Chapter 90

Jane slipped with Chris in her arms, her slippers slipped off from her feet, Chris held her just in place with his strong hands and he was able to carry Chris just in time

Jane and Christopher eyes locked with each other as they both face up, they got lost in the moment, time seem to stopped that instant for them both

they couldn't stop looking at each other or break away from each other until a voice broke into the air

"what is going on here?" Maria broke into their fantasy

Jane recognizing the icy voice quickly detached herself from Christopher "I'm so sorry sir" she said, realizing that Chris was in his arms, she took him from him, "please let me carry him" she said politely

"are you okay, are you hurt anywhere?" Chris asked worriedly oblivious to his mother

"yes sir, I'm fine thank you for coming to our aid" she said

"no one has explained to me what's going on, what is going on who is the kid?" Maria asked again

"good evening madam" Jane greeted but she was ignored she wanted to say something else but Chris stopped her, he held her hand signalling her for not to say anything

"mom, Jane would be moving to the mansion, she lives quite far and it's almost impossible to do her job, but she needs to have a son with her" Chris explained

"but son you should have discussed that with me first, we can't have strangers live in our house, and she's even bringing in her son" Maria complained

"mom, there's nothing wrong with that, she will be staying in the servant quarters with the rest and she's not disturbing anybody" Grace defended her

"but still, I don't agree with it" Maria still insisted

"come on honey, it's fine we have enough room to go round, besides he's just a little boy, Chris has already agreed so let's just support him okay" Williams tried to make her see reason

"we can always get another maid anytime we want, we just need to contact the agency" Maria still won't let go, she felt uneasy anytime she's around Jane and she just couldn't explain why, she reminds of her someone so much but she can't place a finger on it so she wants her to stay away from her and her family, this was her perfect opportunity and she wouldn't let it go

"but mom this is all your fault, you interviewed Jane and you hired her knowing fully well that she lives far, so we don't have a choice than to let her live here, and she can't leave her son behind, all the other maids live here as well so what different does it makes?" she said facing her mother

Maria was dumbfounded she didn't know how to counter her, so she just kept quiet

"mom, Jane is not troublesome and there's no need to start going through the stress of hiring another maid, I have to go in I had a long day" Chris said

"me too, come on Jane let's get you settled in" Grace said and led Jane and Christopher inside the mansion

she took them into their room "you can place Chris here while you get your place in the servant quarters ready" Grace said as they got into the room

"oh okay thank you very much, I will go speak with Mr Christopher now, please have someone call for me once Chris wakes up" Jane said as she laid him on the bed

"don't worry it's fine, I can take very good care of my nephew" she said and she blinked playfully

Jane chuckled "please don't allow madam here that" Jane said

"I will try, and oh Jane, about what I was asking you in the car, are you okay, you were so deep in thought" Grace asked her

Jane blushed as she remembered the reason why she was so deep in thought, it was all because of that kiss she shared with Chris, she still can't take the thought of her head, she considered telling it to Grace

but she didn't think that was a good idea, she still doesn't know what to make of it herself, she was still very confused so she decided to talk about something else instead

"well I'm just worried for my son" she said

"if it's my mom you have absolutely nothing to worry about, she was just being concerned as a mother" Grace said

"no it's not about that, I'm just scared that Chris is living in an illusion, Mr Christopher is not is father and look out attached he already is with him and even you, what happens when Mr Christopher gets married and have his own family, what happens then, I don't want him to get hurt" she said tears dripping from her face

Grace felt so much pity for her, she had been so carried away that she didn't think of this possibility at all, she was right, she pulled Jane into a hug and patted her back

"I'm sure everything will be fine, when we get to that bridge we will cross it, I'm sure before my brother will be ready to get married, Chris would have been a little older and he will understand, but for now don't worry about that okay, just focus on the present and giving your son a better life" Grace comforted her

Jane wiped her tears and put herself together, she should just live in the present

"what of Chris's dad?" Grace asked out of the blue

Jane was stunned with that question, it's been a while she heard that question, she felt the need to be vulnerable with Grace and tell her the truth, nobody knows about what happened to her except Mrs Whitney but she was somewhat scared, she didn't know how to answer her

"it's okay if you don't want to talk about it you seem quite uncomfortable talking about it" Grace said

"he's dead" Jane said after glancing at Chris and making sure he was still asleep
