"What proposal?" Sarah inquired.
"Let's get married." Aidan replied, causing Sarah to jump out of her seat. Before she could say a word he raised his hand for her to stop and continued.
"The Will says we have to get married before our birthday and that gives me two days and you four days to find a match, which in current situation is almost impossible. If you say yes to my proposal, we get married tomorrow, saving our inheritance from going to charity. We will have to stay married for a year and then we can file for divorce."
"Why should I marry you? Maybe I have someone in mind" Sarah dished out. She could feel the heat on her face. How could he even propose such bizarre request like he is commenting on the weather.
"So do you have someone in mind?" Aidan continued to be calm as usual.
"Why should I tell you? I still have four days and I don't need this inheritance, let it go to charity." Sarah was unwilling to back down.
Aidan quirked his eyebrows. "Let it go to charity? Are you willing to let go of the estate then?"
Sarah slumped in her seat. How could she let go of the estate? Even in these past few years away, a part of Sarah always thought she belonged here.
"Well! Seems like you aren't." Aidan continued triumphantly. "You might like what am about to offer you next" Aidan paused to see if he had Sarah's attention and offered "if you accept my proposal, and marry me tomorrow, you can also have my share of the estate at the end of the year. I will return to Australia after completing two months, I'll be back after a year and we can file for divorce then and I will sign the transfer papers."
Sarah sat speechless. Losing everything versus gaining the complete estate. But at the same time marrying Aidan? She remembered when uncle had rented out a part of his estate to a celebrity and their planner had turned it into enchanted garden for wedding. She was so awestruck with the beauty, she said she wanted a wedding like that causing Aidan to laugh at her till she ran to her room crying. That was the night when he had kissed her for the first time after explaining how marriages were lame. Oh she was so stupid back then!
"How do I trust you?" Sarah couldn't believe herself even considering this.
"Oh! You don't have to trust me. We can sign a contract."
Sarah thought about it. It was impossible to find a person to marry in next four days. Also, the new Sarah no longer believed in love and marriage. She would get the estate in a year and then will go back to living her life.
"Okay! Let's do it." Sarah got up to shake Aidan's hand like end of a meeting.
To her surprise, Aidan enveloped her in a hug. Shock and desire ran through her body. Willing her mind to shut out lustful thoughts she tried to pull away. But before she could say a word, he let her go and walked out of the room without looking back.
