Chapter 4

My head ached, I had fallen asleep in the sitting room after crying, Miss Susan had left, my mom too. I went to the bathroom, washed my face, combed my hair and applied a little face powder. I left the house, I had a friend living I'm the building beside ours. He's Stanley, we attended the same college, but he was 2 classes ahead of me and 3 years older than me. Stanley was the only child of his parents, stayed with his mom while his dad worked and lived in the states, only visited on holidays. Stanley's mom was a very nice woman, she loved Stanley so much, cared for him and didn't like to see him sad.

Whenever I came around, she made feel comfortable, treated me like a daughter she didn't have .

"Come in " Stanley replied to my knocks behind their entrance door, I went in, he noticed the unhappiness on my face.

"Are you okay? You have a problem with your maths? or did your mom vex you again? He really cared , he always cared.

" My mom is selling me off and I will be living tomorrow, but I don't wanna leave her " twin tears rolled down my cheeks. Stanley took me by the hand and gave me a hug.

"It's alright dear, everything happens for a reason, I just hope you are going somewhere better, to people who will show you paternal love, care and attention"

I released myself "Bit I don't wanna go, I don't wanna leave her, she's the only mother I want to have, I don't wanna meet strangers".

" You know? People tend to value what they have more when they have lost it. Your mother, if she really is the one who bore you will surely moss you , she would regret her actions and would want you back, just give her some space by agreeing to leave the house ". He said wiping my tears with his palm.

" What about your mom?" I asked noticing she hadn't come out to know who had knocked.

"She left some time ago with miss Nancy to the market, come let's go to the sitting room and I will get you some snacks my mom prepared"
