Chapter 28 - The Guild's Exam...

After healing the man, he gets up and looks around, confused.

Then he stares at me and prostrates himself.

"I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!"

"Forgiven, now just leave me alone."

After hearing my 'forgiven', he gets up, bows, and runs out the door.

'Wimp...'

Ignoring what just happened, I start to head out the door. Right as I was about to open the door, someone charges in from a different door.

"What's going on?!"

I look over at the person. He was a middle-aged human with a scar on his eye.

The female who was at the desk points at me.

"It's him, sir! He has been causing lots of trouble since he enters the guild. He even tried to blackmail me so that he could get a guild's card!"

"Huh?"

I look at her in anger. 'I did not! You...'

I calm myself. Everyone around nods with her. 'Welp... I can't get out of this now. Could destroy the building with everyone in it so that there's no evidence... Huh? Why am I having these thoughts?'

I blink, trying to get rid of the nasty thoughts.

The male looks at me and around. He calls me.

"You there! Can you please come into my office for a minute?"

'Ugh... Let's get this over with.'

I nod to the man and walk to the room he came from. As I passed the desk, the female inside snickers at me. I ignore her snickering and followed the male as we enter the room.

The room was what you might expect to see for a boss in a huge corporation. It had a singular desk with a chair behind and in front of it. He sits at his desk and points for me to sit at the other chair.

I nod and sit down in the chair.

Once we were both seated, he starts staring at me. After a bit, he casts magic and begins to question me.

"Let's hear your story. I cast truth magic so it will detect if your lying. First, why did you come into the guild?"

A magic circle extends from his hands. Based on its looks, it seems to be extra magic.

"To sign up. I have always been interested in how quests are done and wanted to check it out."

"I see..."

He looks at the circle. I do the same and say particles float to me. Judging by his reaction, that is what tells him if I'm lying or telling the truth.

"Next, What did you do after entering the building?"

"I walked up to the female at the desk and asked to sign up. She said I was too young and asked for some ID. I gave her my ID but she denied me, saying that there were too many young adventures and that there is a limit amount of quests."

He stares at me for a bit, then switches his gaze to the circle. The same thing happens to show him that I'm not lying.

"Impossible... There's a decline in young adventures actually... We also have a surplus of quests and need as much help we can get. Hmm... Okay, what happened afterward?"

"I was about to leave when this muscular man walked into me. He started demanding him money or else he was going to injure me. I tried to ignore him but he wouldn't let up so I taught him a lesson. Don't worry, I healed him and made sure that I didn't break anything."

"I-I see..."

This time he doesn't look at the circle. Apparently, he trusts me and believes that I'm telling the truth.

He continues to stare at me. Then, after a bit of time, he swallows.

"O-one last question. Are you... the blue devil?"

I smile. It appears humans even know about me. "Yes. I'm Imai Akuma, the blue devil."

He stares quietly then quickly changes to the circle. The same thing happens, proving that I'm the blue devil. His eyes grow wider.

After a bit, he regains his composer and clears his throat.

"Ahem. I welcome you Akuma. I'm sorry that your first visit was horrible. Please forgive us. I'll punish that receptionist for your troubles. I'm the guild master, Naoki."

He extends his hands for a handshake. I accept and shake his hands.

"Now then. Can I see that ID card you were talking about?"

"Sure."

I pull out the military card and hand it to him.

He grabs it and looks over it. His eyes widen again.

"Y-your backed by Elvania army?!"

I tilt my head, looking at him in a confused manner.

"Ahem... Sorry about that. Here you are."

He returns the card to me.

"So, you want to join the guild. Sure thing, but first you'll have to do a couple of tests. We need to measure your intelligence, magic, and attack power. Afterward, I'll tell you how the guild works."

I nod at Naoki. "Okay, what's first?"

"Eager, huh? First, I have you take this short hand-written test. It should measure some of your intelligence."

He hands me a packet. Each page has three questions on both sides. I began the test.

...

I zoom by the test in under a minute.

'It was so easy!'

The test was easier than the final exam the school had me take. It basically asks 'what if' questions. They ask what would I do under certain situations. For instance, question seven.

'Question Seven: You are out on a quest hunting high-ranking monsters. On that quest, you encounter an extra ten of said monster at once. What would you do during the situation?'

Easy question! It's simple, you judge how strong the monster is and if you can defeat them all at once. If you can't, then you retreat or set up traps so you can separate them so you can fight them in smaller pairs. It's common sense!

There were also questions on the basis of magic. Some included what magic circles were and the types of magic.

After finishing the test, I hand it back to Naoki. He stares at it for a moment.

"I-Is there a question or error?"

"Huh? No, I'm finished."

He stares at me for a moment then grabs the paper. Then, he casts magic onto the paper.

After some time, he looks at me.

"Perfect score! We heard that this updated test was the hardest test since the guild's opening, but I guess it was no match for the blue devil..."

Hard? It was so easy! A baby could get a perfect score. I keep this fact to myself though.

"Okay, the next test is about your magic aptitude and mana capacity. Follow me, please."

He gets up and walks out the door. I follow behind him. We had to pass the female who was at the desk. As we do, I give her a devious smile.
