Threatening Carol!
Days on,
Eric requested that we see, he insisted that it was superduper important. This time i didn't take chances, I narrated the whole conversation to Jamal and he suggested that i go for it. I sat waiting for Eric to arrive, these walls scared the shit out of me, I pitied him. He came forth with two policemen beside him. His arms were curled up in handcuffs, he looked shabby and frustrated. It wasn't the Fashionista-Eric i knew, this Eric described sympathy and forlorn.
"Eric!!!" I called
"Hi Danni"
"You don't look good at all." I added
"I know. I don't need your sympathy, I deserve it." He said passively
"....Spare me that. We all have dark sides."
He faintly smiled then continued anyways
"Back to why I called. I want you to have something and that's the only prove to bring down the Carol. I hate her so much that I hate to say it." He expressed himself
"Just keep calm. What's that thing you want to give me?" I asked in confusion
"My house at the woods. Under the center rug, there's an opening. You'll find a small box.....you can find the keys in my drawer. All you have to do is take the box with you, you can show Jamal if you want. That's the only way out. Thanks!" He stood up to leave
"Ok. I got you, trust me and I'll show it to Jamal as well....Won't you ask about Ada?" I asked him, to me he was reluctant about it
"....what do you want me to say?" He looked pissed immediately
"She wants to see you, she's finally remembered you." I added standing as well
"Can she remember how she hurt me as well?" Eric blasted
"...You...." I stuttered
"No. Judge me all you want. No one sees Ada's fault, I'm the devil! Good to have you around!" Eric asked the securities to return him.
I stood there speechless then I walked out.
I entered my car staring at myself in the rear glass. I felt uneasy, did I always have to interfere with their lives? I asked myself. There was a knock on the glass then I wounded down the glass.
"Can I Have a word?" A Slim pretty lady about 35, dressed in all black leather clothing and a pair of black boots, her shades were black except for her complexioned skin then asked politely with a beam.
"Go ahead!" I affirmed
"I'm Jada....." She stretched her hand for a shake, then I did likewise
"....I'm..." I wanted to talk as she cuts me short
"I know who you are. Danielle Chris Khaleefa." She satisfactorily
"How did you know that? Who are you?" I asked with doubts
"Don't worry. I won't harm you, we could talk over a few shots or coffee...Here's my card! You'd like my terms about Eric!" She said with a smirk, she dropped the card on me gently then walked to a white Porsche then sped off. I froze. This lady must be a ton of wealth, I concluded. Her cologne could tell it better. I started my engine then drove off as well.
Jada drove to Carol's as well, this time Carol was sitting at the garden reading from a newspaper. Jada approached her.
"I wonder why you read about the headlines you already know about!" Jada smacked taking off her shades while her snowy wavy hair swayed to the chilly breeze that blew spontaneously. Carol closed the papers to look at who spoke to her in that manner.
"And you are?"
"Jada, your worse nightmare!" Jada smiled
"What's that all about Jada, who are you? Such a pretty lady shouldn't display her..."
"...Pretentious parody. I know. That's your favorite line, Carol. I came to see for myself if the governors' wife is indeed saint or a killer!" She chuckled
"...I don't understand you, Jada. Can we talk appropriately." Carol asked politely
"I wish we could but no, its impossible. I'll see you soon." Jada said as she walked away putting on the shades again
Immediately, Carol sent for Robin. He ran to her immediately.
"What can I do for you, first lady?"
"You're such an idiot. Who was that lady?"
"A family friend, just like she said. She insisted you both had an appointment which she clothed as urgent call...is there a problem ma'am?" Robin asked after the explanation
"You should be more professional, this is bullshit. Pete should hear about this, your incompetence." She walked away angrily. Robin got pissed and angry.
"I never asked you to kill." He whispered within.
Carol was disturbed and terrified. It finally dawned on her to see Eric, maybe something could be stopped.
*************
"Could you say something, Eric? Can we talk?" Carol requested politely. Eric was silent giving her unruly glances.
"Eric, I know how angry you tend to be right now...." She began, he interrupted
"...Tend to be, you say? After everything you did to me, you still see me as reckless, is that it?" He asked with a smile
"Eric...." She called
"....Don't start with the Eric thing, Carol. I never knew you'd be this heartless, you preferred I suffer here while you live a life luxury com flamboyancy. So cut the chase, why are you here?" He asked seriously
"To simply talk. Eric, there's no need for you to send some douche bag into the residence to threaten me." Carol stated
Eric laughed nonchalantly and replied
"....send someone? If I ever did Carol, you'd be dead trust me!"
