Chad straightened himself and in mere seconds his facial expression changed from a happy one to an angry one.
"What I want to ask you Amelia is, why are you lying to me? You think I wouldn't know?"
Amelia's eyes shone and her heart began pounding against her chest, for she was keeping a lot of things away from him.
Chad glared at her and she lowered her head.
"You came here to see me because you missed me," he narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips into a thin line.
She exhaled and glared at him.
"I can never miss you, not even in a million years." She pouted and he chuckled.
"You're terrible at lying, Amelia," he shook his head slowly. "I won't let you see my room."
Her eyes shone, she was surprised that he knew she wanted to see his room.
"Uhm...uhm, how did you know that I want to do that?" She asked and he smirked.
"I know everything, Amelia, you're an open book, I can easily read through you." He came closer to her and with a grin plastered on his face, he said, "And I'm sure you know the reason I won't let you see my room, Amelia."
She chewed her cheeks and seeing Chad grinning made her quite annoyed, but even if Chad was annoying, arrogant and frustrating she still found something sweet about him--just a spec of sweetness in him.
"We'll be leaving by 2," he told her and stared at him confused, she had forgotten that Chad asked her to go on a date with him.
"To where?"
"On a date, Amelia." He winked at her and she frowned.
"I'll never go on a..." Chad walked away while she was still speaking. "Chad!" She shouted, but he did not answer her. He waved at her nonchalantly.
With his back facing her he said, "See you by 2, Amelia."
Amelia bit her lips, she was very angry, he just walked out on her, he was too arrogant for her liking. She checked the time and it was thirty minutes to two, how was she going to prepare in just thirty minutes? She placed her hands on her hips and bit her lips.
She let out a sigh and said, "One day I'm going to kill you...one day, Chad.
She walked back to the guest quarters, she made sure that she took her time to return to the guest room. She was not going to care about how long she was going to take to prepare herself, she did not want to go at first, so she was going to take all the time in the world to get dressed, wear her makeup and do all other necessary things.
She paced around the guest room thinking of what she would wear, she wanted to look her best, and she only consented to do on a date with him because he was the only sponsor in her business, and if she did anything that would make him angry, she might lose him as a sponsor.
She sighed.
A part of her agreed to go on a date with him because she wanted to be with him, and she hated that part of her.
The door of the guest room opened and a lot of maids stepped into the room. Amelia was confused about why they were all there.
One of them stepped out and bowed. "We are here to help you with whatever you want, ma'am. You're special in the eyes of his highness, so we want you to look your best, ma'am."
Amelia was very glad that they were all here, it would make things easier for her, she knew that this was Chad's order, and she accepted that even though Chad could annoying and arrogant sometimes, there was this nice part of him that she admired, he had helped her a lot, and she suspected that he had an ulterior motive, so she was very cautious of him.
.....
Chad wore black tuxedos, he had his hair well combed and he applied some makeup on his face. He put on a black hat and wore a black Dreams shoe--a shoe produced by Amelia's brand.
His attendant came into the dressing room and bowed.
"It's 2 o'clock sir, and the car is ready," Russell said and Chad grinned.
"Finally!" He exclaimed. "Let's go." He beckoned Russell to follow him as he walked out of the dressing room majestically.
On his way to the royal garage, he met his sister, Princess Tiana on the way, she was coming to see him.
"Brother," she called, smiling and Chad pulled her into a hug. "I missed you so much."
"I don't miss you, Amanda," Chad said and she giggled.
"Dense as ever, the only big brother in the world that doesn't miss his little sister." Amanda said and Chad rolled his eyes.
"I have to go, Amanda, I have an important meeting to attend," Chad broke the hug, but Amanda did not let him walk away.
"Just stay a little while brother, let's talk, I have a lot of things we can talk about," she flashed a smile, hoping that Chad would stay for a little while. Chad pinched his nose and let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry, Amanda, but I have to go," he kissed her forehead. "Maybe next time, dear."
