Megan's heart started pounding against her chest, and her face paled.
"You... don't... know Kate?" She stammered and her face became fear-stricken. A lot of things went through her mind, she was well aware of how Chad spent a lot of time with Kate reading and talking about books now he does not remember her.
"I don't know anyone called Kate," he came closer, "or do you?"
Shivers ran down Megan's spine as Chad stared at her intently, his eyes were emotionless, and his face was as stony as a statue.
Megan then realized that they did not matter to the royal family, they were as good as slaves to the royal family--all of them.
"She was my friend," Megan said with a dry voice, all her hopes had turned into smothering pieces, if prince Chas could not remember who Kate was how was he going to help them? Who was going to help them? Was Prince Chad bluffing?
"What happened to her?" Chad asked with his face just a few inches away from Megan's.
"I don't know." Megan had to be courageous she did not want Prince Chad to know that she was aware of Kate's Murder. "If you excuse me your highness I'd like to resume my duties."
Chad removed his gaze from her and gestured his hand in the air.
"You can go, you are excused." She stood up and bowed and she was about to leave he said. "If there is any problem or anything I can help you with, I will gladly be of help."
She gulped and nodded. She went out of the library and ran to the servant quarters. She entered Jennifer and Anita's room, and fortunately for her, they were both there.
"Jennifer, Anita, we have to get out of here as soon as possible!" She said breathing heavily and Anita came closer to her to calm her down.
"How was the talk with Chad?" Jennifer asked.
"We have to get out of here," Megan replied still breathing heavily.
"Calm down, Megan, tell us everything that happened," Anita said calmly, staring at Megan.
"Prince Chad I guess he has a hand in this," Megan took in a deep breath. "No one is going to help us."
"Tell us why you say so," Jennifer and Anita said in unison and Megan told them everything.
"Hmm, I think he is lying because there is no way he doesn't remember her," Anita sighed and placed her hands on her head. "What is happening?"
"I can't believe that prince Chad will say something like that," Jennifer said shaking her head. "Wasn't he close to her and spent some reasonable time with her? Then why is he acting like he doesn't know her again?"
Megan's hands balled into fists, "because he is a liar and he has a role to play in Kate's death, who knows he might even be worse than his brother.
"And now he knows that you know about Kate's death and trusts me he is going to act soon," Anita said with her eyes as large as wide saucers. "We have to leave this castle immediately."
"Not immediately, we escape from this castle not now but later," Megan suggested.
"Why? Aren't our lives in danger?" Jennifer and Anita asked in unison.
"Your lives aren't in danger, only mine. He doesn't know that both of you know something," Megan sighed. "And if Chad is part of all this that means he knows that I am aware of everything so he will be expecting me to make a move, maybe to escape, but I won't. We will leave when no one expects it!"
Jennifer and Anita stared at each other in amazement, they realized how smart Megan was, without Megan's smartness they should not have come this far.
...
Calvin was sitting at his office, he was tapping his fingers on his desk thinking of what to do with the rest of his day. He had not been with to the castle for some days now, he was trying everything to avoid an encounter with his brother.
Then he remembered Mildred the hot waitress in the bar and then some of the intimacy he had with that night rephrased through his mind.
He grinned and licked his lips.
"I guess I will be having some fun this night." He said to himself, chuckling.
He stood up from his seat and went to his company garage. He entered one of his cars and drove off to the bar.
He entered the bar and just as usual it was noisy and it had the stench of cigarettes and alcohol. He held his hat, which was a disguise so that no one would know who he was.
He walked slowly to the counter and when he got there he pulled a bar stool and sat on it.
"What do you like to drink, sir?" A masculine voice asked politely. Calvin raised his head and he saw a young man probably in his early 20s cleaning a glass cup--It was not Mildred.
"I do not want to drink anything, I want to see Mildred," Calvin stated his reason why he was there.
Calvin was quite surprised that he found a liking in Mildred, he barely knew her, and he was stooping so low just to come and see her.
"You mean the American lady?" The bartender asked still cleaning a cup with a napkin. "She's dead."
Calvin became shocked and confused but he maintained his cool, he was very good at maintaining his calmness in surprising situations like this.
"I see," he muttered. "What happened to her?"