"Tell me you don't know anyone Jada? Well, I have an offer for you. All you have to do is scramble any form of evidence with you then you'd be a free man, plus the deputy governor's position Pete promised. Its secured for you but not forever..." She requested
He smirked
"You should've thought about that a long time ago. I don't care about you or your family." He stood up to leave
"...Eric, think about it. It might be your last chance!" She added
"That's right. If its my last chance, then I have a cell mate..." He walked away whistling
Carol's security walked her out with friendly and respectful glances on the way, as they drove away.
I thought about Eric's proposal but I was skeptical for a couple of days. I took about a week before arriving at a final decision. Going to the woods and a serene area was huge work, I suggested my husband's company. He squeezed out time and we headed the road. The bungalow was dusty and untidy, I wondered how Eric lived here without falling sick, Some men though. I thought to myself. I did as Eric instructed, before I took off the rug, Jamal stopped me
"Let me see it!" He offered
"C'mon Jamal, its just a rug you know!" I snapped
"Whatever it is, it don't look good. He took the box out and luckily we found a file wrapped with nylon. We didn't check, we wanted that for later. We heard some unusual noises coming from within aside from the birds chirps, frog croaks and hisses.
We kept shut trying as hard as possible to remain absolutely silent. Jamal asked that I hide behind the door, good thing I found a rod beside me. Jamal took a knife instead. A man dressed in black came in pointing a gun at Jamal
"Hand the documents or you hit it tonight!" He threatened
"Put the gun down and we'll talk about it." Jamal threw his knife to the ground, he walked backwards for me to have access to give a strike
"Do you think this is some bunny replay or what?" The man shot the ceiling while he yelled.
"Where's your wife?" The man asked
"She.....She.....she's left. Bad timing!" Jamal jeered, the man shot lamp stand
".....Damn you, nigga!" He yelled
I came out as planned then struck the man's head with the rod, he passed out in no time. Jamal and I stood staring at each other while I threw the rod to the ground. Our faces were full of confusion. Jamal walked gently towards me. He kissed me with content. I finally smiled.
"Best husband ever."
"We're in this together, for real. Let's get the hell out of here!" He said as we walked out. We ran to the door, as soon as he got his hand on the wheels, we sped off at 220°
Exactly after 2 hours, we hopped on the file.
"Babe, you don't want to see this..." Jamal stared at the photos first while I tried to access the flash drive using my laptop.
"What's that exactly..." I asked without looking
"Look!" He persisted in shock
I looked at it and to my disappointment, Carol and Eric were in the photo. Eric was captured shooting at the deputy while he pleaded and Carol was stood from behind smiling.
"Mm-hmm. This is prove, baby. What do we do right now?"
"Before that. If Carol and Eric were in the photos, then who took the pictures? Who did this. This is totally not the work of a tripod, drone or something. Someone took this." He said, he made a brilliant point
"....If Eric and Carol were here, then Robin must have taken this pictures. Babe its obvious....." I began pacing around "....when you coaxed Robin to let us see Eric on the first day, did you actually have a reason for that?"
"Err....Reasons....Reasons. He was part of a dirty business back then...I had to come up with an instant idea. Mere preconceptions!" He added with a shrug
"Right. Robin took this pictures. What confuses me most is the fact that Eric got this evidence without a struggle, there was a conspiracy between the three. In pairs and a middle man which is Robin." I stopped
"That's smart. I think so too. Pete can not pretend to not know all of this anyways."
"He does, Khaleef. If we must bring down these two people then we should expect a dozen going down the drain with them." I added.
He sighed and continued.
"Then we don't have to do anything." He said
"Nah babe. We've come a long way so we can't give up just like that...." I countered, I wanted him to see reasons why.
"...Its not about giving up, Danni. Its not. Its about risking Eric's life. If you want him out of prison, all we got to do is play safe. Get him out to be a free and everyone goes back to a normal life." He bluntly suggested
"This is not the justice we're fighting for...." I said in defiance
"Then what about the Man at the woods? We're being followed trust me. I think we should play safe and live normal." He strongly advised
I kept quiet for a few seconds. Jamal.was right; I didn't think about that.
"It was Jada!"
"What stupid Jada?" He looked confused
"That woman I spoke to you about, at the prison? The weird lady? remember?"
"She sent that dude? Ah, what have we gotten ourselves into! I got to think this straight for tonight." He said without a tease
"...I know, babe. Take the time in the world." I kissed him on the head while sat on the bed
"Of course. You were brave earlier....and always brave." He complimented
"Like you tricked his ass? He's really dumb." We laughed
"He actually thought it was a one man army..." He added as we laughed about it in the end after a long argument.
The whole scenario became a task for me to carry out. All I wanted to do was get Eric out of prison and then we live a normal life just as Jamal stated. Jada got into the picture, from what I've observed from the start, she wouldn't be so slack about everything. It was one to thing to accept her invitation and another thing to act according to plan at the moment.
