Chapter 27 Playing With Fire

Wes and I only had a very vague mention of the kiss last night. It seemed that we both settled on the kiss just happening in the heat of the moment so that we could continue to sell our charade without anyone becoming skeptical.

That was the final verdict we seemed to arrive at before ending the conversation last night.

I don't know where it was coming from but part of me felt disappointed. Part of me was expecting that maybe there was a different reason he kissed me. I don't know if that's what I wanted but I thought he would say something more last night.

It was crazy of me to expect that. Of course.

I knew Wes. I had been the one playing match-maker for him so I knew that Wes wasn't the real relationship type of guy. He had never even picked a single girl that was worthy enough for him to see a second time.

The only reason he hung around me was because our relationship was purely as friends. Add in the fun and games when I scouted out dates for him.

I didn't know how I was feeling. Part of me was hoping he would kiss me again and part of me thought that was ridiculous because I have to remember that as soon as we get back on campus, there's no more playing pretend and we are back to being friends and only friends.

I guess I got caught up in the charade of it all. Wes putting on a show for the sake of my family buying our fake relationship was making me confuse his acting to the reality of us being friends.

"How long have you been up?"

I snapped back into the world when Wes's voice cut through my thoughts. I looked at him peering at me with a goofy smile on his face.

"Sorry," I mumbled, my face heating up in embarrassment. I had been staring at the roof, lost in thought. "I was totally zoned out."

Wes sat up in bed, an amused look on his face. "Don't tell me my kiss was so mind-blowing it's got your head all twisted up in replays."

And the same old Wes Hamilton was back. Just the way I liked him.

I rolled my eyes as I sat up, swinging my legs over the bed so I could get up. While my stomach was doing flips, I played a very well poker face. "Don't get full of yourself, pretty boy. One kiss could never make me swoon that hard."

That was a lie.

I was a mess.

And yes, I was replaying that stupid kiss that kept making my stomach turn fuzzy.

I turned to look at Wes who pouted out his bottom lip. "How does one make his fake-girl real-fall for him?"

"Keep working your magic, I'm sure something will crack me." I shot him a cheeky grin as I headed into the bathroom to brush my teeth.

Wes groaned loudly. I looked out the bathroom door to see him pouting at me. "If only you fell for me as quick as the fake-you did in our fake story about our fake relationship."

I stopped brushing my teeth, letting the toothbrush hang in my mouth. I scoffed, "I'm sure the fake-you fell for fake-me much quicker. Don't be cocky."

Wes swung his legs over the bed and quickly hopped up, strolling into the bathroom. He pulled out his own toothbrush as he leaned against the counter and watched me. "Real me did too. I'm sure of it."

My eyebrows pulled together as I held back a laugh at the lack of sense he was making. "What?"

He shook his head, sighing heavily as he started to brush his teeth. "You know," he mumbled, his words muffling as the toothbrush remained in his mouth. "We're pretty good at this. It almost doesn't feel so fake."

I raised my eyebrows, admiring the idiot Wes was. "Because it isn't fake," I spit in the sink before turning to look at him. He had a taken aback look on his face. "This is us, Wes. Just being us, having fun."

Wes stopped brushing his teeth, his eyebrows pulling together in thought. "What if," he smirked, pausing. Before I had a chance to process Wes had taken my toothbrush from my hands and started brushing my teeth for me.

I sputtered, looking at him with wide eyes as I smiled big with my teeth, allowing him to brush them for me.

"Wh-"

A moment later he stopped so I could spit. I laughed loudly, shaking my head at him. "What are you doing?"

He shrugged, holding out my tooth brush for me to take. "Brushing your teeth. That's one of those sappy things, right? Brushing each others teeth."

I tilted my head, looking at him like he was crazy.

Wes grinned goofily, finishing brushing is own teeth.

While Wes finished changing, I headed downstairs where I was greeted by my cousins in the kitchen.

I was flipping pancakes on the stove when out of nowhere, arms were snaked around my waist. Wes tucked his head onto my shoulder, hugging me softly from behind.

I instantly tensed, my breath being caught in my throat. "What... are you doing?" I drawled out, scrunching up my face to make the heat that has flushed across my entire face go away.

Wes inhaled deeply, "Pancakes smell really good, Fi."

I let out a forced chuckle, feeling my stomach doing somersaults. "Wes..."

"Mhm?" He seemed unbothered, looking like he had no intention of letting me go.

"Jesus!" Sage came running over to me, snatching the spatula out of my hand. "Dude," she groaned loudly. "You burnt the pancake."

I spun around, turning to face Wes. I looked at him with wide eyes, shaking my head softly. 'What are you doing?' I mouthed, to which Wes simply grinned at.

After Sage had taken over at the stove, I grabbed Wes's hand and pulled him to the side into the hallway. "Seriously?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

He smiled innocently. "What? We have to be convincing, right?"

My mouth fell agape as I looked like him in disbelief. "You're not funny, Weston."

He rolled his eyes at me. "What is it, Fia?" He stepped closer to me. I stepped away from him but there was nowhere to go as my back hit the wall.

Wes smirked when he realized I was indeed trapped. He was having too much fun with this, far too amused.

He stepped even closer until his body was pushing mine against the wall. Instantly, I froze and stared at him with my mouth agape, unable to form any words. My face again felt like it was on fire.

He smirked down at me, his eyes dancing with joy. "What's wrong?" He spoke in a whisper, his voice low and very hot.

I let out a shaky breath, swallowing the lump in my throat.

"This parts all for show, right? We're just... pretending to be a lovey little couple," he let out a small chuckle, not being able to bite back his smile. "Why are you so flustered?"

I opened my mouth to speak but ending up closing it, gaping like a fish out of water. Wes had actually left me speechless. Evil.

Wes grinned, taking a step away from me. He shot me a wink as he walked away and headed back into the kitchen, leaving me to stand in the hall with my jaw dropped.

Oh, Wes.

I didn't know what game he was playing but it was really dangerous.
