Chapter 35: Love, Blood, and Fangs

Marcus Cutler POV:

Julia had drifted off back to sleep while I held her, and her head ended up in my lap. Seeing as she enjoyed the touchy-feely type of affection, I took the opportunity to return her gestures, stroking her silky hair.

I had to smile as I gazed down at her, enjoying how peaceful she looked when she was sleeping. Though I had to remind myself that this peace might just be temporary.

As I sat there, I had to question how I got here.

Julia and I had met barely a week ago, and not only had I abandoned my life for her, but I wanted to spend the rest of whatever my new life would be with her. And the thought of that thrilled me more than I thought possible.

But that thrill came with a sadness.

I might want to spend my life with Julia, but it would only be my life.
