Rumi's lesson plans were purely torturous, she wasn't exactly a nuturing teacher and she kept pushing Toshiro to push his limits on his own by having him exert a certain amount of reiatsu constantly. It was so hard that Toshiro kept losing track of it and when he did, Rumi would wake up from her nap and pinched his cheeks.
When Toshiro complained, she would also justify her behavior with her reasoning being "if he continue the exercise, even if he kept failing, he would still get the hang of reiatsu more or less".
Toshiro almost even regretted ever agreeing to the deal even if he could feel that he was in more control of his reiatsu in the three days Rumi "trained " him.
Toshiro sighed as he glanced at Rumi who was leaning against a tree, preparing to sleep. She said that since it was already afternoon, they should take a break for an afternoon nap, even though they started training barely an hour ago. Toshiro couldn't understand how a supposed to be genius of the Shinigami school be so lazy.
"What's your obsession with afternoon nap anyway? You woke up like an hour ago." Toshiro asked.
"Huh, it was for your own good, Shiro chan!" Rumi defended, "I've heard that children especially under the age of nine should sleep in the afternoon to grow."
Toshiro's eyebrows twitched, "I'm older than nine!"
"Really?" Rumi let out a playful smile and said in a teasing voice, "You don't even look seven, Shiro chan!"
"You..."
"I think you'd benefit more from an afternoon nap. Sure you don't want it?" Rumi teased.
"...Fine," Toshiro said, turning his head to look away from Rumi.
Rumi laughed at Toshiro looking like a tsundere. "You're so cute Shiro chan haha."
"Why're you obsessed with calling me Shiro chan?" Toshiro asked.
"Because you have white hair and your name is Toshiro, I think Shiro chan perfectly fits you!" Rumi answered.
"Heh, your hair is white too, by that logic, I should also call you Shiro sensei." Toshiro said.
"Ouch, you're using my worda against me. But, I have silver hair, Shiro chan!" Rumi complained. She obviously had silver hair, sure, it was similar to Toshiro's hair but it wasn't white.
"Same difference, Shiro sensei." Toshiro said.
"Damn, you sure won't let go of the nickname, huh?" Rumi sighed.
"Nope," Toshiro replied.
"Fine, just call me Shiro sensei then." Rumi said, "At least I'm your sensei heh. Do you know what that means?"
"Nope, Shiro sensei." Toshiro rolled his eyes.
"Well, I get to boss you around, Shiro chan." Rumi said, "Now go to sleep like a good kid."
"I'm telling you stop treating me like a six year old." Toshiro said, annoyed.
But as Rumi kept telling him children who don't sleep in the afternoon wouldn't grow, Toshiro started to feel a bit worried and went to sleep. After all, Toshiro wanted to grow up already.
-------------
The training only went on for three and a half days as Rumi was supposed to go back to the academy once the holidays were over. While Rumi finished packing up, Toshiro came by and watched her pack up with his arms crossed.
"Shiro sensei, you're going back already?"
"Yep, we only got one week holiday so gotta go back to the academy." Rumi replied as she tried to stuff her favorite blanket back into the bag.
"I see," Toshiro said and Rumi couldn't help but notice he sounded a little sad.
"Hey, don't be sad. I'll come and visit again." Rumi patted Toshiro's head and said.
"I didn't tell you to come and visit!" Toshiro shouted, his words were quite opposite of what he was feeling, which Rumi kind of figured out so she laughed and messed up his hair.
"Don't say the words you don't mean, Shiro chan. It's bad for little kids to lie."
"Should you be saying that? You don't seem like an honest person yourself." Toshiro said, unimpressed.
"Well, I'm a grown-up and you aren't." Rumi shrugged.
"What kind of logic is that?" Toshiro huffed. "Anyways, Momo said you guys should leave soon. She's already outside waiting."
"Okay," Rumi said as she finished up packing. After that, she joined Momo and waved to Toshiro.
"Bye, Shiro chan. I'll visit you again, okay?"
"I said it's fine even if you don't come." Toshiro replied, although his eyes lit up when Rumi said she would come visit again.
Rumi chuckled, Toshiro was just being a Tsundere kid and it was kind of amusing for her. She just hoped the kid would end up in the academy soon enough.
But since she did train Toshiro with his reiatsu a bit to help him control it better, she got the Cold Resistance reward from the System. Whatever Toshiro chose from here, it wasn't really her business anymore.
On their way back, Momo laughed and teased about Rumi and Toshiro.
"It seems that Shiro chan took a liking to you." Momo said.
"Well, that's to be expected. Who wouldn't like my awesome self?!" Rumi said with a smug look. She probably gave of narcissistic vibes but Rumi didn't care much about it. After all, she was the kind of person who praises herself for a sleep ritual everytime she sleeps.
Momo was at a loss for words for a while and when she came back to it, she said, "I'm glad you and Shiro chan got along so well. I was really worried about Shiro chan when I left for the academy and that he wouldn't find any friends.."
"I'm more like a mentor to him but sure, I guess you can say we've got quite close in a week." Rumi replied.
"Thank you, Fujiwara san." Momo said.
"Huh? It's nothing at all. I did it because I thought it could be fun." Rumi replied, "That said, what're your plans when you get back to the academy?"
"Well, I was thinking I would train harder and try to get into Captain Aizen's Squad Five." Momo replied.
"Oh, that sounds like you, I guess."
"What about you, Fujiwara san?"
"Hmm...Ounabara sensei said he was putting me in a more advanced course and have me focus on Hakuda, then cram theories. I'm telling you, I feel like he's rushing me to get out of the academy!"
"Wait, Fujiwara san, you're graduating early?!" Momo exclaimed, then she remembered Rumi achieving her Shikai already. It wasn't strange at all for someone who already got Shikai to graduate early so Momo changed her question, "That's good. Have you thought of which squad you want to join after graduating?"
"Nope, not yet." Rumi sighed, "I mean it's not like I'd graduate in a month. I can take my time to think, right?"
"I..I guess," Momo replied. "But do you really have no rough ideas? like what kind of squad do you want to join?"
"Hmm..." Rumi thought for a while, then her eyes lit up as she said, "Oh, I got it! I want to join a squad where I can slack off and take as many naps as I want to take."
"There's no squad like that, I think.." Momo said.
"Really?!" Rumi gasped, "Then, you're telling me I can't possibly slack off in Gotei 13?"
"I..I don't think you can, Fujiwara san.." Momo said.
"Huh, why would I even try to graduate early then? when I could perfectly skip classes and live my best life at the academy." Rumi sighed.
"Please don't do that..." Momo said with a sigh, "You'll take more years of Ounabara sensei's life."
"Hinamori, whose side are you on?!" Rumi gasped and complained.
Momo couldn't understand why Rumi wasn't taking this whole deal seriously. Was that a trait of geniuses? She even doubted a little.
