3: Hundred Twenty Seconds

When I woke up I found myself in the station infirmary. I wasn't sure how the hell did I get there and why my right arm was all bandaged up. The nurse in the infirmary came in, smiling at me, she slowly explained what happened. Apparently, the old steel shelf fell over me and almost broke my arm. I was lucky enough to be alive only with a "suspected fractured arm", she said; truth be told I can't believe what the nurse was saying, I mean it was impossible. I know that the shelves were old but it was impossible for a shelf purely made out of steel without any reason to just topple over without any force being exerted upon it. I was deep in thought when Chris walked in to see how I'm doing. "I told Michelle", those were the three words that he used to greet me with. Despite not seeing my reflection, I knew I turned pale upon hearing that name.

"Wha-what? Why?" I blurted out, looking at my best friend in disbelief.

"She'd be wanting to know about this, you know that right?" said Chris, I simply nodded in return. Michelle was someone I used to go out with but the relationship didn't work out the way we wanted, we're too different.

"She says she'll give you a ride to the hospital, I think it's best for you too", Chris said, I held my tongue. I didn't want to say anything, Chris was an avid supporter of that previous relationship.

Ten minutes later the nurse had to shoo away my talkative friend out of the infirmary and told me to wait for Michelle to take me to the hospital so that I may be properly examined. She advised me to sleep until my ex arrives, I smiled and gave her my thanks.

There was a cool feeling touching my skin and it felt like I'm sleeping in a very soft feather bed, I looked beside me and saw a person sitting beside me. I couldn't see her face for it was too bright, however, she was seems to be clad in an airy white garment, and she had long wavy locks of hair flowing down her face. I can feel her eyes, looking at me, I knew they gave a tender look and slowly I felt something touch my forehead, "Goodness Robin, we can't keep on like this, I can't always protect you, especially now; my agreement with Him is to protect you only until you have decided to take on the task...you have to fend off for yourself now, but I'll be seeing you."

I felt her lips touch my forehead, I closed my eyes and when I opened them i was back in my infirmary bed and standing over me was my ex, Michelle.

Michelle was as beautiful as ever with her medium cut hair, slender body, perfect light makeup and bright eyes, yes, this was the girl I fell head over heels for. She greeted me as I looked at her for a few seconds before I greeted back. "You don't seem to be needing me at all", she teased, I was actually thinking the same thing but I bit my tongue, I just smiled. It was I who ended the relationship and she's trying her best to rekindle whatever it is we had but it was impossible, I fell out of love when she began to forget.

"Your grandfather told me to take you straight home after the doctor checked your arm", she said while I was in her car on the way to the hospital.

"Look, thanks so much, I appreciate this but I hope you understand that we both have to move on. This isn't healthy", I told her as I felt my arm ached a bit, seeming to ache at my very statement.

"I know, I just want to talk to you about something", Michelle said as we arrived at a stop light, we had one hundred twenty seconds. "I'm leaving next week for Canada. My dad asked me if I'm sure." she said while she pretended to stare at the red light.

I turned my head and looked at her, she felt my stare and slowly looked back at me with expectant eyes, "Sure of what?" I finally asked.

"Sure that I have nothing to leave behind", she replied.

She wants me to stop her but I didn't find it in me to say it. I couldn't and it was a cruel thing to make her wait for a love that will never be requited.

"Don't worry, there won't be", I said to her as I saw that her eyes started to get watery.

"I figured", she said putting her foot on the gas and returning her gaze on the road. Our hundred and twenty seconds were over.

This is by far my favorite chapter... I hope you enjoy it too