"She was murdered outside her apartment some days ago," the bartender said shaking his head. "So unfortunate, she was such a good woman."
"Give me more details," Calvin said with a dry voice and the bartender stopped cleaning the glass cup and focused his attention on Calvin.
"I've said everything I know and what are you? Are you a detective? Cause you don't look like one." The bartender said mockingly.
Calvin stood up from the stool and grabbed the bartender by his collar, slamming him on the counter. The glass cup that the bartender was holding fell to the floor shattering into pieces.
"I'm not in a very good mood, I just recently met this Mildred and I have a liking for her...her murder is not acceptable," Calvin whispered into the bartender's ear, pressing his head on the counter. "So I want you to give me a reasonable reply to every question I ask, do you understand?"
"Yes, I understand, sir." The bartender said with his voice muffled. Calvin released his grip on him and the bartender started coughing.
"What's up with you, man?" The bartender asked coughing.
"Start talking," Calvin said tersely.
"Her neighbour saw her lifeless body covered in blood at her doorstep in the early of the day, she called the ambulance and then they confirmed that she was dead." The bartender told Calvin.
'That means she was murdered when she came back from work the previous night and I am sure her murderers did not kill her in front of her apartment but killed her somewhere else and dumped her body on her doorstep,' Calvin thought to himself. 'Her murderers were surely professionals.'
Calvin turned around and saw a man in a hoodie staring at him suspiciously, Calvin realized that he was being followed.
He tucked his hands into his pocket and brought some dollar notes. He dropped it on the counter.
"That's for the glass cup." He said and turned to leave. "I'll be taking my leave now."
Calvin went out of the bar and entered his car which was parked in the parking lot in front of the bar, and he drove off.
As he was driving a lot of things went through his mind, he knew that he was the reason why Mildred was murdered, and he knew that the person that did it was watching him.
It had to be someone who knew him.
He pinched his nose, he looked at his phone he was tempted to call his brother to help him out but he knew the type of person Chad was and decided not to call him.
Calvin was in great distress and deep thought, he needed someone to talk to, he did not know why Mildred's murder was making him feel this worried.
He remembered that he had Laura, he quite had feelings for Laura and she was the only person he felt this much for and he knew that she loved him so much and could do anything just to keep him.
"Laura." He muttered and immediately turned his car around driving to her house at the speed of light.
Laura was lying on her bed in her room when a servant knocked on her door.
"Go away." She sniffed and used a pillow to cover her face.
"You have a special visitor, ma'am." The servant told her opening the door a little. Laura wondered who that special visitor was.
She got up from her bed lazily, she wanted to go and see who the special visitor was. She was about to leave her room but then she realized that she was in very skimpy shorts and a tank top, she decided to put on decent clothing, she wore a gown that rested on her knee and she applied a little make-up on her face.
When she came to the living room she saw Calvin standing like a statue in the centre of the living room. She quickly hid, he was the last person she expected to come and visit her and she thought he had broken up with her, so seeing him in her living room felt unreal to her.
"You can come out, I already know that you are there," Calvin told her and Laura was surprised that he knew she was hiding behind the wall even though she was discreet.
She came out slowly and walked towards him. He turned to her and she immediately fixed her gaze on the floor.
"How are you?" He asked her and she gritted her teeth out of anger, she was still angry with him for all he had done to her, she was not fine and he knew it.
"I am fine." She replied slowly not exhibiting her anger. "How are you?"
"I am not okay, I have been in my office for two days working." He lied to her and she hissed.
"Why do you like lying, Calvin?" She muttered and Calvin raised his eyebrow.
"I am not lying for the past two days now I have been in my office signing papers and doing a lot of boring stuff." He came closer to her and she cringed. "And I decided to come to see you, I want to spend a good time with you, my love."
Everywhere became silent and Laura clenched her hands into fists.
"You fucking liar," Laura shouted and Calvin grinned waiting patiently for her to say what he wanted to hear. "You are a blatant liar Calvin! I know that you went to a bar to meet a woman who you had sex with in her room some days ago..." Laura paused realizing that she just revealed herself. She tried to run but Calvin grabbed her arms and pulled her to him.
"Why did you kill Mildred, Laura?"
