Chapter 59

With disgust, he turned to his audience. Every eye in the compound was focused on him. “Throw her in her shed,” was all he said. He glared back at them and walked away.

No one moved for a moment. Everyone was in shock. Then Rosa rushed forward, motioning Maya to help her.

“Please, someone, help us get her down,” Rosa begged of the men.

Finally two guards stepped forward and lifted Cam high enough to release her from the hook. They let her slump into Rosa’s arms. To Rosa, Cam felt lighter than a sack of coca leaves. She waited as one of the guards removed the shackles from Cam’s wrists.

“Help me get her to the shed,” she said to Maya. They carried Cam back to the shed and laid her on her mat.

“Will she die?” Maya asked, dreading the answer.

“Not if I can help it. We need to clean her wounds before she wakes so she won’t feel the pain.” Rosa sent Maya running outside to get cloths and some water.
