A Purpose

Chapter 16: Purpose

I woke up from my bed with wet cheeks and realised I've been crying all night.

The room was kinda dark and the only light coming from was by the window beyond the curtains that's caused by the moonlight.

Didn't I just read the book? I think I must've slept over it. What time is it? Why is it still dark outside?

And why did I cry?

When attempting to wipe my wet cheeks with my blanket, my hands surprisingly felt heavy and I couldn't even lift up my fingers.

I paused for a moment.

"Let's try that again." I said in my mind and gathered myself up to stand out from my bed but my body won't cooperate.

W-what is happening?

I suddenly moaned from struggling to move out of my bed when I realised something..

I looked around and saw the door metres away from my bed.

I gasped nervously and tried to figure my way out.

Am I experiencing sleep paralysis?! Please don't tell me some weird monster will come out from that door!

I struggled even more but I ended up exhausted. I tried to open my mouth to call for Auntie when it seems I can't move them right.

A couple of minutes later while I'm trying to figure out what to do, I suddenly heard voices while approaching the door. My breath shortened nervously while I locked my eyes towards the door to see who the upcoming person was.

Whispers I heard from behind and the door finally opened as the lights had been opened.

I squinted my eyes from the bright sudden light for a minute.

"She's fast asleep." I heard a lady's voice whisper from my right side while I closed my eyes shut. I can feel my heart racing, deciding whether I will open my eyes or not.

"Oh shush, I told you she's not awake." Another lady's voice from the left side whispers. They seem to have a conversation while I'm here lying like a paralyzed frog!

And to sort it all out, It's not Auntie's voice which is rather scary. Did someone break into our house? Did Auntie get out? Or worse, the thief might have kidnapped her! I'm sure these two ladies inside my room are responsible for it! I need to act fast now!

I tried to get up from my bed and started to make moaning noises from the struggling while my eyes were closed.

"O-oh! She's already awake! What will we do?" The lady panicked.

I didn't hear the other lady answer her partner, so I felt someone carried me in their arms. Due to my surprise, I opened my eyes and a unfamiliar lady I saw In Front of me.

"Is M'lady awake?" She smiled at me warmly and I looked at her wide eyed.

"Oh, she's not crying. What trick did you do, Clara?" The other lady asked her.

That name..

The lady In Front of me chuckles lightly while she carried me on her arms.

"You just have to be calm, that's all. You don't need to panic over it." She said while her eyes on me.

I turned from my side and the lady she was talking with, wore a maidservant clothes. I looked more around the room and it's completely different from my room! T-the walls, the furniture, the lights, and my bed!

I-it's a baby crib!

W-what is happening?! Did I shrinked? How did this happen?!

"Oh, she seems curious around her. She's looking everywhere." The maid commented and walked towards us around the crib. The lady who was holding me smiled sweetly at me.

"Is Lady Geirraven hungry?" She asked me.

And there I was struck rock to bottom.

I'm in the body of the banished heir.

"Clara? Didn't you notice how the lady is so quiet today? Unlike yesterday, she was crying all day that we even called a physician for her to check her for what's wrong and now it seems she's like a curious cat, looking everywhere." Mary observed while she was folding some blankets inside the nursery room with Clara.

"Oh, I don't know Mary…I think she just misses her mother, the duchess. You know what happened that day right?" Clara answered sadly as she was preparing for my bottle of milk.

I just watched them from the crib while I lay flat on my belly.

'Well it's normal for a baby to cry nonstop yesterday! I cried because I don't know why the heck I ended up in her world! and I pretty much knew that I would have to experience her life and her tragic death!'

I clenched onto the bed sheets and bit my lower lip to prevent myself from crying but the instinct of being a baby makes me follow this emotion.

Clara rushed towards the crib and carried me in her arms to comfort me.

"Hush now..It's alright" She lullaby with her warm smile. I stopped crying and slowly calmed down as I stared at her green eyes.

Those eyes…seem familiar like I saw them from somewhere.

"You really are good at taking care of babies, Clara." Mary complimented her that I snapped back from reality and turned my head to my side to look at her.

A knock interrupted us and Mary got to the door to see who it was. As Clara puts me back down on my crib and first caresses my head before leaving me.

I turned my head to my side to watch them. Worriedness were written all over their faces while Mary and Clara are looking at each other, like they received some bad news. Mary quickly leaves the nursery room while Clara first looked at me worriedly and she hurriedly left and closed the door, leaving me alone.

That was weird..what are they up to? Did something happen outside?

I just looked up towards the ceiling and examined the baby cherubims that's drawn gracefully above. The ambiance of this room is making me sleepy. I should start planning by now and write it down in a notebook, but these baby hands won't let me grip onto something!

I always need to recall Geirraven's life to prevent that from happening. I..I just need to..

Due to the quietness, I slowly closed my eyes and drove myself to slumber.

"She's grown beautifully, Clara. How can we resist our Lady?" Mary complimented as she was looking at me with her sweetest smile. Clara took me outside of the mansion for me to get some ray of sunlight, about 7 in the morning.

They dressed me up like a doll when they took me to the Duchy's garden. Time sure flies by and I get bigger and I can crawl too. I've been trying to exercise with my hands and feets regularly when Clara and the maids are not around of course. Should I start practising holding a pen or something? So that I could write what I recalled from her life? But where could I get them? And I can't pronounce words as easily as Clara.

Anyways, the garden was peaceful and i see no servants around. It was just me, Mary and Clara, carrying me in her arms. Well, i never seen Geirraven's parents "yet" as i recall in the story. Her parents doesn't quite took interest to Geirraven, despite that the duchess doesn't have a good relationship with the duke.

Back to me as Ghilette, I never knew who my parents are..I haven't met them nor seen their faces at least. The feeling within me as Geirraven, I can feel it..I can feel her loneliness and yearning.

It's different just from reading to actually being her and it's making me sad.

So I have decided, these past few months growing up, I've been thinking of a plan to prevent Geirraven's future death and change her miserable fate. I'm not wise or skillful enough to do that but with the ability of my mindset, I can do those things and fulfil it for her.

I clenched my small fist and looked towards the blue sky.

Don't worry, I'll do the best as i can, Geirraven. Even though I still can't understand why I'm here in your world, there's a reason why you chose me to change your life. I'll make this right.

"It's getting hot a bit, we should head back inside now, M'lady or you'll get some sunburn. Your mother might scold me for not being careful." Clara said and she joked in the last part as she gave me a light kiss on my cheeks which surprised me.

"I think she's hungry, Clara." Mary giggled when she saw how surprised I was.

"Yes, she is. Now let's go and tidy you up first." And we headed back inside the mansion.
