8. Dinner

'Hey girl' Janet shouted from the door, pushing her way through without knocking. It was past 5pm when she arrived at Karen's house with a bottle of wine. She walked straight to the bedroom and met the room unkempt.

'Where is this mad girl?' she questioned herself

'Karen! Karen! you can't run away from your bestfriend!' she called out to her bestfriend loudly.

Janet knocked on the bathroom door but there was no response, she pushed the door open and Karen wasn't in sight.

'Where could that girl be?!' she questioned herself again as she left the bedroom and walked straight to the kitchen.

'Did she even prepare anything? Why will she leave the door open?' Janet opened the pots and yes, her guess was right, there was no food there.

Ever since she knew her bestfriend, she always knew she disliked cooking. 'So what will I eat now?' she shouted , questioning the kitchen space.

Karen stepped into the house holding on to a bag which contained the ordered food for tonight dinner. She sighted Janet in the kitchen and felt it was the best time to give her a good shock.

Dropping the bag at the dinning table, she tiptoed to the kitchen and reached for Janet's eyes , covering it with her two hands.

'Jesus!' Janet screamed out of shock , shaking profusely .

'Chill girl, it's just me before you start convulsing' Karen immediately said laughing behind her .

Janet had the look of shock written all over her

'That wasn't funny. Do you want to give me bp?' She asked Karen , pouting her mouth .

'I am sorry' Karen replied

'Not forgiven, where is the food?' Janet said as she brushed past her

Karen rushed to the dinning table and grabbed the bag clutching it to her bosom 'No food for you until you forgive me'

Janet knew there was no way she was going to win this without forgiving her, so she took a deep breath and said 'You know I can't be mad at you. Please bring the food.' her face curved into a smile

'Guess what? I got wine' She quickly added, shoving the wine up in her face

it was her favorite wine, Karen's expression lightened up at the sight of the wine

'You got me Chardonnay , damn girl, come here' She hugged Janet and whispered 'I love you girl' to her ear.

'Awwwn, anything for you. Can we eat now?' Janet asked her, returning the hug

'Yeah sure' she smiled

The wine was opened by Janet while Karen set the table for dinner. They both devoured the meal hungrily

'Babes, have you heard from Quinn?' She asked after chunking on the chicken

'No, not yet' Karen replied with a mouthful

There was silence for a few seconds.

'Ever since he left yesterday, no word from him. I don't know why I feel so attracted to him and sometimes, I don't even know if it's love or just simple obsession but you know me, I haven't felt this way in a long while'. She completed the last statement with a sigh, having a look of sadness on her face.

Janet felt a bit bad for asking because the whole lively environment changed.

She reached out for her hand 'Darling, I am sure he likes you. Don't feel bad' She said to her, feeling so unsure of her statement

'My apology, I am sorry for raising this topic, just cheer up.'

Karen didn't respond to her

'What do you think? You could actually call him and invite him over tonight.' Janet added trying to cheer her up

'Do you think he will show up after leaving the way he left yesterday?'

'Don't be negative, who will ever reject your call' she smiled at her

'I think I will give it a try' Karen returned the smile

'I will give him a call later but I need to call ken concerning that project. I feel so tired' She sighed

'Remember more money!' Janet replied laughing

'Yeah, more money but I am just tired of everything. I feel so distracted, Quinn has occupied a very large part in my heart'

'Okay, you are going to choose right now' Janet stood up from the chair, staring down at Karen

'Work or Love, choose one' she asked with a very serious expression which looked so funny to her friend

'Stop it, why are you laughing. I am being serious here but I will advise you , today is Sunday and babygirl needs babygirl's treatment' she said, winking at her

' Babygirl's treatment, Huh? How does Quinn come in ? when I already have you. Why don't you just take me out and spoil me.' She replied Janet giving off a very cunning smile .

Janet brought her hands up to her ear and covered it 'Sorry, I can't hear you' They laughed so loudly

' Sis, get a man for your self and stop pestering my life!' She told her

'When I have you, I don't need a man'

'Well, I am going to meet my man. I guess his back by now and he needs me right beside him. As a lovely friend, I will always tell you the truth! GET A MAN AND LEAVE ME ALONE!' Janet shouted as she hurriedly rushed out of the house and stood at the front door before Karen could get up.

'And don't forget, I love you' She shouted from the door

' Silly girl, come back here! Who will wash the dishes? You know I can't do this alone' Karen lazily shouted back at her

'Get a man and I will do the dishes for you!' came back the reply of Janet still standing at the door

'You need a guy to scratch your back! bitch!' Janet kept on screaming

'Hey, keep your voice down. Do you want every body in this neighborhood to know I don't have a man?' Karen replied as she walked closer to her with a throw pillow, aiming to use it on her.

Janet noticed her movement and screamed much louder 'GET A MAN SIS!! AND STAY AWAY FROM ME! KEEP YOUR THROW PILLOW AWAY TOO!' .

As she was about throwing the pillow at her, Janet ran out of her friend's sight .

Karen laughed and walked back to the couch' She is just a bitch!' she said to her self.
