The key out

I wake up hoping this time it's in my room, until I feel the cold hard ground beneath me. I open my eyes seeing my burnt out campfire. I sigh, sit up, and crawl out, then stand up stretching. I walk over to the river and spear for more eel-fish. I got one on the fifth try. I cook it, eat it, then look and decide what to do today. I remember my family and friends in the real world, and realize how alone I really am. But I tell myself, crying about it won't get me anywhere. So I get up and walk around, what feels like hours of wandering. I see a wall of stone, as I get closer. I see writing on it. I run to it and look. The writing is in a language I don't understand. I place my hand on it, leaning into it when the words glow. I back up surprised and suddenly can understand what the writing says. "To escape your mind, find the key, for which you need, to escape beneath." I read it over and over until I get what it means. To escape my mind, I need the "key", but what's the key? Then the words stop glowing and everything goes back to normal, well the new normal for now. I look around, but nothing else is around. I walk back to my shelter and ponder what to do. This world is, who knows how big, with who knows what in it. In the middle of my thoughts, I hear an ear splitting noise. The same as from the creature I saw in the field. I whip my head around looking for it, or anything else that could be lurking around. Nothing, until I see something whip past a group of trees in front of me, and another to my right. I grab my spear, scared, and hold it up defensively, whipping it left and right. I hear the noise blast out from behind me and turn around backing up. I see it, the creature from the field, on top of my shelter, staring down at me with its dark, heartless eyes. It roars and jumps at me. I raise my spear and close my eyes, afraid of what's going to happen, and hear a pained shriek. I open my eyes to it laying on the ground, the end of my spear in its chest. I grasp my chest breathing heavily, trying to catch my breath. When I do, I look down at the beast, dead now, and no sign of the other one. I cut it open and cut meat out of it. I feel something hard, at first I think it's just a bone, until it falls out. I look down and it's a bronze key, the size of my palm. My eyes go wide! It's a key, the key! I pick it up, covered in blood, and go to the river and wash it. I sit back down after cutting the rest of the meat out and carrying the rest near the river for bait. Then after I sit down marveling at how simple it is, compared to the stone with the glowing words. I put it in my pocket and cook some of the meat. Then eat it, when it's cooked. I sit under the rock overhang and hold my spear close, still on edge, but eventually I fall asleep. I wake up knowing this place is my new reality. I get up and cook more of the meat from the beast that was left over. Then I find my way back to the stone wall with writing on it. I get closer and see the words have changed on it. I place my hand on the stone and the words glow once more. It now says; "With the key, you can escape, you could be free, when you unlock the gate." I ponder it for a moment, then walk back to the shelter after looking around once more. I grab my spear and make my way back to the field where this nightmare started. I keep my eye out for anything else, as I reach the end of the woods. I peer out behind a tree making sure nothing is there and see, now in the middle of the field, a door. I stare in shock, knowing that it wasn't there when I first woke up. I start to run to it, but halfway there, two of the creatures come out from the tree line. I stop dead in my tracks as they pace back and forth, growling and snapping their strong jaws at me, staring with those eyes that haunt my mind. Yet they don't come closer, as if they're guarding it. I take the opportunity and slowly back up to the trees and run back to my shelter to come up with a plan. They are too fast and strong to fight both at once, but maybe I can outsmart them. I remember the poisonous fruit plant and come up with an idea. I run to the plant and grab a bunch, set them in a pile by the fire, and spear for fish. After collecting 4, I cook them for more of a tempting smell. Then, I cut them open and stuff them full of the deadly fruits, hoping that they eat the meat and the fruit whole, poisoning them, and killing them, giving me the opportunity to escape. I grab my spear, in case the plan doesn't go as planned. I sneak back to the field and hide behind the tree. The creatures are still there, perfect. I chuck the meat at them and they land in front of them. They stare down and sniff it. After 15 seconds, I don't think it's going to work, until one eats one whole and goes for more. When the other one growls and eats one, they fight over the rest. 10 seconds later they're on the ground dead. I sprint towards the door and jump over them. I grab the key out of my pocket and fumble with it. I finally get it into the keyhole. I turn it, unlocking the door, and hear more screams, as several come bearing out from the woods. I turn around seeing them as I turn the knob, then sprinting closer, and closer. The door opens and white light blinds me, as I walk through the door. The beasts lunge at me, but not before the door closes on them. I wake up, palms sweaty, I open my eyes, I'm in a hospital bed... I'm back, for now.
