Me and my Pokémon had left Misty behind no longer than 30 minutes ago when the first droplets of rain began to fall. I unconsciously smiled as I knew what that meant, running the scenes from the anime in my head if Ash and Pikachu fleeing from a horde of Spearow. It's truly impressive to manage to piss off a whole flock of Pokémon on your first day.
Shaking my head I see Charmander keeping pace beside me with a determined expression on his face, but Mankey and Slowpoke were beginning to lag behind.
"C'mon! Not much further everyone, I can see the gates of Viridian just ahead." This seemed to be enough as everyone picked up there pace and within a few minutes we were through the gates, or rather we almost were until a buxom green haired police officer in a blue uniform stopped us.
"Halt! Who goes there, and why are you forcing your Pokémon to run in the rain?" She said in a commanding tone but I found myself staring at her ridiculously short skirt. I couldn't believe she would actually wear something like, but I wasn't complaining and the sight above wasn't too bad either.
I tilted my head feeling the rain beginning to fall faster as I looked her with a strange expression.
"I'm Roman, a Pokémon trainer from Pallet, my Pokémon are undergoing training and part of training is stamina building. Though I would like to get them inside as soon as possible especially Charmander considering the rain." Her eyes darted to the panting Charmander who despite looking at the end of his ropes looked back at her with a fierce expression as if ready to fight at any time.
That is until my hand patted his head.
"Don't mind Charmander, she just a police officer. She's just making sure no suspicious people are passing through." Looking at me Charmander smiled with a nod and looked back at Officer Jenny with a more friendly expression. Behind us Slowpoke had collapsed onto his back and Mankey was placing a foot on top of him flexing his muscles with a victorious grin.
"Mankey mank!" He cried forcing me to stifle a chuckle as I pulled out my Pokédex passing it Jenny.
"Here's my ID, you can see I'm sponsored by Professor Oak's Lab." Jenny now with a faint smile as well took the dex and scanned it under some tablet looking device of her own and nodded.
"Everything seems to be in order, so you may enter. Sorry for the abrupt stop, just doing my job hehe." She responded with a slightly embarrassed chuckle at the end.
"No worries, I know you are. Thanks again Officer, but I'd like to get my Pokémon to the center before it gets too much worse out." She nodded to my words as she passed back my Pokédex.
"Jenny." She said as she walked back to her small police building.
"Huh?" I asked in confusion.
"My name is Jenny, not just Officer. Now be careful out there, there have been reports of Pokémon thieves about."I just nodded my head and when I turned away I had a confused frown on my face. I was trying to figure out why she was so adamant about her first name, but surely she couldn't be attracted to me I mean Pokémon trainers are only 10– oh that's right. I'm 18 here, and Jenny definitely didn't look any older than 25.
I'll have to keep in mind that I'm not the 10 year old beginner that I grew up watching. Everyone has been aged up in this world and they're not going to just see me as a cute kid, but an attractive adult. That means… I turn my head over my shoulder and see Officer Jenny waving at me as I pedal off and smile.
"Until next time! Jenny." I yell out with a smile and see a smile flash across her face as well. Ah, yes I think I'm definitely going to enjoy this world.
I turn my focus back ahead and pedal to the red roofed building with the image of a Pokéball above it. People were walking down the streets with umbrellas and numerous shops lined the streets. Varying from book stores, restaurants to even some gift stores. It was a lot more than we ever got to see in the show.
Families walked with their Pokémon and entered the cafe's or restaurants together and made me want to do so as well.
"Hey guys after we get you all healed up at the Pokémon Center I think I'm gonna take you to some of these stores." They looked confused but just nodded in agreement as we continued to the PC.
Entering the center I was greeted by a cheerful voice.
"Welcome to the Viridian City Pokemon Center. How may I help you?" A pink haired nurse stood across a desk in the center of the room. As I approached I took in the glances of the other Pokémon trainers filling the lobby. All of them gave at least a quick glance at me and my Pokémon while other focused intently as if they wanted to battle.
"Ah yes, I would like to get these 3 checked out. I just got them today and they went through some serious training to get here from Pallet town. Also I was wondering if there was something similar to a Pokémon spa in this town? I wanted to treat the a little after performing so well.
She peaked over the counter at them and her eyes widened, before coming around the desk to get a closer look at them.
"Hmmm, I see." She mused as she looked over each one. While she did that I was busy wiping them and myself off with a towel I pulled from my bag.
"These training weights fit them perfectly, and don't have any slack to them. I can tell you really know your stuff… er?" She trailed off so answered her quickly.
"Roman, Roman Saelle. And thank you for the kind words. Thought apparently training equipment isn't too common, as on my way here an orange haired Pokémon trainer thought I was abusing them." I said while scratching the back of my head. She just smiled and stood up from where she had been looking over Mankey.
"Yes! The stigma around weighted training is still in full swing, but you'll find that most medical personnel and top tier trainers will support. Of course as long as it's done right which you seem to have done. So will they be staying out of their Pokéballs for the treatment?" She asked while walking back behind the desk and pressing a button on the computer.
I turn to my Pokémon and pull out there Pokéballs.
"Alright guys, go with Nurse Joy and get healed up. After we'll hit one of these restaurants and get you all some food." They nodded and each pressed their respective ball and disappearing in a flash inside them.
"Thank you Nurse Joys." I said as I placed balls on the outstretched tray, she then handed it off to a Chansey that had come through the door when she had pressed the button.
"You're quite welcome Roman. It shouldn't be too long, if you'll just wait in the lobby I'll call for you when they're ready." I nodded thankfully and headed to an open seat near the corner. I pulled out my Pokédex and thanked Oak mentally as the dex had a local search function.
It brought up all the local stores, and businesses inside Viridian and my jaw dropped slightly at the sight of all the things listed. I filtered for Pokémon restaurants and found the top ones. One that caught my eye made chuckle to myself.
"Poké Power Punchy Lunchy"
It was a restaurant geared toward fighting type Pokémon and their needs and that's when I decided to change it up and walked back over to nurse Joy.
"Excuse me, Nurse Joy?"
She looked up at me with a smile.
"Yes, Roman? What can I help you with?"
"I'm not asking this like I'm in a rush, just curious. How long is healing going to take?" She nodded and looked down at her computer and after a few clicks and typing she looks back up with a smile.
"Shouldn't be any longer than 20 minutes." I smile and tap the desk softly.
"Thank you. I've just decided to go pick up my Pokémon's food as well as myself and bring it back here if that's alright." She nodded and handed me folder and smiled when I looked at her confused.
"This folder has coupons and discount codes to all the local shops. Most have local codes that people foreign to the city wouldn't know, so this should help you save a little."
I graciously took the folder and tucked it into my backpack.
"Thank you Nurse Joy. I'll be back soon for my Pokémon" I said with a wave as I hurried out the Center.
