How to win a devil's heart

To win a devil's heart one needs to think like the devil himself. He is deceptive and a pure manipulative player who finds pleasure in playing with one's knowledge.

To penetrate herself into a heart like Damien's, Blair must abandon her deceitful nature and for once express her true feelings.

Only a sincere gesture can make Damien bring down the walls he's built around himself.

"I promise, you won't kill me!" She whispered whilst holding his gaze.

"What an impressive one!" He thought to himself.

Still in that awkward position, all of a sudden, a melanin lady - wearing high heels and leather from head to toe - barges into the room, catching them off guard.

They both jumped and pulled away from each other, and finally stopped staring into each other's gazes.

"Ooh, what's going on here?" The lady teased.

Damien rose to his feet, "what are you doing here, Cara?"

"How are you Cara? Oh, I'm fine, thanks for asking!" She mocked sardonically.

Her attractive blue eyes landed on Blair,

"And who do we have here?"

She makes her way to Blair and helped her up,

"Is he giving you a hard time?"

"No" Blair shook her head.

"A human?... Are you?" Cara inquired.

"I guess um... I guess so!" Blair responded.

Cara is tall, slender, and alluring. She wears her hair in a long ponytail, which contrasts beautifully with her slim face.

"how are you?" Damien asked in his usual grumpy tone.

"How are you!" Cara mocked, imitating his voice.

"Oh come here you grumpy softie!" She pulled Damien into an embrace. He hugs her back.

"So how have you been?" This time he asked properly in a calm concerned tone.

"I'm good!" She responded, pulling away.

She jerks her head in Blair's direction, "so who is this angel?"

Damien shoots a quick glance at Blair, then turn to face Cara, "Her name is Blair, someone is chasing her. She needs my... I mean our protection!."

"Oh is that right?" Cara turned towards Blair, "you must be going through a lot!"

"It's nothing!" Blair said in a dismissive tone.

Cara smiles, "Oh drop the formalities, as long as you are here, you are family. And we always put family first!"

A velvety awareness washed down Blair's heart at Cara's kind words. She couldn't help but chuckle softly.

"So, are you a couple?" Blair asks curiously.

"A couple?" Cara laughed, "me and him? Damien cold?"

She glance at him and burst into another feats of laughter, "oh that's really funny. I like this one!"

She pat him on the shoulder and sailed out of the room.

It was time for lunch. Damien, Cara, Blair, and another guy called Zion settle around the dining table. Food was served and they are all digging into their delicious meals.

Damien lives in a huge mansion, an even bigger one compared to Blair's.

"So, when are we going in?" Zion asks mouthful.

"Can you please talk after you finish chewing what's in your mouth!" Cara hissed.

"Those bloodsuckers will escape if they hear a whim about this!" Zion continued.

"The three of us can take out a bunch of young rogue new bloods." Cara bragged.

"Speaking of which, you think it's okay discussing all this with her around?" Zion asks, glaring his hazel eyes on Blair.

"It's okay, there's nothing she can do anyway!" Damien reassured and continue eating his meal.

"I uh, I know I'm new and I'm weak, but I can help, I want to!" Blair says.

She place her silver spoon on the plate and looked up at them, affecting a seriousness.

"I want to join your clan!"

"Are you out of your mind? You want to join the blue flame? You think it's a joke or what?" Zion snapped.

"Hey relax!" Cara interfered and turn to Blair,

"Look Blair, this is a dangerous job. Everyday that you are a part of us your life will be in danger."

Blair scoffed.

If only they knew who she were, they wouldn't sit here warning her about danger.

"I need to be able to protect myself before he comes for me!" Blair said.

"Who exactly is he? The man coming for you?"

Zion interrogated suspiciously.

"That's enough!" Cara said.

"What? You forgot what happened the last time we trusted someone new? Should I remind you how we ended up losing almost half our members to that crazy 'masked evil witch'?"

Zion said almost yelling,

"and that bitch is still out there, roaming about, probably planning an attack!"

"You need to let go of your obsession with the leader of the sphinx, she's gone, Damien already killed her!" Cara screamed.

"He stabbed her, who knows if she's dead, that bitch could still be alive!" Zion yelled back.

"That's enough!" Damien shouts them down, bringing his fist smashing down the table,

"you both need to relax. That woman is gone, and if she's still alive, I will find her and kill her."

Seeing closely how they all feel about her, Blair becomes even more frustrated and eager to find that dagger before they learn of her secret.

They all have this strong hatred directed towards her, why? She wondered.

The blue flame killed her men, and destroyed everything she's spent decades building, so how could they sit here speaking as if she was the one who ruined them?

Tension rises in the air - one can almost taste its saltiness.

Zion lets out an exaggerated groan and sighed heavily, "even in death, the masked evil witch still haunts us!"

Cara nods, "we just wanted to punish the bastards who killed John, and that decision resulted to the demise of hundreds of our men!"

Blair remembers clearly what happened. Seven years ago, two of her men were captured by the blue flame clan. In order to save them, Blair led a surgical strike mission.

They hijacked the blue flame's ship, and whilst trying to save her men, the rival clan attacked and she lost one of them, Nathan, who was her best friend.

Frustrated, Blair killed every man on the ship and torched it afterwards, sending a warning message to the blue flame.

That incident started the war between the Sphinx and the blue flame clan, which later resulted to her losing everything.

Her chest tightens with regret and rage, what if she hadn't killed them? What if she never ordered Nathan and Otis to go on that mission? Would she still be in this helpless situation?

"I wanted to look at her dead body, to spit on it... I wanted her to pay for killing my husband and Zion's brother!" Cara sobbed,

"He didn't... They didn't deserve to die like that. She did not even let us see them for a last time. She never gave us the chance to say one last goodbye."

Clammy hands clutching tightly to her pants, Blair drowns in shame and regret.

Blair was upset and broken, Nathan was everything to her. And after watching him die like that, she was stripped of the ability to think clearly. That incident was one of the many that still haunts her. It was a nightmare she wished she hadn't created.

But they weren't the only who lost people, Blair also did, including her powers and her status.

Sighing heavily, Cara speaks, "let's not dwell in the past no more, the future awaits us."

"That is very true!" Damien added.

"Okay! Speaking about facing the future..."

Zion turns to face Blair, "you said you wanted to help right? I know just the perfect job for you!"

His lips curl into a devilish smirk

"What are you scheming in that head of yours?" Cara asked.

Zion only chuckles.

"Bait.... She will be bait!"
