The Two Guards

Ephreona's P.O.V.

I was alone in the hallway. Like really. No guard or maids was walking about. I walked ahead hoping to spot anyone because at that point I seemed to have forgotten the way to the queen's chambers.

Just when I took a right turn at the end of the hallway, I bumped into Senah and almost fell. We were thrown into fits of laughter.

"Honestly speaking sissy, I've lost my way. I was hoping to find someone to direct me to the queen's chamber until I bumped into you... ouch...my shoulder." I said and rubbed my shoulder.

"My maid was telling me the guards have been called for a minute's meeting. They'll be back soon. But my maid had shown me the way earlier, so I know the way. I came to look for you so we could go together and... tada!" Senah said.

"Sissy, I think the queen is waiting for us. We should be on our way... ouch... my shoulder is hurting. " I told her while giving her a soft smile. She only nodded her head and led the way.

Senah led me through a series of halls that were decorated with portraits of past kings I assumed because of the years that were written beneath them. One king reigned for a hundred and fifty years which was from 1800-1950.

I was confused if he had actually lived that long or if it excluded his reign. I made myself believe he lived very long and was a king from birth.

I was about to read the reign of another king when I heard a ding in front of me and realized we had reached the elevator. I hurried inside and Senah pressed a few buttons then we went up.

Guards were standing outside the door but we were denied entry because according to the guards, the queen was engaged in an important meeting and would be with us shortly.

Senah seemed in a hurry so she went to the window but I hung around and overheard two guards arguing.

"... they were spotted by the borders. I don't know why the royal family is delaying us because we should have been in hiding by this time. It is suspected that someone is helping them. We need to hide." The guard said firmly.

"No one is hiding. We need to face the battles and not run away from them. I'll not go into hiding but I pledge to expose anyone who I find suspicious or who I find is the culprit." The other guard replied with clenched fists.

Someone tapped my shoulder gently but I brushed it off. I was busy concentrating on the first guard as he turned and saw me staring at him and he growled at me. He growled at me!

This man was crazy. He whispered something to the other guard and they both walked a few meters away from earshot and continued their conversation.

Someone hit my shoulder hard this time and I turned to find Senah standing there.

"The queen is done with her meeting and we are now allowed in." She told me. We stood there waiting for the remaining guards to walk out before we went in.
