffle. As for Ruby she turn in her place and dashed for the elevator and to get her brother.
"Is that so? Maybe you'd like to clean out your desk and hand over your keycard." I growled back holding my ground.
"Is that an order?" teasingly and mockingly replied Johnson.
"If I find out you go to the lounge again and it will be!" I snapped getting ready to turn and head for my desk when Johnson flip me off.
"You wouldn't be doing this if it was fucking O'Hare." replied Johnson, "Do I have to suck your dick too to get out of the rules?"
"No one in this lab is above the rules and if she broke one then I'd punish her for it." I growl really tired of his attitude but he'd not yet given me a reason to fire him.
"And if I said she was there right now what would you do?" asked Johnson having noticed she wasn't here and was testing me.
"Then she'd get the same speech I'm giving you now." I scolded before looking at the others and adding "And if you lot don't get back to work you can clean out your desks as well."
Just then I turn to head back to my desk not aware Johnson had grabbed a microscope off of Ruby's workstation and was about to clock me right over the head with it. Or maybe I did know and just didn't care, but before he could go through with it there came a shout from the lab doorway, "Johnson I'd think twice before assaulting a police officer unless you want to spend a few nights in jail."
I turn to see Ruby grab the microscope from him while Ray slowly approached us. He stopped by Johnson who was frustrated and had allowed Ruby to pull the microscope from his paws and placing in back on her desk.
"If you're going to crack him over his stupid head then use your own equipment!" scolded Ruby as she straightened up her desk up.
"Johnson you best get back to work." added Ray placing a paw on Johnson's shoulder before looking around and adding, "That goes for everyone here, get some work done while me and Lt. Squirrel have a little chat."
"What's your problem detective?" I ask once we're out side of the lab and in a secluded area.
"Other then you making my sister cry?" replied Ray poking me in the chest, "I don't know what happened at your cabin after we left but you driving off and leaving my sister and Dani in the dust."
"I had work to do?" I snapped with my paws on my hips.
"And you know I had to talk Ruby out of quilting your team." sighed Ray, Just know that you better watch your tone around her because she's on the edge of leaving and know this she has two lawyers in training as friends so finding work wont be hard."
"Why should I care Johnson is on the brink of being fired, Brown and Smith keep trying to mate in the lab which has marked them for almost termination. So if Ruby leaves I have no team and might as well quit and go home." I sighed.