She watched him walk away after turning down her offer.
"It's all about her, right? It's all about that girl called Amelia?" She shouted and Chad half turned for a brief moment while walking, and his eyes met with hers. His cold gaze which could make anyone shiver did not make Amanda flinch a bit. He turned around and continued walking without giving his sister a reply. She bit her lips out of frustration.
Chad walked to the royal garage with a reasonable number of bodyguards on black tuxedos and sun shades following him behind. His strides were precise and majestic, his face as stony as the Statue of Liberty and his glare as cold as the North Pole. At the sight of him all the servants he passed by bowed, and showed a great deal of honour to him.
When Chad arrived at the garage he picked one of his best cars a glittering white Maybach car. He leaned on the car waiting for Amelia who had not yet shown up.
He checked the time on his pure gold Rolex wristwatch and it was past two and Amelia was not still here.
He let out a sigh, he knew that she was going to come late after all to annoy and frustrate him.
While he was thinking of how he could make her obey him next time, Amelia showed up in a breathtaking black gown which had beautiful floral designs, she was with some maids and there was this 'I dare you' grin on her face.
Chad's jaw nearly dropped to the floor when he saw Amelia, and for a moment he was speechless. She was so beautiful and she looked so good--appetizing, delicious and breathtaking--that he forgot what he wanted to say.
He took in a deep breath, and his eyes which held a little emotion some while ago became as lifeless as the Eiffel Tower.
"I said we were leaving by two, and now is past two," he checked the time on his watch again. "To be precise, 2:10 p.m. You're late."
"I'm sorry, your highness." She apologised and Chad became surprised, he did not expect her to apologise, he expected her to at least protest about him finding faults in her.
'Why was she being this respectful?' He thought it himself.
"Don't let it happen again next time," He warned and she bowed.
"It won't happen again, your highness." Chad felt cringe at the way she was acting, she was not this obedient unless he acted scary and he was not even acting scary.
An impish grin slowly crept to his lips, he knew that she was just pretending and he was going to play along, this was one of the things that made him happy, to play other people's games.
He bowed as he opened the car door for her and she was surprised that he did that but she did not show it.
She entered the car and Chad shut the door. Chad entered the car, and he noticed that all this while Amelia was avoiding eye contact with him, this made his grin wider.
"You look so breathtaking, Amelia," he began, "Even Mother Nature is jealous of the way you look. Your face is as beautiful as a rose flower, your skin glitters like gold, and you smell of lovely flowers."
Amelia pouted, even though she knew that this was just one of his many acts, it made her have butterflies in her stomach, and at the same time, it felt so weird for her to hear someone like Prince Chad say something like this.
"Thank you, your highness." She said and Prince Chad chuckled. His driver entered the car and pulled it out of the garage, a convoy followed their car, and Chad wanted to make sure that Amelia was safe as they went out.
"You're smiles are brighter than the sun and your beauty is breathtaking, anytime I see you my heart beats faster than it should, my throat becomes dry and my eyes dance with joy, because alas! They have seen something very beautiful," he took his hands into hers changed his accent and made his voice deeper. "What can be compared to your beauty on this planet Earth? Or what can be compared to your lovely smiles? What can be compared to you, Amelia?"
Amelia became fed up with what he was doing, her knowing that he was just bluffing made her more annoyed. Why was he so overdramatic and romantic? No matter how much she tried to avoid getting annoyed by him, he still tried to find a new way to annoy and frustrate her.
"Amelia..."
"It's enough Chad!" She raised her voice. "I'm fed up with all of this Chad."
Chad started laughing and she became relieved that he was still the same.
"Really? I thought you were enjoying it?" He asked smirking and she shut her eyes.
"I know that all you said it's not true."
"I meant some of the things I said," He told her and she coughed.
"Which of them did you mean?" She asked him, she was curious about it, she wanted to know.
"Why should I tell you?" He rolled his eyes.
"Please," she begged and he pinched his nose.
