“I’ve lived in my van from time to time, but it’s really not as bad as it seems. It’s actually prettynice. I had an apartment, but in the last years, I’ve been living in a small room I rent from a wonderful old lady who used to know my dad. I’ve been saving my money, that’s all. And yeah, I drive.”

“Saving your money for what?”

Davinder smiled and for a moment, was his old self again. “Yeah…”

“Uncle Dav?” Fay stood at the entrance of the small courtyard. “Honestly, people are starting to think it’s weird you’re not in there.”

“Ten years,” Davinder said under his breath, “and I can’t even get five minutes alone with you.”

“It’s my fault. I should have read that letter before.” I stepped back.

“You got a card or something?” He was nervous again. “I read all your books, you know.”

“Really?” I knew I was blushing and hoped he wouldn’t see it. His opinion of my work was the most important.
