Following in his father's footsteps, he began with the neck, watching as the blood flowed out. The blood then dispersed into the water, leaving no trace behind.
Lucien did this to drain as much blood as possible; he found being covered in it both bothersome and unpleasant. The smell of blood and its sticky texture were particularly offensive to him.
Next, he moved to Louis's arm, targeting the circumference rather than the elbow. This area was easier to start with since it was primarily composed of fat and muscle, whereas the elbow was protected by bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and other connective tissues.