"The part where I said you're beautiful." Amelia noticed how nervous he was, she could not believe that someone as mighty as he was was quite nervous. She giggled and he glared at her.
The rest of the ride was peaceful, they talked lightly and surprisingly they did not argue. Amelia was surprised that she could have a conversation this long with him.
They arrived at The Jeans restaurant, a five-star rated restaurant and one of the most expensive and popular restaurants in KU.
Chad's bodyguards surrounded the car Chad and Amelia were in. People started surrounding their car, and Chad's bodyguard prevented them from coming any closer.
Chad brought out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up, Amelia frowned, she disliked men who smoke. Chad noticed how uncomfortable she was.
"You don't like the smell of cigarettes?" He said with smoke coming out from his mouth and nose.
"I don't care." She muttered and Chad chuckled. Amelia did not know why she was angry with him for smoking a cigarette, and like smoke every feeling she had for him vanished.
The car door opened and Chad stepped out and Amelia followed him, Chad's cigarette was still in his mouth and he used his hand to hold it, she was sick of the whole thing.
They walked into the restaurant, and because of so many people pressing on them, it was difficult for them to arrive at their table.
The Jeans restaurant was located in the heart of Durban, it was a three-storey building constructed with glass, and it had a big parking lot and it had a fountain with a glass sculpture in the middle of the parking lot.
It was only the well-to-do people that could afford a meal in the jeans, its prestige and luxury were on an international level.
Chad picked up the golden card which was situated on the table.
"As usual they have nice meals here," he said and then he looked at Amelia. "What do you want?"
"Nothing," she told him plainly and he dropped the card.
He removed the cigarette from his mouth and dropped it on the table, he was not allowed to smoke here but since he was no ordinary person so that rule did not apply to him.
"See it as a great honour to be on a date with me, you should be happy," he told her and she rolled his eyes. He was as arrogant as ever.
"Excuse me, I came here not because of you but because I wanted to," she hissed and he glared at her.
"It was not of your own will that you came but of mine, you had no choice, it wasn't an offer but an order." He growled and she shut her eyes and folded her hands around her chest. Chad realized that they were in public and everyone was watching them, so arguing with her would not be the best thing to do right now. "You know that we are in the public and everyone is watching us so you better behave yourself."
Amelia became angrier with him, he had no right to tell her to behave, she was not a wild animal! She folded her fist under the table and felt the urge to punch him in the face but then she remembered that everyone's eyes were on them so it would not be the best idea to do something rash.
She let out a sigh and tried to become less angry. She watched him as he pulled out another cigar, and gestured his attendant to light it up for him. She became irritated, he was smoking in a restaurant and it was very unhygienic to do so. The most annoying part of it was that there was a big poster at the entrance with No smoking, written on it, and yet he was smoking.
"Why are you smoking in a restaurant? Who does that?" She shook her head slowly with her hand on her forehead.
"I'm so disappointed."
He started laughing and her irritation grew.
"And do you think I care about everything you just said?" He leaned forward. "Or have you forgotten what I am?"
"You being a prince doesn't mean that you disobey the rules and endanger other people's health by 'smoking,'" she narrowed her eyes as she emphasised 'smoking.'
"I am more than a prince, Amelia." He said chuckling.
"What's funny that you are laughing this way?" She glared at him, and it annoyed every inch of her seeing him nonchalant and laughing over an important issue.
"Me laughing doesn't mean something is funny, I laugh sometimes because I want to," he pinched his nose. "Why do you hate people that smoke this much?"
He removed the cigar from his mouth and gave it to his attendant to trash it.
"I don't hate people for what they do," she told him and he gave her a questioning look.
"I could see the disgust in your face when you saw me pull out a cigar for the first time," he chuckled removed his hat and dropped it on the table. "I know that you hate me more seeing me smoke."
"Yes, I dislike people who smoke, drink too much alcohol and take drugs, is there a problem with that?" She let out and Chad became more interested, he wanted to know why she disliked people who smoke, drink, and take drugs.
