Chapter 14:Learning as you go

Christopher pov. 

"What just happened!"

With the gem shard in my hand, I begin to notice the slight changes in the forest. This one became quieter and the darkness seemed especially dangerous with each passing second. 

"That gem certainly enhanced the seal, but it also enhanced the sword as a whole (Sheath+Sheath+Seal), making the low energy seal enhancement unable to maintain the power of the enhanced sword."

*Howl* *Crack* 

Strange noises now took shape and faces, from the darkness of the forest all kinds of beings started to come out. There are animals that look normal only bigger, small sprites with different colors, flying beasts that look like bees, dragonflies and other things, plus a tall humanoid being with a big belly, horn and military armor. 

*Groaning*. 

They could sense danger or so I think, due to the fact that they stay away despite their obvious bloodlust. He lifted clouded fang and withdrew it from the scabbard, letting the light from the campfire reflect off the edge. 

"¡Come!"

My scream was the trigger that marked the beginning of the battle, the beasts ran in my direction wanting to end my life, on the other hand, the goblins threw their rudimentary weapons, while the flying beasts came towards me from the height. 

*¡Booooom!*

A shockwave swept all the beings around me like feathers, followed by this lifted clouded fang from the ground and placed it diagonally, thus stopping the downward slash of a naginata wielded by a fat military man. 

"Aghh... You're heavy!"

Roaring under my breath and gritting my teeth from the weight applied on clouded fang, as if responding to my needs, three of the tails intertwine before striking from the right at the military yokai, sending it flying into the trees and leaving me free of that pressure. 

*Groan*

Before I can balance myself due to the weight loss, a beast jumps from the periphery of the field of vision managing to bite my left arm and draw blood, following this, a buzzing of bees can be heard coming directly towards my body. 

"GET OUT!"

Letting out a loud scream, one of the tails wraps around the beast and rips it off my arm before ferociously squeezing it. On the other side, the remaining three tails move like whips, slashing the air and in a moment ignite into flames, making the air blurred by the heat produced.

"Ah, ah, ah, ah, dirty mobs!"

[Kill 'em, kill 'em, kill 'em, kill 'em all!] 

Mental exhaustion was slowly but steadily starting to build up, the use of skills, controlling tails and minor wounds that appear over time added to the voice of clouded fang, making my body slow to react even with the euphoric state it's in. 

"I'll do it... It's either that or rely on clouded fang."

Deciding on one option, I pull out the gem fragment again and forcefully embed it into my forehead. First came the pain caused by embedding a foreign object, but then it was as if my head split in half before all those sensations were erased by the agility and fluidity reigning in my mind.

*shingg*

The naginata pierces the air with incredible speed, almost reaching my face in a few breaths, but now with this new air I was easily able to redirect it by hitting its shaft, continuing that movement, I spin in place sweeping all around with my tails and stop with clouded fang pointing to the sky. 

"Take that!"

Striking the ground with the blade, I shoot out a wave of red energy much more intense than the one previously used. It wipes out everything in its path, be it beasts, goblins, dirt or trees, until it reaches the military yokai, which is split in half. 

*¡Boom!*

The land was painted red and the moonlight makes the sight more gloomy for the spectators. On the ground, pieces of trees are left scattered around the place and unknown flesh is piled up in certain places. 

"I won... hahaha I won!"

I was happy, excited, elated, euphoric, this was amazing, the feeling of accomplishment... It's addictive. 

"Certainly, you won, now the best option is to leave before more come and I don't think you can keep fighting any longer, by the way do you know where the ogre's head is? "

Saya comes back out of the scabbard at my waist, to comment on what I already knew, namely that I have no fuse for more and that I may have lost my confirmation of finishing the task. Although the one about the fat military yokai works just as well, doesn't it? 

"You're right, let's go."
