The Monster

The party lasted until late night; all the guest had headed home leaving the trio alone seated amongst the red cups and other evidence of the laughing with one another. "I remember that" Gloria spoke between laughs as she downed the rest of her drink, "refill?" Sam questioned her friends seeing as all their glasses were empty. "Of course, girl, this is a party fill me up!".

"Pretty sure the party ended long ago" Sam laughed as she reached out to grab the bottle that was by her side. "Nuh uh, this party…" Elvis made it to his feet and moved to the laptop and tapped on a key causing music to blare through the speakers once more, "…is only over when I say so". "Woo!" Gloria called out, taking of her heels she made it to her feet and began to dance to the music. Infected by the atmosphere Sam moved over to join them filling up their glasses with the bottle of red wine in her hand.

Their joyous atmosphere was soon interrupted by a loud crashing sound, "what was that?" Gloria asked. "Maybe there is someone still there" Elvis spoke to the two before moving to stand before the two looking into the hallway where the sound originated from. The light at the end of the hall began to flicker, Elvis immediately tightened his grip on the glass of wine he held at hand. Sam had grabbed her phone prepared to call the police just in case.

"Hello is anyone there?" Elvis summoning all his courage questioned as he took a few steps forward to trying to see who or what exactly was the source of the noise he had heard. A deep growl however quickly shattered the feeble confidence he had gathered, the was a loud audible pop as the bulb shattered and black mass charged straight at them.

Elvis was barely able to let out a scream before he was sent straight into a wall, "Elvis!" Sam called out before she too was flung aside. With blood trickling down from her forehead, Sam tried to make it back to her feet looking around the room she laid eyes on the black mass which was coming together to form an ethereal being looking down on the body which lay beneath its feet with its glowing red eyes.

Sam moved her eyes from the monster to focus on the body beneath her feet but the sight caused her to let out a gasp. At the feet of the monster lay Gloria who had a deep hole in her belly from which blood flowed out and pooled underneath her. Her reaction did not go unnoticed by the monster who slowly turned around to look at her, the monster showing off its rows of sharp teeth with grin spoke in a ghastly voice.

"Found you"

Fear came over her like a blanket as the monster began to walk towards her purposefully slowing its steps, at this point Sam was sure the monster could sense her ever growing fear and it clearly delighted in her suffering. Just as the monster was but a few steps its throat was wrapped by some sort of golden thread, before being yanked away and sent through a wall.

Sam's eyes moved to the source of the thread only to see the familiar god who had turned to look at her as well. "Well, hello there" Anansi spoke as he reached out to help her to her feet, "okay now we need to go" Anansi pulled her along as they began to leave but she stopped him. "Wait we can't just leave them there", Sam argued trying to get Anansi to save her friends who were still on the floor.

"Actually, we can. Do you think I killed that thing, because if you did, I'm sorry to disappoint but I didn't" as if on cue the monster let out a growl before causing a minor tremor. "Oh crap, it's getting back up, look if you want to save your friends leaving here with me is your best option."

"Why is that?"

"Because that thing is after you, now grab my hand"

Wasting no more time she grabbed his hand just as the monster made it back to its feet letting out a roar with a meaning as clear as day, it was pissed. The two jumped through the window narrowly avoiding the wild charge from the monster, Anansi formed another golden thread which he fired at another building and used to swing away but the monster would not give up so easy as it reverted to its gaseous state and began to chase the two through the streets of Kumasi.

Sam seeing the monster was still on their tail, not being able to hold it in anymore questioned Anansi "Why don't you just kill that thing?" "Oh you know I'm planning on keeping it as a pet. What do you think?" Anansi replied before avoiding an attack that took out half an apartment building. The two fell on a street causing all the car alarms in the vicinity to go off.

"My abilities aren't exactly at a hundred percent right now, if we want to kill that thing you are going to have to do it"

"Me?! How the hell am I supposed to go up against that!" Samantha screamed as the mist formed a whirlwind and began to transform back into its physical state. "With this" Anansi brought out the Akrafena once more. "We don't have much time just take it!" The panic in Anansi's voice was clear for all to hear.
