Power System

[Concepts Of Power]

1. Authorities

2. Blessings/Miracles

3. Curses/Abominations

4. Divinity

5. Spells

Authorities

These are principal abilities that no one else possesses. Anyone with authority has control over a particular aspect of reality or nature that can not be wielded by another person at the same time.

For example: Authority of Death is wielded by Lord Mors.

Humans and regular mortals can not wield authorities. Only Divine Entities or Principalities can wield Authorities.

There are 9 main Authorities

Blessings/Miracles

Blessings are granted to individuals or groups by someone who possesses Divinity. When a Blessing is used, it causes a Miracle to occur… and this can take varying forms.

For example: The Blessing of Flames can cause the Miracle of Ignition or Pyrokinesis.

Blessings are usually granted by the Pope to Holy Knights who have proven themselves, giving them supernatural abilities that allow them to stand up against evil and defeat their enemies. Blessings are also a shackle that binds those who are granted this power to the one who gives it.

Anyone who is Blessed by someone with Divinity is automatically a Vassal to the Divine giver. As a result, all Holy Knights are subservient to the Pope, and can not defy his orders no matter the circumstances.

This is also not without consequence for the one with Divinity.

Blessings can take on any form, but the more powerful the Blessing is… the more of a toll

Curses/Abominations

Whenever a Curse is used, an Abomination occurs.

The nature and functions of Curses are somewhat opposites of Blessings. Those who are granted Curses have to pay something in exchange for the power they receive, and they sometimes keep paying the price for every time they use said power. Those who have Curses do not need to be automatic vassals to those who give them this power (including the features and limitations).

However, those with Curses have to give up something in exchange for power. Still, the one who grants this power must also give up something (a portion of their own power to the one who gets the Curse) as a form of equivalent exchange.

Hence, both the giver and taker lose something.

The ones who give Curses are known as Principalities (Fallen Divine Entities).

Divinity

Divinity is the highest form of power that only belongs to Primeval Entities. Divinity can be borrowed or shared like a Blessing (with none of the side effects or conditions). This is called False Divinity. It can also be inherent to the being who has it… and that is known as True Divinity.

Very few individuals possess Divinity (and only a handful have True Divinity).

Spells

This is a craft that is performed by humans who crave power (usually Cults) through sacrificing something external—like the Souls of animals/humans or precious items in order to activate a supernatural effect or ability.

The higher the quality of the sacrifice, the more potent the cast Spell will be. Some Spells require specific sacrifices, without which they can not be activated (such as the summoning of Lord Mors), while certain Spells can be used simply by any kind of appropriate sacrifice.

Spells are usually cast by sacrificing something to the world and making requests in the form of chants/incantations.

The Ars Goetia is known as the greatest Grimoire in legends and history.

NOTE: There are still relatively strong people without any of these five types of supernatural abilities. Incredibly strong combatants are still plenty strong, but this is only through ordinary standards. Against adversaries with supernatural abilities… they usually stand no chance.