"The reason?"
"I don't have any reason." She told him plainly and he gave her a questioning look again.
"Stop lying to me, Amelia, there is always a reason. Humans can't just wake up one day and dislike something without a reason, there must be a reason." He peered at her and she tried all she could not to remember a certain point of her life. Her eyes met with, Chad's cold blue eyes, "there is always a reason, Amelia." He repeated and she started away.
She fixed her eyes on the table and she started sweating as some painful memory crept into her thoughts, Chad noticed how uncomfortable she had become and he had to do something about it, he did not just bring her out here to make her feel bad.
"Shit," he cursed under his breath and took in a deep breath. "What inspired you to start up a brand?"
Amelia looked at him and he winked at her and gave her a warm smile.
"I want to know, what inspired you, Amelia," he added and she became less uncomfortable.
"It was my dream since I was little to own a brand that made a lot of things. I remember watching every fashion show, like the red carpet, Met Gala and so on. I was so intrigued seeing top models and artists like Celine Dion and Jane appear on Tv with nice clothes, and I would normally say to myself, 'Don't worry, Amelia someday you'll make clothes that celebrities will wear.'" Amelia giggled, and Chad liked how determined she had been been been since she was little.
"I now understand why your brand name is Dreams, and why your brand's tagline is; making your dreams come true. It all makes sense now." He said and chuckled lightly. He took her hands into his, and her smallish slender hands fit so well in his. She shuddered from his touch.
"Do you realise that your dreams have finally come true?" He showed her his shoes and she could not believe that he wore a shoe made by her brand on their date. "A popular celebrity is wearing your brand's product, not only that..." He brought out his phone and showed it to her. "Your brand is the top in Fashion Week in Paris."
"Oh my gosh!" She exclaimed with her hands covering her mouth. "I can't believe this, this is so unbelievable, how is this possible?" This was more than a dream come true for Amelia, her brand was at the top in Paris, if someone told her some months ago that this would happen she would have doubted the person with her life. All this was possible because of Chad, it was because of his influence that her brand was becoming this popular. It dawned on her that Chad might be helping her for some ulterior motives, and it made her sad, she wanted to know why he was helping her like this, it was so unreal and surprising that someone of his calibre was helping her achieve her dreams, she was just a commoner, she did not come from a rich family, she didn't have a fancy or wealthy background, she was black and she was not popular, then why would he help someone like her?
"This is just the beginning, Amelia, we have to make your brand the top in New York, London and Durban too," he grinned and leaned forward. "We have to make it the top in the world, we have to beat other brands, and I have the perfect idea of how we are going to do it."
She lowered her head and her facial expression changed from a happy one to a sad one, Chad wondered what was making her feel this sad, she was supposed to be happy and celebrating that her brand was finally getting the recognition that she wanted it to have.
He cupped her chin into his hands and muttered, "What's wrong, Amelia?"
Amelia stared at him, and her eyes met with his piercing blue eyes, she could not decipher his emotions right now, but she could see a slight concern in his eyes.
"Why are you helping me this much, Chad? Are you doing all of this for something in return?" Tears threatened to fall from her eyes, "If you are doing this for something in return, I have nothing to give, I only have myself to give out."
"Amelia," he breathed. "I don't need anything in return, and I am not doing all of this for something in return, I am doing this because I want to, and trust me, Amelia, I hardly tell lies."
"How can I believe you, Chad? How am I sure that you're not lying?" She asked him.
"Time will tell, Amelia, I can not prove that I am being honest now, but time will." He told her and she became relieved that he did not want something in return for helping her, she was not certain whether he was lying or not, but since she had met Chad, he had been very honest most of the time, so she was going to trust him a little.
"Amelia," he called with his voice barely above a whisper. She looked at him and she saw that he was slightly nervous. He took in a deep breath and raked his hair with his hands.
He chuckled and asserted, "I know that I am horrible, but can we be friends?"
