Chapter 26 - Connection

Darius who had just asked the fanatic in front of him to prove what she had just said smiled when there was a clear lack of response.

Seeing that there was no answer Darius repeated once again.

"Can you prove anything that you just said?"

But the girl once again had difficulty answering as she finally mumbled something.

"I don't need to prove it, it's simply the truth."

Darius hearing that noticed that those around him in the Church were looking at him with hostility in their eyes which is why he decided against commenting on that answer.

He simply nodded his head.

But, then he started to glance at the other statues which were on the ground, interested in them.

'Just who were those gods that were defeated by Rengar? Did they even exist or is this all just a big fantasy story?' thought Darius, unsure if those enemies, that Rengar presumably defeated, even existed in the first place.

"What about those destroyed statues? Can you tell me a little about them," asked Darius as he approached the fragments of the statues which were laid on the ground.

If one were to pay extreme attention, one would be able to recognize some faces on some of the stones.

Darius who was paying a lot of attention started to try and recreate the statues inside his mind, but as he was about to say that, the girl responded to his earlier questions in a bit of an aggressive tone.

"Why would I even bother learning about dead gods when the most important one is in front of me."

"It's not like they will come back from the dead," added the blonde girl.

Darius hearing that, decided that there really were fanatics inside this place as they seemed to adore only one being, dismissing the others completely.

"Then, can you won't mind, if I look at those statues from closer," uttered Darius, asking permission as he didn't know if he was allowed to do such a thing.

However, surprisingly, the blonde girl didn't even care about it, simply allowing it as if it didn't matter at all.

"Sure, go ahead."

Darius didn't lose any time as he got even closer to all those fragments of all those statues.

He wasn't sure why he wanted to learn about those gods, but he was simply curious about the history of this new world that he was a part of.

Then, he started to try and recreate the statues inside his mind, just like he had begun earlier before the girl interrupted him.

Glancing around he noticed that almost all the gods who were destroyed had some feature which didn't make them human, on one statue Darius noticed pointy ears which corresponded to the elves, on another one he noticed fangs which corresponded to vampires, and on another one he noticed parts of animals.

However, there was one god who didn't have any of those features, she seemed human just like Rengar. In fact, Darius could only see her head on the ground as it had been separated from the rest of her body.

Nonetheless, even if her face was the only thing that Darius could see at the moment, he was interested in that statue in particular.

"Can I touch one of those statues?" asked Darius, as he started approaching the head of that statue which seemed human-like.

Darius had no idea why, but he really felt attracted by the head of that statue as if he had no choice but to touch it.

"Yes, I already told you that no one cares about those destroyed statues," uttered the girl loudly.

Hearing that response, Darius didn't even bother responding as he approached the head of that beautiful goddess without much reason, it was simply his intuition that was speaking.

Then, his hand got closer and closer to the stone statue, and he finally touched it.

'Nothing happened?' thought Darius.

He didn't know why but he had expected some sort of strange reaction from touching the statue, but there was nothing at all.

'Oh, well I don't know why I even thought that something would happen,' thought Darius, finding himself a little stupid.

'I guess, I'm done here,' thought Darius, as he felt that his task here to be completed.

He felt like he had done everything that he had been supposed to do in the first place.

Darius then turned toward the blonde girl, who was still looking at him strangely clearly wondering what he had just done.

However, even if she were to question Darius he wouldn't be able to give an answer as even he ignored it.

"Can I leave?" asked Darius as he started walking toward the massive wooden doors, not even waiting for her answer.

"Sure, let me accompany you," she said as she quickly caught up to him.

Then, the two of them quickly arrived at the door and Darius opened it right away.

But before he could do so, a hand appeared on his chest once again, stopping him just like what had happened.

"My name's Natasha, if you ever come back here again, just ask for me it will be simpler," she said looking at his body as if saying that if there were to back here unannounced maybe people would misunderstand.

"Um, sure," replied Darius, not understanding why she had said that.

Well, he knew that it was related to the fact that she had thought that he had been a vampire at first.

Then, Darius finally opened those doors finally leaving the Church and as he got outside of it, he heard a beeping sound inside his mind.

*BEEP*

[You have strengthened God Lilia's connection with this world.]

Darius reading this was confused.

'I strengthened a God's connection? What the hell does that even mean?' thought Darius, confused.

But, then, he remembered touching the head of one of the statues and he realized that it was probably related.

No, it had to be related to that.
